New Joss Whedon Buffy Spin-Off confirmed!

Great now all we need is Firefly back in some form!

That's great news, also the news that Joss Whedon is ready to come back to TV and film.

Coolness. :)

Sadly, I don't get BBC.

Don't as well, but there are other ways. Besides it's good to have old Ripper back.

From Wipikedia:

Ripper was originally a proposed television show based upon the character of Rupert Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (created by Joss Whedon). More recent information has suggested that if Ripper were ever made it would be a TV-movie or a DVD-movie.[3] Giles, played by British actor Anthony Stewart Head, was nicknamed 'Ripper' while he was dabbling in the occult during his rebellious youth.

Whedon said that the show would be in the tradition of "classic English ghost stories" and would explore the theme of loneliness. Head described the idea as being like "Cracker with ghosts";[4] Cracker was a successful and critically-acclaimed British television drama about the work of a criminal psychologist that had run on the ITV network in the early 1990s. Whedon elaborated on some the themes he had planned for the series: "The people who live there, it's all very isolated. [Giles] himself has been gone for many years. He was surrounded by a de facto family that he no longer has. And [he is] sort of picking up his life all alone, and then getting involved in the underbelly of other people's lives, and finding out all about them. Loneliness is what I think of. It may not be the theme so much as the emotional intent of the series, but that's what really attracts it to me the most"[5] It was later reported that Whedon had written the two-hour pilot, and that Espenson and other Buffy staff writers had penned story outlines for other potential episodes.[6]

Originally in 2001, the show was planned to be aired as a miniseries on the BBC. Later mentions suggested a TV movie, however in an interview in December 2005, Head suggested that Ripper would be a "two hour movie, that might become part of a series of [Buffyverse] DVDs".[7] Whedon is presently involved in Goners, Runaways, and Buffy Season 8, so as of 2007, there are still no concrete plans for Ripper.

At Comic Con 2007, Joss Whedon confirmed that talks were almost completed for a 90 minute Ripper special on BBC,[1] with both Head and the BBC completely on board.

Even better.

Why is that?

He just needs a big reason to come back to the character. He's interested in different roles, much like Gellar is. Hence why we have the IDW ANGEL books and the Season Eight BUFFY.

To the most part all of the actors and actress' have moved on from their characters. With Anthony, he's constantly doing genre work and I think on some level he's been ready for this RIPPER series for sometime, which I can't blame him.

The whole ghost concept really seems to be interesting considering Giles' issues and ties to the occult. Even if he is the head of the current Watcher's Council in Season Eight. It wouldn't be much of a stretch since he's back in England.

Dredging up old ghosts from his past is just going to lead to some serious issues with him.

I'm hoping on some level Ethan Ryane returns.

Ah ok. Good reasoning. I just want Connor, Lorne and Illyria back.:woot:
I guess David was tired of portraying Angel.
I remember seeing him say that in some article.
I guess.
I do get annoyed when people only see SMG as Buffy.:o

Lorne was gold.
It would be VERY interesting to see what would be next after the series finale.
Seriously, it'd take some time to write up something plausable.

Illyria, Lorne and Connor have all been back in the ANGEL and SPIKE books, particularly before and after Season Five finale exception of Connor as far as I can tell. I only get them in trade format.

Buffy's appearence in Season Five of ANGEL turned out to be a clone of her ironically. Explained away nicely in Season Eight's first arc :)

^The thing is though, I don't like how they draw the people in the Buffy/Angel comics.

Clone of Buffy? Hmm, interesting.

Ok, now I gotta go and make money and buy me the TPB's.:csad:

great news! thanks for the this.. where it could be done?

Thus far Dark Horse hasn't got any Season Eight trades, but if you want the real crucial ones that pick up post-Season Five. Stick with the ANGEL ones. The Spike books are suppose to be post-season five though they do have a tendency to jump back into Season Five.

Awesome. Still gotta go make that money somehow though.:csad:
Guess I go back to hooking/escorting.:o:oldrazz::csad:

LOL Swear Majick, the best stuff is going on in BUFFY Season Eight. It drags out at points but then again it's Whedon. Old faces are back...some really unexpected ones at that.

My only complaint thus far has been Georges Jeanty's artwork. I always go back to my Deadpool days of comics, when I read the issues of the first arc.

Ok, and scratch my Ethan wish. Apparently that ain't going to happen.
