WAR is the next big MMO.

The Imperial Guard seem to do just fine in the Strategy game "Dawn of War" against the other races. So I don't see why they couldn't translate them into a Ego-shooter.

And so are the Aliens in the AvP games. But they also seem to manage just fine against Space Marines and Predators. I don't play the Tabletop games so I don't know a lot about them, but I'm sure the Tyranids don't have only hand-to-hand units.

Any Tyranid model that has a shooting weapon worth caring about is way to powerful for a person to control. Also the Marines in AVP are more like the Imperial Guard then they are like the actual Space Marines in 40k. One Space Marines in 40k could easily kill around 10 Imperial Guardsmen before going down himself. The only reason the Imperial Guard really works well in say "Dawn of War" or the Table Top game is the ability to field massive amounts of troops and armored calvary.

That could be easily implemented into a Ego-shooter. In Huxley you can easily have 200 players on the Battlfield, so to balance it you could simply allow the Imperial Guard to have 120 players and Space Marines get only 80.

Huxley also offers you vehicles with strong weaponry and squad transportation. There you have your calvary.

And about Tyranids, if their are too difficult to implement why not simply make them the enemy? You have still lots of other races left.

The numbers for it to be fair between Space Marines and Imperial Guard would have to be more along the lines of 160 IG players and 40 SM players, which would be ridiculous because it would be near impossible to ever get those kinds of numbers together for a game. :down

And how the hell would you implement NPCs into a game that sounds more like Battlefield then a actual MMO.

Thats nice and all but I'm assuming that when two players start out, one being human the other mutant, that they essentially have the same stats as each other, but that kind of setup would be near impossible with 40k as the races vary way to much to make them all start out the same.

A 40k MMO could just have 4 Races and be Awesome, Space Marines, Space Orcs, Chaos Space Marines and The Eldar. They could balance that out quite easily just by specialising each race in one feature ( STR/DEX/INT/ ). Space Marines would obviously be the most well rounded race and easiest to play, similar to Chaos. Orcs Would have more Brute Strength but less intelligence and accuracey, and you could make eldar have the best weapons or something. It could work

Der FUCHTEN? No Skaven? No Lizardmen? WTF gives???!!

Anyways, I agree that a 40K RPG would be great though I prefer if they made all the races available. Not Space Marines/Imperial Guard. That all falls under the Imperium of Man. Rather, it be cooler if you can choose humans and later choose to become either a Guardsman, a Space Marine, a Daemonhunter or Witch Hunter.

And a 40K game without the Tau? No man, I need my fix of Tau blood on da battlefield. 'Ere we go!

Skaven and Lizardmen are likely to be the first expansion race anyways. Mythic couldn't fit all the races in at once though, otherwise the game wouldn't be out until around 2009 due to balancing problems and all that lot.

Ugh...if you ask me, they could do without the Giants and make room for either one of the two aforementioned races. Then again, they might want to pull a "Burning Crusade" by including them in a "Lusteria" expansion, thus ripping us of every cent we have. Capitalism. Gotta love it...

No, it's just the fact that it'd take them multiple more years of work and extra hassle of balancing EIGHT unique races with their own class sets and special skill trees, which NO OTHER MMO has the scale of. I would be glad to buy a 25-30$ expansion if it means they'll get the game out before 2009-10. And giants aren't a playable race, so I have no idea what you're talking about.

they are in warhammer fantasy and from the trailer that nurgle narrates I thought maybe they'd be in the game, maybe under the Dogs of War or something

Wrong game, that's not even for WAR. That's for WHO, which was cancelled over a year ago and picked up by Mythic.

You're a bit behind the times.

Dude there a picture of a Giant standing behind a goblin on the first page of this very thread. I assumed that it meant that Giants were playable in this game

Once again, they could just remove them entirely in favour of Lizards or preferably Skaven...what player are you by the by?

They CAN'T, because the Giants aren't a playable race. They don't have to balance 4 different kinds of giants in relationship to every class in the game, so taking out giants for absolutely no reason because they're NPCs is ridiculous. Even if they took out several NPC races, they'd still have to work at least an extra half year at least for each race in addition.

Just wait until an expansion. It's not that bad, considering you'll probably get the most and best content out of a WAR expansion introducing two new races and a new continent than you'd get with any other MMORPG.

Me too. :(

On a side note all the concept art for the Empire and Chaos is *****in sweet. :o

Yeah. The Marauder looks ****ing awesome and makes me want to not roll a Chosen anymore, though I still will just for the novelty. I also want to play a Bright Wizard or Witch Hunter because they look to be ****in' sweet.

Here's some of the screenies from the Newsletter, for all interested:

RvR (PvP) footage (keep in mind this is early beta and some of these effects and sounds are placeholders, as well as the people playing are inexperienced so there's not much movement going on):

That PVP video makes me want to NOT get this game.

It looked terrrrible. Boring, slow, so on and so forth. Granted it's in beta (alpha?) at that point, but still.

You also have to take in mind that this was played by reporters who didn't get to play any of the PvP beforehand and were generally inexperienced. Even then, there was still some running around. Though, I wouldn't expect alot of bunny-hopping out of this game.. bunny-hopping makes combat look ridiculous and like complete ****. Expect moving around and alot of trying to move around your opponent for positionals and such, or kiting from casters.. but not bunny-hopping.

This is just out of Alpha, most MMOs (I know WoW didn't) don't ever show any videos until halfway through Beta or in open Beta. Give it some time to get some polish. Hell, you should've seen the last pre-Alpha RvR video they released, it was horrible. This is a big improvement, and since this game isn't being released for almost a year, expect some more big improvements. Alot of the **** there is just placeholders and old, reused animations.

It wasn't the graphics or the animations that turned me off, it was the slowness of everything happening.

Oh, and the UI looked horrrrrible IMO.

You can't really judge the UI if you haven't used it. I think the UI looks perfectly admissable. What matters more is if it works well or not, I'd rather have a run-of-the-mill looking UI that's easy to use than one that looks awesome but sucks to use.

The slowness of everything happening? Well, if by that you mean running around, yes, due to inexperience and the fact that the game is freshly out of Alpha... otherwise the characters represented low tier characters with not that many different abilities to pick from. You'll get many, many abilities and flashy stuff as you play the game more.
