MXM (Master x Master) has officially kicked off beta testing that will run through April 27th. Testers will be able to check out a number of new or improved features including PvE stages, mini-games, PvP battles and much more. I'm in the Closed Beta but as a HOTS player I'm disappointed to see that you'd have to increase several stats for each Master, including Weapon, Skills, and Node. Looks like they borrow the worst elements from LOL into their game, as personally I really hate to have to grind for things like the Nodes. I'd prefer to not have any items as all in a MOBA game.

Master X Master launches June 21; check out the cinematic trailer

Master X Master is launching in North America and Europe on June 21st, NCsoft just announced. The game is a hybrid MOBA-MMO with PvE elements that has charmed our writers in spite of some tone-deaf City of Heroes inclusions earlier this year.

If you haven’t purchased a Founder’s Pack yet, what are you still reading this for!? Packs include tons of great benefits, including Masters, Skins, and Membership time, all at a steep discount. Master X Master’s launch client and name reservations are now available

We are still a few days off from Master X Master’s official launch, but that shouldn’t stop you from preparing for the launch of this hybrid MOBA. NCsoft informed fans that it could go ahead and download the launch client, advising players that they should uninstall any test clients first.




Another preparatory step is to reserve your name, which is totally a thing you can do provided that you’ve purchased one of the more expensive founder’s packs. Players who have bought either the $60 or $100 packs can go ahead and reserve a single name for use when Master X Master goes live. The name reservations will end on June 21st.

Ghost Widow gets a spotlight on her Master x Master incarnation

While very few veteran City of Heroes fans were happy about the inclusion of Statesman in Master x Master for a variety of reasons, the inclusion of Ghost Widow should be loss controversial. Partly because that outrage has already passed, but also partly because it’s Ghost Widow, who is just pretty darn cool.

It’s not Penelope Yin or War Witch or Scirocco, but it’s still one of the game’s cooler characters. “But how does Ghost Widow actually play?” you ask, and that’s actually a very good question! You can find out in the video just below,

but the short version is that she’s a nuker capable of stripping buffs and savagely hurting enemies suffering from other debuffs. It may be a bit unusual to see her on the side of the angels, but it does mean you can bring a bit of that psychic undead fun into your game.

You’re certainly heard of dev community Q&A sessions, but what about dev cosplay Q&A? Master X Master recruited the help of cosplayer Cheezecake to relay community queries now that the game has launched.

Other than the surprise drop of Ghost Widow as a playable character at launch, the team is being tight-lipped about future masters. The devs did say that they are planning to roll out six to eight new heroes every year, and that these will be a mix of original characters and NCsoft franchise cameos.Read more

“Hey, what do you mean by ‘probably’ in the title there, buddy?” you ask, squinting at the computer and staring at the headline above. “What could the latest teaser for Master x Master just past the break possibly be about if not that?” And the answer?

We don’t really know, but the teaser in question makes the bold decision of not mentioning the new character, not showing the new character, not even explaining anything about the new character aside from displaying a resurrection effect probably belonging to the new character. So let’s be real here, it’s probably not a teaser for a particularly good brand of hot sauce. Read more

NCsoft is already sunsetting MOBA Master X Master

NCsoft announced this evening that it will sunset its relatively new MOBA Master X Master, explaining that the game just “wasn’t enough to take on the established juggernauts.”

“There is no easy way to say this, but regretfully, we will be discontinuing our service for MXM, with the final day of the game’s life to be January 31. Deciding to close the game is not a decision we come to lightly, but ultimately it came down to a matter of business—we explored several options, but none of them were sustainable. We truly believe that MXM is special, and offered a lot of new ideas to change up the MOBA genre, but in trying to carve out a niche for itself, we failed to connect with players.”
