Namor the Sub-Mariner

Even if they do a Namor solo movie first the uninformed will still say he's an Aquaman rip off. That pisses me off because it's actually the opposite.
But what are we going to do? DC has done a better job of inserting their ripoff character in the public's consciousness throughout the years

I'd prefer Namor be an antagonist initially, anyway. He's so magnificently arrogant.

same can be said about Captain Marvel and Supergirl. My thing is...who cares? Marvel will likely do it better anyway

Whichever one comes out second will be immediately dismissed as ripping the former off.

and that will be made irrelevant if its done with critical acclaim

Honestly I don't think we learnt anything from Quesada that we didn't already know

Marvel have the rights, Univesal have distribution

If Namor had reverted in full I'd argue the bigger story would be did the same happen with Hulk, given he and Namor have similar deals at Universal

Can't wait for Namor. This needs to happen soon

Yup. Which is why I don't understand everyone acting like it's new news.

Guarantee Feige will answer a question about this in like 6 months and a big fuss will be made again

Yup. I'm sure he'll get asked about it during the Doctor Strange press tour

Namor would probably be at his best as an anti-hero fighting for Atlantis. Question is which east coast city do you pit him against? I can't see NY being it, unless you're using him as an antagonist in an Avengers film. If he full on attacks there outside of Avengers in the current MCU, there'd be too much where was spidey? or Jessica, etc.

Though it could work if Namor sees the fallout of IFW are the fault of surface dwellers etc.

I'd love to see the Namor/T'Challa relationship on screen. That would be fire.

Heck, I'de love to see anyone interact with Namor.

It would help show us that Tony isn't THAT arrogant.

XD

Put things in perspective.

Does anyone actually like Namors character? Whenever I see him in a comic I have to resist punching my page/screen.

This is the only reason why I don't see a solo film working too well for him. Perhaps at least introduce him in another film first?

Also, it wouldn't be hard to claim he did find Cap in the ice, but has a deal with Shield that if they don't reveal their existence and stay out of Atlantis, then he wont destroy them.

Not that it matters much at this point.

As for actor, I just looked back at his face and had a funny thought:
He kinda looks like Taylor Lautner
I don't know how his acting skills are, and have no clue if he would be good for the role, I just know he can look arrogant and has the kinda face many guys would like to punch. (I have nothing personal against him, it's just what I've heard. :P )

Namo is.... complicaed.

Yeah Namor is a major prick and he's best served being introduced in someone else's film first. I think given the history and relationship dynamic between Namor a day T'Challa and their positions as monarchs, combined with their personality traits; the character study of the two is just too good and juicy to not explore and yeah, you're right, Tony's arrogance is nothing compared to T'Challa and especially Namor.

As for casting Namor, this is harder than I realised but so far Luke Evans seems to be the only viable candidate for me this far.

I don't know if they'd make Namor as arrogant and *****ey though. We were all expecting Quicksilver to be a major *****e and to enjoy all of his *****ery towards the other Avengers, but he failed on that front. Joss Whedon knows how to write that sort of character (eg Spike), but he didn't give any of that kind of personality to Pietro. Even the Days of Future Past Quicksilver was more arrogant than him.

So maybe they'd neuter Namor in that sense. But I would hope not. But his arrogance is slightly different to Quicksilver's. His is because he is royalty and feels he is superior. Quicksilver is partly to do with impatience, because the world is moving so slow for him and people can't keep up. But Namor is generally more honorable.

I think he should start off as a villain, a bit like the Klingons in the original Star Trek series. But they also were seen in a different light by the time of TNG and were an honorable race. The Federation and the Klingons came to a mutual understanding and became allies. I think a similar model could be followed for Namor.

I don't have anyone particular in mind, but I'd like someone who has sharp, angular features.

Namor's *****ey behaviour should never ever be omitted. It's an essential parr of who he is as a character. However, the writing has to ensure he still has redeemable qualities and a clear reason as to why he's such a dick for audiences to still be able to connect with him.

But it was an essential part of Quicksilver's character as well, and they failed on that front. I was really hoping for a major *****ebag in AOU who would have the audience laughing at his audacity, boorish behaviour and the way he'd speak to everyone else.

^ The thing about those is that they just look Asian. I think you need to get someone who is more of an exotic mix. Maybe a bit Asian, a bit Polynesian, a bit European, etc. It would make Namor look more otherworldly.
