animated movie, huh?...How do you make it work so it's profitable?
Disney just had Taika do their Flash Gordon movie for them.
Taika Waititi To “Crack” ‘Flash Gordon’ As Fox/Disney Animated Film
Fox/Disney has attached Thor: Ragnarokdirector Taika Waititi to “crack” Flash Gordon, as an animated feature film.
Flash Gordon has other villains than Ming. Flash Gordon had a comic strip running from 1934 until 2003 so he has had plenty of foes. They had me at Taika Waititi.
To be honest everything I know about Flash Gordon comes from the 1980 movie, which I didn't like and have pretty much forgotten. Does he any other villain besides the racist stereotype?
EDIT: Did some googling and no, he does not appear to have other villains. Who exactly is he gonna fight in this movie
Thanks! You've been more helpful than Google, that's for sure.Flash Gordon has other villains than Ming. Flash Gordon had a comic strip running from 1934 until 2003 so he has had plenty of foes.
Azura, the Witch Queen
Brukka, chieftain of the giants of Frigia
The fascist Red Sword organisation on Earth
Brazor, the tyrannical usurper of Tropica
Kang the Cruel, Ming's callous son
Polon, who had the power to shrink or enlarge living creatures
Queen Rubia
Pyron the Comet Master
The Skorpi, a race of alien shape shifters who desired to conquer the galaxy
Ming was modeled on Fu Manchu 'yellow peril' racism back in the past but even in the the late nineteen thirties people were realizing that depiction was problematic which is why in the 1938 Universal pictures Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars serial they based Ming's depiction more like the Devil . mid 90s Flash Gordon carton series and the mid 80s Defenders Of The Earth cartoon both had a green skinned reptilian like Alien looking Ming.
Ben Acker, Ben Blacker and Jeff Parker did a Flash Gordon reboot comic run for Dynamite comics starting in 2014 that would be a solid modern inspiration for the character being adapted for a new movie.
In the dynamite comics Flash is a adrenaline junkie daredevil trust fund baby instead of being ex Polo player or NFL football star or NBA player like he has been in previous depictions.
Dan Jurgens late 80s Flack Gordon comics from DC were also pretty solid.
Am I the only one who's disappointed to see Julius Avery go?? I mean I didn't exactly love Overlord but I was still excited to see what Avery was gonna do with the source material here. A shame that he is out of the project.
I guess he'll work on something new with Warner Bros. nao that Bad Robot is with WarnerMedia (Avery is a Bad Robot prodigy).
Chris Hemsworth as Flash Gordon would be pretty good casting.Maybe he can get Chris Hemsworth as Flash Gordon.
Interesting that they would change it to live-action. Wonder when they could be filming this and who would they cast for the roles.
