Fantasy Netflix's The Witcher - General Discussion Thread

I've only read the first few books so far, but is there some sort of lore reason for the armor looking like that? The only explanation I can think of for a design this ugly is them trying to poorly emulate a description from the books. Really missing those Nilfgaard armor designs from the games right now. What baffles me though is pictures have come out of some of the other factions armor and they look fine, it's only the Nilfgaard armor so far (and potentially Geralt if his outfit hasn't been changed since that teaser) that looks so off.

None that I can think.

The armor designs for Nilfgaard have been getting a lot of controversy on reddit.

It is sort of oddly designed. Not sure why you would want your armor to look like a scrotum.

Nice... are these good or bad people?

Uuggghh. That design looks so cheap and fake. Metal armour made with historical methods would never look like that. The design is so strange that it makes it look like cheap plastic or latex. It reminds me of a low-budget Power Rangers villain or something...

Is the The World of the Witcher book or the comics by Dark Horse worth buying?

The World of the Witcher is a video game compendium on the game series. So if you are into an art book with concepts and such and like those kind of books and the game series then yes.

Rewatching Black Sails and I can't help but be pissed that Zach McGowan isn't Geralt.

Also Bear McCreary would probably make a killer score for a Witcher show.

This is the equiviliant of Fant4stics Doom. Absolute garbage. Even the sword in the second pic is **** and looks like something that belongs in the hands of an orc or goblin.

It should have been something like this:

But I guess that's not "edgy" enough.

Cant believe that a video game is getting more right than a show that could've used it as reference.

Its wrinkled faux leather over armor.

I reckon it looks alright. Sometimes you just need to see how it moves before you see it looks good

The video game was made by talented people, who understood and loved the material. To the point that they outdid the creator's work.

I want to stay positive but everything that comes out for this ranges from questionable to downright bad. After Game of Thrones, you can't look this cheap, and yet so far this looks rather cheap.

It looks like he’s covered and dressed up in large expired dark chocolate and has all these weird fancy ruffles. It looks pretty awful. I really hope this series is awesome because I am a huge Cavill fan

Man, the games had such beautiful armor/weapon designs. When I started reading the books after playing TW3 I imagined the characters wearing their game costumes and it fit in perfectly.

it just boggles my mind that people keep making the same damn mistakes when adapting popular stories. I understand having to add their own creative input into the world but its like they havent learned from the MCU model that you can make slight changes that fit an altered narrative while still respecting the source material.

Even putting my devil's advocate glasses on, I can't really justify the route they took for Nilfgaard armor. It's such a weird design choice.

It reminds me of Cersei's Queensguard armor. Just garish and ill-fitting.
