N.W.A. Straight Outta Compton

Dude has multiple platinum albums. Maybe teenagers don't know his music but I don't know if teenagers are interested in this movie anyway.

The kids at the boys home I work at are crazy hyped for this movie even though they won't get to see it.

Kids nowadays I think, well the ones that aren't all that conscious of 90s hip hop, just see them as badass gangsters and seeing old school dudes in their first biopic. I grew up listening to this my first couple years of high school. I'm old as ****, but whatever.

This movie looks very interesting to me. I'm not a hip hop fan, but this movie just looks damn good from what I see and I'm really impressed by the actor playing a young Ice Cube.

EDIT: Oh I just looked at the review, it's his son. That makes sense.

I actually can't wait to see this. I wonder how the younger crowd will react to this movie though. "The guy from Are we There Yet? used to be like this??"

They'll be too young to have even seen are we there yet:oldrazz:

They're doing a really bad job of promoting this. I didn't even know it was cast yet, let alone filmed.

I kind of figured there would be some things not to be mentioned. In John Campea's review, he didn't like that they didn't mention the [BLACKOUT]Dee Barnes[/BLACKOUT] incident.

Agreed, I'm not expecting a biopic that Dre and Cube oversaw to be overtly critical or introspective, especially of their own past actions within NWA's crazy history.

That said, I'm bummed said incident was left out. Here's hoping the movie has some funny moments, though. I still laugh at the intervals between songs in *****z 4 Life.

Hilarious.

Yeah that's kinda the thing about making a biopic that is produced by the subject. I feel like they'll never want to make themselves look bad.

Of course they won't. You'd have to really have made peace with that **** if you did.

Never in my wildest dream did I think a movie about any rap artist would have this much effort put into it

now I need a movie about the Jay vs Nas and I'm good

I'm a 90's rap kid :woot:

I would still love a Social Network/Quiz Show-esque movie about the whole Bad Boy/Death Row, East/West, 2Pac/Biggie feud.

That would be incredible.

Jay vs Nas was cool an interesting but I don't think it's that cinematic especially compared to 2Pac vs Biggie

Here's a clip from the film:

I honestly can't wait for this, just as a nostalgia trip :woot:

Having come up in the late 80's/early 90s in Long Beach, CA, and having some ties to a few individuals involved (mostly secondary, I'll admit), it'll be fun to see certain moments recreated, knowing what actually happened and/or what happened between those moments. This is totally playing to my emotions and I have zero problem with that. The music alone is like a time-machine...

DIRECTOR F. GARY GRAY DID NOT ADDRESS DRE'S ALLEGED ASSAULT ON EX-GIRLFRIEND
By Katie Hasty @TheKatieHasty | FRIDAY, AUG 7, 2015 3:48 PM

Some critics have started calling out forthcoming N.W.A. biopic "Straight Outta Compton" for omitting Dr. Dre's assault of MTV personality Dee Barnes in 1991.

During a Q&A with the "Compton" talent at a screening in New York this week, director F. Gary Gray said that the film didn't have time to address "side stories," according to Ebony magazine.

“We had to focus on the story that was pertinent to our main characters,” Gray responded. “The original editor’s cut was three hours and 30 minutes long, so we couldn’t get everything in the movie. We had to make sure we served the narrative. The narrative was about N.W.A. It wasn’t about side stories... [Ice] Cube always said it: 'You can make five different N.W.A. movies.' We made the one we wanted to make.”

The crime occurred during a time of high visibility for the group, and intersected with a big promotional moment for Ice Cube, who had just exited N.W.A. and began a very public feud with the crew. You can read more about the details surrounding the assault on Barnes' here.

Dr. Dre plead no contest to the Barnes assault in 1992; he was fined, sentenced to community service and put on probation. Dre -- real name Andre Young -- also plead guilty to battery of a police officer that same year. In 2013, singer and Dre's ex-girlfriend Michel'le alleged the producer/rapper used to beat her when they were dating in the '90s, though she never brought any legal action against him.

Nah they just didnt want to remind people that the guy who is attached to those headphones theyre wearing/a board member at Apple has a history of domestic violence

On a lighter note: I hear Dre's new album is nice. Will be listening to it later tonight

Glad to see some positive reviews coming out for this. so far it sounds like it's ALOT better than the Biggie movie was.

N.W.A Music and the cast and crew of #StraightOuttaCompton are live on YouTube tomorrow at 1:30pm PT.
