The Dark Knight NEW Joker Screen Test...by me

OKay i'm in a pissed off mood so forgive me for my arrogance in the following responses.

i like the video. but hate the laugh

"Sucks to your asthma"

As an aspiring film director, there are quite a few things that can bother me when watching amateur performances. One of them is a lack of confidence with what you're going to say, which is something I see alot in amateur performances. While this screen test isnt inherently bad, the fact that it isnt' well shot immediately pulls me out of the performance. But most of all, it's a certain sense of you not being exactly sure what you're doing. The simplest way I can put it is to become the character, than try to act like the character. Try to imagine that you really were the Joker, and think how you would act, look at mannerisms he might have, speech patterns, his smile, his laugh. And then, transmit that. This is why it's so hard to become a great character actor, and why there weren't that many actors out there fit to be the Joker, whch is why i was so relieved that Ledger was cast. He is able to shed his own skin and really become his characters.

You know what? your right. I wasn't sure of what I was doing...

Because the whole friggin' point of this test was for the make-up!!!:cmad: I wanted to see how it looked on screen! I didn't care about performance wise. This was supposed to be for fun. It was Halloween. I had one night to shoot this without my dad catching me and saying "what the hell are you doing?". You want to see a ****ing performance?! Here look at this video where I had no make-up! The video below had a script. The new video was supposed to be spontaneous and a spur of the moment. So I apologize for filming a 'fish out of water' screen test, but I had no intention of performing a story. So here, watch this old screen test. maybe you'll like it better.

Use a tripod in future.

DO NOT USE AUTO-FOCUS

I've learned that ><

As you can obviously see this was my first try with my new camera and I had no time to really learn things out.

Here's some makeup tests i performed for the Dark Knight Joker.

Well, good to see you fleshed that out. In response, I would say that you...
stick to Larping.

Look, man. I don't know you and I would probably have mad respect for you if I did. That said, is it a problem that I absolutely hated this?

I still stand by what I said, after watching that second(or first) test without makeup, you still don't feel in character, but merely imitating a character. There is a big difference.

You couldn't take it seriously or my performance was just bad?

But you know, it's very hard to get into a character like the Joker where there are so many interpretations that have been praised and some that are claimed definitive. Are you saying I should have put my own spin on the character? Because I understand what you mean, not imitating the character, but I don't know what kind of performance your looking for.

Just give me an example please.

Okay, basically when I look at your performance, I don't see a character at all. I see you imitating a character. I think it is, like you said, that you're not really putting your own spin on it. I think also, it's not shot correctly, so feels more like a stage performance, which to me, are rarely convincing as an actual character. But ultimately, I think it's the fact that you're failing to distance yourself from other encarnations, making it seem like you're simply trying to imitate their versions. If I were you, I'd light it so you're completely silhouetted, with the teh only source of light behind you (say a window?). This way, all the performance is dictated by your acting rather than the filming quality. Also, the smile and laugh just doesn't feel natural to me. There's no glint of insanity in your eye as you break into a grin. And that's the hardest part of acting, not only looking like you're insane, but also feeling like you're insane. The difference comes across in your eyes.

Well sorry, but I am a stage performer :o

I think you just don't like my eyes

...because they're brown :csad:

no. I'm telling you why your performance was not convincing. If you want to work on it, and ameliorate your skills, go for it. If not, then don't. If you want to just be a stage actor then fine, but that's a much different kind of acting, taht I don't really appreciate as much as film acting, because it requires a completely different kind of talent - being able to memorize all your lines, instead of convincing people you're a completely different character.

TheBat812 is completely right its another poor imitation of hamil. for a start instead of hamils laugh try using your own natural laugh.
