New Joe Fridays: Week 33

Dr. Strange is getting stabbed by the bane of the New Avengers! NINJAS! OMG!

Hey ninjas are uber in New Avengers, just a regular old sword damaged Iron Man's armor.

Oh lord.

Yet Electro fainted at the sight of Luke Cage, even though during REVENGE OF THE SINISTER SIX, he was perfectly willing to tango with the Hulk. Yeah, Bendy, that made sense. :p

Didnt Electro mention somewhere that that really didnt happen and that was only in a comic, based on the NA in the MU.

I think in those Masked Marvel backstories that were kind of tongue-in-cheek. I doubt it counts.

Whats gonna be considered canon? Something in Marvel's #1 book or a back up story?

just wondering. My lcs was featured in that same issue where electro **** his pants. I hope we get to see Electro get his payback from all the villians that he broke out, they owe him big time.

At least from the ones that haven't been recaptured. A good score of them have been.

Off the top of my head, Crusader, Tiger Shark, Armadillo, Mr. Fear, Answer, Razorback, Controller, Wrecker, Graviton, Sauron was iced, Silver Samurai is in Japan, etc. I am sure I left out a bunch. But the list of villians who escaped the Raft that are still free is ever dwindling, especially with Iron Man's registered heroes doing sweeps and some Secret Avengers raids.

There always is Count Nefaria, who USED to be a Maggia boss...

As for the topic of ninjas:

SPOOOOOOON!!!

Also well technically what have New Avengers done to try to bring those villians back in that they swore they would do?

I still can't believe Graviton lost to Extremis Iron Man...uhhhh

To be fair, the New Avengers took down Electro & Wrecker in their own title, and investigated Sauron and Silver Samurai. In SPIDER-MAN: BREAKOUT they took out Corrupter (after Spider-Man captured Mr. Fear, and the U-Foes escaped). Then there was Graviton in IRON MAN and maybe some others I missed.

- I love how Joe Q claims that Dr. Strange will be "kicking @$$" in NEW AVENGERS, considering both that cover and interior art leaked earlier show him getting impaled with a sword. The good Doc isn't exactly god-modering in THE ILLUMINATI so far either. Bendis has had issues getting power levels correct for characters he professes to like, such as Spider-Woman, and underpowers Spider-Man to death. He may have taken notes from THE OATH, but keep in mind that in OATH, it wasn't simply a "normal" gun that nearly killed him. It was Hitler's Gun, implying that it was mystically tainted by his evil (hell Hitler is technically the first Hate-Monger according to MU), and it was firing a silver bullet (typically useful against werewolves and other mystical creatures). So, hopefully that sword has SOME mystical explainations behind it and it's not just "ninja getting lucky". I am damn tired of ninjas in NA. I mean, they're the Hand, they're garbage, Daredevil & Wolverine beat them by the billions in their own comics. I suppose if I wanted to play Devil's Advocate, I could not blame Bendis for the fact that countless writers over the past 20 years have overused ninjas to the point where they've been near-useless fodder, but I still don't believe they should be fighting any Avengers team. They shouldn't be undermining Iron Man in a hotel room, for F's sake.

Don't forget how he overpowers Luke Cage, just because he has some crazyed obession with him.

I seem to remember Cage being powered up as far back as Heroes For Hire...i dont think Bendis even WORKED at Marvel back then.

That's true, but more recently he has gotten progressively stronger.

There's nothing wrong with Luke getting stronger, put him up at colossus level IMO.

While I agree that naturally Bendis plays favoritism with Cage (to play Devil's Advocate, few writers choose characters they dislike or don't care for, and if/when they do, things go to hell), Cage has gotten stronger than his Handbook Bio's have stated for a while. In H4H, he was duking it out with both Ironclad and Orca without any issues, and they're both at least twice his strength (and fight Hulk or Namor, respectively). Yet the Handbooks still want to say that his strength class is still at 25-30 tons and that it is because of his "street-fighting" that he is able to box out people who are twice his strength. Whatever. A punch is a punch is a punch in comics. Can't they just have him, say, working out like Ult. Colossus used to in order to explain it?

I'm not a fan of Luke Cage becoming leader of a team of "New Avengers" that in ways appear to be created via editorial decree (Spider-Man & Wolverine) and a random character generator (Echo and Iron Fist, really?), but Cage's strength boosts have been a fact for the past 8 or so years now. It's the Handbook stats that haven't changed. Ostrander started it technically. They always bring up the "Cap's Quirky Quartet" gang circa 1965 or so, but at least that roster had Cap (and technically Wasp and Hank Pym too). If you want actual Avengers, you have to go to MIGHTY AVENGERS and I am iffy on another Bendis Avengers book for me, especially since dumping any book for me seems to be a chore once I've stayed on an arc or two.

Oh, if Marvel is considering a DR. STRANGE ongoing for 2007, pray that BKV writes it. Literally. Anyone else that Marvel picks may be abysmal.

Was there internal art not just the cover of Dr.Strange being stabbed? I was told there was, but havn't seen it

Who's to say it's not some type of mystical sword or something? Or a dream sequence?

So pretty much, what you're saying is, Bendis read The Oath and thought BKV did it with a gun, I can do it with a sword!
