My PS3's messing up

I got a PS3 the other day and now it's not letting me play any of my games. I've tried cleaning the discs but it hasn't worked. Could anyone help me out please? Could it be that an update is needed?

If its a brand new PS3 and its giving you problems, Id suggest going back to the store you bought it from and exchanging it for a new one. The system should still fall within most company's 30 day return policy
