This movie actually made me tear up... Not from the bad singing, lol... I wonder how many out there have caught this indian character based driven film.

"Everyday after was a gift from God"

Haven't seen it. How is Kal Penn's performance?

I saw it a while ago. It's a great film. I read the novel first and it stayed pretty true to it most of the time. If you like the movie, you should read the novel because it goes more in detail that the movie didn't get into. Kal Penn was great. He has a great range. He can go from Kumar in the White Castle movie to Gogol in Namesake.

I have heard some amazing things about this movie/story. I am reading the book right now and when I finish I definitely want to check out this movie. Kal Pen is always good, but it's gonna be weird seeing him from Kumar to this role.

The movie was good, Penn indeed amazed me with his dramatic performance. Before this movie I had thought he could play only dumb idiots in crappy comedy flicks.

I watched it awhile ago, amazing movie. I thought the same thing cinemaman, never saw him do a serios type role, but here he was really good

I wasn't a fan of this film, I'm sad to say. I know a lot of people praised the actors but I didn't find any of them to be particularly outstanding. However, I will admit that I may have been biased because I watched the film with my girlfriend and she loved it, and this was right after I made her watch Batman Begins, which she totally tore apart. I'll have to give The Namesake another try when I'm not thoroughly pissed off and maybe I'll like it better.

I will say this... that Indian girl that Penn's character gets together with towards the end of the film... HOT. AS. HELL.

Irfahn Kahn and Tabu, who played the parents, were incredible. Great and quite accurate portrayal of desi immigrants adjusting to life in the Western world. Book is more in depth though.
