NEW full TRAILER!!!

Look, I read Eisner's comic's as a kid, I'm 30, but I'm really digging the way this trailer looks. I knew from the start that this was going to be FRANK MILLER'S THE SPIRIT, NOT Will Eisner's. I knew to expect tough talking dames and crazy ass villains, IT'S FRANK MILLER!

Untill Sin City 2 & 3 comes out, this is the next best thing, Hopefully it's going to be R-rated.

The trailer, as a trailer, looks fine. No complaints other than that crappy modern music that ruins the atmosphere for me. But it does NOT look like The Spirit. At all. Rogue_Trooper said it had atmosphere, camp, sexiness, fear, etc... I ask: Where the hell is the FUN?! Nothing i've seen (including the first teaser, which i LOVED, mind you) has shown any hints of fun. It's just a bunch of seductive women playing characters written out of character. It's Samuel L. Jackson playing a character i've never seen act the same way in the comics. The camp the wrong kind of camp.

and you speak the problem: It's FRANK MILLER'S SPIRIT. Since production he's been trying to say it's Eisner's character, and everything seen says otherwise. and that's a PROBLEM. I enjoy Frank Miller. I love the guy's work. I own everything i can get my hands on, and i eat it up. But The Spirit is sacred. Miller can do whatever he wants to Batman, Superman...whoever. But The Spirit was Eisner's and always remained Eisner's, even through Darwyn Cooke's run. It's always been Eisner. You want contemporary? Read Cooke's run. That's how the Spirit film should be.

didn't realize all you guys saw the movie already should tell me how it is cause how can you guys says its crap it doesn't follow eiser's spirit you haven't seen the acting scenes the story telling in the film the trailer looked bad ass

Before i respond to this, i want to first state that i have no intention to start any flame wars with this. That said:

That's the stupidest argument i've ever read on these forums. It's happening in The Punisher forums, and i've seen it elsewhere. It's ridiculous.

A trailer for a new comic film comes out:

Person A: "Wow that looks like crap!"
Person B: "YOU HAVENT EVEN SEEN THE MOVIE YET! SHUT UP! YOUR STUPID!"

It's like, no one can say bad things about the trailers. You can only say good things. And if you have bad things to say, you get flamed for it. The whole point of trailers is to show us how the film is shaping up. Does it look interesting? Does it NOT look interesting? And if someone doesn't like it, who cares? The world is not ending. Don't get your panties in a twist. If you like the trailer and look foward to it, state that and discuss it. If you don't like it, state that and discuss it. That's what these forums are for. If you have to be childish, then leave.

Miller is making the film faithful to the essence of the books without it being nostalgic at the same time. Eisner encouraged Miller to make it contemporary. Read the Will Eisner/ Frank Miller book. Eisner saw the films Dick Tracy, The Shadow, The Phantom, and not to mention The Spirit tv movie of the 80's, and seeing how those films didn't really connect with audiences, he wasn't convinced that the same retro/period style would work with The Spirit.

You probably liked the Sam Jones movie, huh?

The Spirit could work as film noir if they had a writer/director who wasn't so completely in love with themselves. How hard would it be write a nice strong piece of fiction, done in an Indiana Jones way?

And as someone else said if he wants to ruin material, he should do it to his own.

.......because Frank Miller has an excellent unique vision of his own that is adequate for The Spirit.:oldrazz:

The Rocketeer, The Shadow, and The Phantom were done in your "Indiana Jones way" and nobody saw them.:cwink:

true the shadow and the phantom weren't good and bombed, but man the rocketeer is a damn fine movie with a brillant score!

did anyone else notice the latex edges of sam jackson's fake side burns during his little samurai scene? are they supposed to look that fake??

well im not excited about this movie-at all. i probably havent been this unexcited about a movie since....300. ive never read a Spirit comic but im pretty sure the old pictures ive seen never looked like this.

so yea, try again Frank.

It isn't unique. It looks like his overrated Sin City. And it ain't excellent either. Unless of course your hight.

Also those weren't done right, mainly do to technology. Now you can craft and entire world to fit the center character. People went to see Indiana did they not. 750 million and growing cannot be wrong no?

Sin City was very successful also.

Rocketeer and The Phantom were made very well for their time. They just didn't click with mainstream modern audiences and that's what happened.

1. It broke even on its production/marketing cost.

2. You actually consider that very successful?

I'd rather see The Spirit done like The Rocketeer or The Shadow. Both were underrated but fun movies in my view.

I kinda dug that song...what was it?

Anyway, people need to **** about it looking like Sin City. Yes, it looks like Sin City. You know why? Because its by the same f***ing director. It's his first solo film, give him a break. I think it looks great.

Darth Skywalker, just wanted to let you know, I strongly agree with everything you said on here and you put it nicely. Also, I haven't seen the Phantom but I have seen the Shadow and the Rocketeer and they're pretty darn good movies. Especially considering the Rocketeer is a Disney film. I wanna see the Spirit in a noir style like it was made to be.

I'll check it out when it comes to theaters but this trailer I think we'll make audiences go, "WTF?" and pass it come Christmas unless it's the damsels, the dames, and Frank Miller's name that'll get the asses in the seats.

The thing with The Shadow is, first of all, the film should've been called Lamont Cranston. The Shadow appeared like only 3 times.

Also, the tone of the film should've been darker and serious. I mean, The Shadow is a more extreme character than Batman. This guy kills. Let me put it to you this way, Darkman was a better Shadow movie than The Shadow.:cwink:

Amazing female cast list. But that is not enough to get me to want to see this sadly :(

i really just wish miller would make sin city 2 and toss this project off to someone else

i've never been a fan of the spirit, actually i never knew he existed until the first teaser, but from what i've heard here and elsewhere miller is not doing the source material justice.

i'm a huge sin city fan so i have eagerly been awaiting the sequel, and i'm kind of frustrated miller is making the wait longer by working on this project, especially when fan reaction has been so negative overall.

of course, there's two sides to everything so i'm sure there are some arguments to be made for miller's interpretation, but for a film to be received so poorly this early in the game seems like a warning sign.

Hmm,
Really don't know what to make of this trailer. It screams of another Speed Racer reception. Way too much style for the average Joe?

*Hurm* I like it; Sam Jackson looks a little off and some of it kinda looks green screened in a semi-poorish way, but at the time I was lookin' a flick and the volume wasn't on, so not enough credibility. Looks like whole lot of fun to me though. :woot:

it looks amazing but i dont like the compilation of the trailer. went from the women to the octopus, just seemed hacky. but i am looking forward to it for sure
