Netflix Changing Pricing Structure

But are they still planning on adding video games is my question.

A plan for Qwikster to rent video games may or may not move forward; Mr. Swasey said it was “to be determined.”

I wouldn't count on it. Games are expensive to obtain a large stock of early and more expensive to replace. Because of this, they also require extra padding for protection which means higher shipping rates.

They could've made most of the content that still requires DVD mailing available for streaming a long time ago. They still haven't. If they keep these prices with no real improvements, I'll look elsewhere.

if netflix were smart, they'd roll out a bundle plan:

mail order: $7.99
streaming: $7.99
mail + streaming: $11.99

They can't just burn the DVDs and throw them on their service, it costs a lot of money to acquire the rights to stream content, and a lot of networks/companies have little interest in agreeing to it.

It cost Netflix 100 million dollars to get all of Mad Men onto Instant. Thankfully it seems to have allowed for other AMC shows to be put on it too (Breaking Bad, Walking Dead), but that's a lot of money for basically 3 shows.

I have a hard time believing that was a good deal for Netflix. I think they let themselves get ripped off just to get their foot in the door.

It's a relief they are "listening" to customers whether fabricated or genuine but yeah, still a dumb move to have even tried this in the first place. Now they come off looking incompetent, indecisive and ineffective. Pretty much if it's a word that begins with "in" and means something negative, Netflix did it.

I'm kind of bummed about the games thing though (all signs pointing to that not happening). Oh well.

Anyone ever had a problem with Instant taking forever to load? Mine is stuck on 4% for no reason -__-

A flip-flop is better than moving forward with that "Qwikster" plan, and I might not cancel my subscription as a result. However, I think I'll probably drop the streaming service since it is still not as stacked as their DVD service, at least for now.

Just a little mini rant:

I've switched to only Instant but in doing so they've removed my DVD queue. So all the movies I was interested in are gone and I certainly don't remember everything I added to there.

Yea I know but I just wish I had that list saved somewhere on the site. I know I should've written it down or something but didn't realize it was ending today.

He wanted the list so he could remember to check out the films somewhere else. Samething for me when my family switched to streaming only. Bummer.

Actually, nevermind. Friend just told me about feedfliks, haven't heard about it till now and has my DVD info. Mini rant retracted.

Was the Qwikster plan really so bad though? Was remembering a second username and password that much of a "problem" for all of you?

It was the convenience of it, doing everything on the same site. If something on your DVD queue becomes instant you could just immediately add to the instant queue.

It's like if McDonalds made you go across the street for ice cream. it's doable but why not just keep things simple?

Netflix bought the entire CW library for around $1 billion. It's about time this shows were available for streaming. I'm watching Nikita now, but am still eager for Supernatural to be added. It sucks that we have to wait for January for that show.

Too bad I can't think of a single CW show I would want to watch.

I have the streaming only plan and I've been totally fine during this mess in the last month or so. I use Netflix to see what's on there for streaming. If there's a movie or show I can't find on there I use my "other resources" to find it.

Is Smallville on there?

No. I don't know if that was a part of the deal. I do know that everything airing from this season on will also be available instantly on Netflix.

I heard a rumor that the mess with the Superman rights could be why it isn't available. I don't know if there's any truth to it though.

Netflix just took a hit losing 800,000 subs and looking to have poor performing quarters as it tries to recoup and expand into the UK.
