Fantasy Netflix's The Witcher - General Discussion Thread

And if that ongoing rumor of Disney possibly wanting the get their hooks into Netflix ever comes to light the budgets will be even bigger.

I have little faith in Disney when it comes to TV shows. One of the first things Disney did when they bought star wars was cancel the Clone Wars and replace it with a show with a smaller budget and cheaper animation. They cant even be bothered to pay the money to put lossless audio on the blurays. And their marvel shows could use a significant budget increase but Disney has been pretty cheap with those shows as well.

Disney aquiring Netflix would likely increase the total expenses budget which would allow more shows and movies to be produced, but that would just spread the expense budget over more properties so I doubt it would result in individual shows seeing a significant budget increase.

The topic of this thread is not Norm MacDonald. It is the Witcher. Go.

I dont know why you keep deleting the post, flick, but whatever.

Anyways... Travis Fimmel for Geralt

Mark Addy for the Bloody Baron, of course. (John Goodman?)

Ciri is a tough one I am trying to cast...

No for Ronan. Ciri should be a lot younger when we first meet her. Granted, we don't know how they are tackling this adaptation. However, if it's when Geralt first adopts her, she should be considerably younger in age, like when we first meet Arya in Game of Thrones.

We meet Ciri again in Witcher 3 a considerable time later in her story. Geralt has also not seen her for a good number of years. Their first canonical meeting in the books is when Ciri is 10 years old. Geralt didn't really take an active role in taking care of his adopted daughter for a while.

Granted a TV show could change all those elements. So do you want to see the Geralt/Ciri relationship from the start, do you want to see Cirilla grow from a young girl into Geralt's would-be protege, or do you want to see a teenaged/young adult Ciri who has already had some considerable training? I think it would be better if the audience gets to see Ciri grow into the role over the course of the show. Ciri being trained by Triss, Yennefer, Geralt and the other Witchers should be major turning points for her, things like getting her tattoo, traveling to the Elvish realm, etc.

Yeah definately want to see a young Ciri at the start and watch her grow with each series, in some ways she is more central to the overall story than Geralt is I wouldnt mind if she was more of the focus to be honest or at least a close second.

I am such a nerd over the Witcher.

Played Witcher 3 first (was very late to the franchise) on release. Blown away. Best game I played. I ended up getting a good enough PC so I could run the first and second games (playing the first now).

Started the books last year. Holy hell they're good. This is MY series. I have hoped for a show never thinking it would happen. So happy.

I just hope to high hell they stick true to the source (which Sapkowski has assured us it will. Good).

And here's my choice for Geralt of Rivia: Zach McGowan

One thing that, right now, that is sad is that the games wont play a part in the series. This is solely based on the books. I hope, as development continues, they do incorporate the games in to the show.

Zach McGowan would definitely be in my top choice. But not sure if he's up for playing this type of character again.

But he's more suited to play Geralt of Rivia than Hawaiian soldier during WWII.

either Mikkelsen would work yea.

I concur with the Mikkelsens/Nikolaj/Travis Fimmel suggestions.

Whoever they cast, they have to be able to do a good chunk of the physical stuff you expect a Witcher to do (before requiring a stunt man of course).

And whoever they get, as long as they get the look right, the characterization right, we'll all be happy regardless.

*COUGH* Zach McGowan *COUGH* :p

I must be the only one who thinks Mikkelsen is just wrong for this. I could see him as Vesimir, but nothing about him screams Geralt to me.

Joe Von Zombie, I'm in total agreement. IMHO, Mikkelsen is a little too old for Geralt. You want to find someone about in their mid-30s range for Geralt.

Mikkelsen is more suited for a Vesemir role. Either that or one of the older monarchs or one of Geralt's friends like Regis.

Talking with a friend and we felt the same. Mikkelson is too old for the role now. And both agreed he should be Vesemir. If you can get him in your show, you get him in your show lol

Yeah Mikkelson would be perfect as an older Geralt towards the end of hiw witching career but assuming this series would run for a while you want to start with a younger more agile chap in his mid to late 30's and see his progression to the more mature and wisened old Geralt.

As Vesimir, perfectly fine.

Exactly. Said the same thing to my friend lol

Actually Charlie Hunnam isnt bad choice for Geralt.

he was making a King Arthur joke...
