Netflix Changing Pricing Structure

That's what's keeping my family from going streaming.

We were going to try blockbuster's free month, but I'm thinking we should try Prime's first. But that means buying a new blu-ray player, which is fine if I can find a deal. I'll just give my current player to my mom.

The one I bought was $98. But there are much cheaper ones too.
I've been impressed with their movie selection. They seem to get the new movie releases when they come out...so no complaints here

hmm...great streaming selection with free 2 day shipping, for less than either Netflix or Blockbuster...

this is quickly becoming a no brainier.

One last question, does Prime let you stream a movie's special featuers/deleted scenes/what not. I doubt they do because I don't think anyone else does either.

Prime Members if you have not seen Red vs. Blue yet then you can check those out for free with Prime & I suggest doing so

I remember when I was looking into Prime it showed you a way to stream Prime from your Xbox 360, may want to look into that if you have one instead of buying a Blu-ray player.

I don't know. I still feel that Netflix streaming has better content.

It has slightly more content but Prime is slowly but surely catching up. Prime is one big deal away from stealing Netflix's thunder and now with the Kindle Fire, Prime is set to take a huge step forward.

Isn't Prime in talks to acquire Starz, which Netflix just lost?

The one-up that Amazon Instant has over Netflix is the ability to buy things that aren't on their for free, i.e. new episodes of shows for 1.99-2.99 (SD or HD) each.

I would not be surprised if this time next year Amazon has surpassed Netflix as a lot of people's go-to. They just announced the Kindle Fire which will be integrated with the Instant Video, which means Amazon has a lot more incentive to improve/expand the service.

I guess if you have a combination of Amazon Instant and Hulu Plus, then you'll be all set. You wouldn't need cable. Same goes for Netflix Streaming and Hulu Plus.

Does Amazon have an app for iPhones/iPads? That why I can replace my Netflix app if I switch over.

I don't think so. It seems unlikely they will now considering they have their own tablet coming out now.

I know I'm supposed to be angry about this, but I never used the mail option anyway. Why is America whining?

Basically, they used to get both for the same price. Now the price has been jacked up by 60%.

So it's like one day you get a hamburger and fries together for $5. But then the next day you can still get them both but only buy them separately for $11 total.

That made Netflix very attractive for subscribers. You could do the really simple mail in system and stream as much as you want for $7.99. Seemingly a bargain price. But now the floor has broken because Netflix could no longer retain that system. They were bleeding money this way.

If Netflix streamed their entire library, I doubt the complaining would be so bad. In fact, I'd have little issue with going that route (I don't care much about special features or deleted scenes). But now streamers are forced to pay the same price for only a fraction of the content.

^Well if they streamed their entire library there would be no complaining at all, people would be rejoicing and signing up like crazy. Its just not feasible at least not yet.

Indeed. If they were just able to stream all the new stuff as it came out, there probably wouldn't have been much of an issue either.

I wonder how much is Netflix not anticipating the market properly, and how much is the studios putting the screws to them.

They can't do that though because of licensing agreements.

Netflix just handled this change terribly and their stock plummeted as a result. It is their own fault.

Netflix hiked their prices 60% during a recession. Many people have subscribed to Netflix to drop cable so this would be like a cable company hiking their prices. They're luxuries but that doesn't mean a customer should be happy and bend over so they can get screwed more.

I can't believe they didn't make these two announcements at the same time, instead of shooting one foot the shot both.

Which is why I put a good chunk of the blame on the studios.

Yeah I guess you can, but Netflix dealt with them and that's their job. Netflix perhaps could've been more upfront about their challenges with the studios and how it could keep them from keeping their subscription type the same.

It's their product so that's how it is at the end of the day.

Obviously that's based on individual taste...but for me...I think Amazon has more content in terms of streaming...most of the stuff on Netflix is old. The only reason I keep it is because of the great selection of foreign films.
