I'm glad that Matthew Vaughn is doing it. Because if Len Wiseman or whoever was gonna do it, expect it to be super slick with blue filters. Nasty.

Wonder if the studio is anxious to get this into production after Star Wars's monster opening. Sci-fi adventure is bigger than ever thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy and of course Star Wars. Here's the original property that inspired them all.
Yeah exactly. I mean look at the Lone Ranger. After how badly John Carter went down, being the originator that's been imitated countless times is a disadvantage.

Guardians of the Galaxy was a new type of space opera. It combined the classic Star Wars aesthetic with modern dialogue and sensibilities.
If you did a big budget reboot of Flash Gordon, it would probably be a struggle to balance that tone the way Guardians and Star Wars do it. Plus how do you cast that film? At least with Star Wars, audiences are going for the brand and not so much the actors.
Flash Gordon doesn't have the value of a brand like Star Wars. The old movie is only beloved as a sort of cult film for its camp and kitsch and for its so bad its good factor.
But isn't that the reason you get a director like Matthew Vaughn? To re-imagine the whole thing? Look at Sherlock Holmes with Guy Ritchie. That took a "stale" franchise and re-invigorated it. It became a blockbuster and this was before the BBC series and the other American series.
Colin Firth as Ming the Merciless LOL
