New compression tool shows DVD-9 is right for this gen.

you might want to have someone else do it, I would draw it out longer than you would probably want :o

Yeah, faster is always better when it comes to the killing.

And made falser still by the fact that the PS3's low-ceiling RAM won't allow it to have textures better than a 360 game.

And as we've seen in the PSP/DS sales and ratings, technology is what makes or breaks a system.

:whatever:

PS3 will probably be Blu-Ray's only success as far as sales go, until then I think DVD-9 and HD-DVD will be around for a long time...and even HD-DVD hasn't taken off quite and it probably won't be an instant transition, it'll be a transitional period of about 5-10 years

I agree that the Playstation 3 will be blu-ray's only major success, but I think that HD-DVD will also fail like blu-ray.

It's too soon for a new format and the new formats aren't that big of a technological leap like it was from VHS to DVD.

And even though HD-DVD has sold more units, blu-ray is doing much better than HD-DVD in terms of profit and support, so if there even is a winner, it will be blu-ray.

It'll take at least 5 years for EITHER to take any kind of hold....IF they do...

Wrooooooooong. Put a DVD on an HDTV-it looks like ****. Most of em. Put a DVD on a decent sound system-you can hear the compression clicks, drop offs, etc. DVD is a huge step up from VHS and is mostly damn good, but put it on a half decent system and the seams show.

Have you SEEN a BluRay flick on a proper HDTV? If stores don't start using Superman Returns next month as a demo....it's their loss.

Yep. It's what, 8 of 9 major studios signed? And most of those exclusively?

As long as I can see what it is, it's good enough for me.

HDTV is nice, but I can't justify it yet.

And that's exactly what most consumers will say-other than not being able to see a difference and "why isn't this full screen?".

Sadly, most Americans can't tell a difference in VHS and DVD....so BluRay/HDDVD have a REALLY big hill to climb. Studios haven't quite figured out that you can't FORCE things down consumers' throats....

If SED TVs hit market within 2 years-or next year as some hope-that will drive down the price of true HD considerably. Truth in advertising is more of a barrier than price....

I think my New Year's resolution is to start saving for an SED, so that when they come out in a few years I'll have enough to buy one. I've heard they are just that mindblowing.

Well, I've heard they're absolutely amazing. And if for some reason they really aren't that good when they come out and I have all this money saved then I'll just invest it (by invest, I mean go to Vegas).
