New Joss Whedon Buffy Spin-Off confirmed!

You see Doyle kinda shows what that would have been like.
doyle had the visions, whistler i got the impression pretty much passed the role on to angel and maybe actually trained him in the form of combat

The role of TPTB's Champion, I suspect. I don't think Whistler was a Champion, though. He strikes me as possibly the sidekick or guide to the previous Champion.

Wo wo wo yeah Whistler was not a champion....he works for the PTB in more or less the same way that Doyle does. With or with out visions. His one job was to nudge Angel from the gutter and put him back on track according to the PTBs plans.

To me he looked very much like a pre-angel angel...

sidekick or not, He would have been involved with or as the previous champion and that is perhaps a story i would like to view....

Sounds good, Buffy was the worst bit of the whole series, so having this without her will be a step in the right direction at least!

Oh yeah I agree a whistler story would be good. He was due to be the side kick for Angel at one point but they could not get the actor back so that's where Doyle came from.

? Why ?

Buffy was basically just a poor romance character most of the time. More intent on sleeping with this or that all the time. It was like a frickin' soap!

well she was a teenage californian girl, what other interests is she going to have?

Considering the things going on, you'd of thoguht the show would focus more on some apects more, than having the central issue always "which boys does she like"

She was 16 when the show started so yeah that is what it was going to be like.

Exactly

They so had more issues than that going on. :whatever: :oldrazz:

It started out ok, but the whole angel thing went on way to long and got crappy, then riley, then spike etc etc.

The whole "She goes for the wrong kind of guys" thing wore off way too quick.

Well that's girls for you

Yes Spike was a bit crap when he got with her.

Only the first 2-3 seasons were worth while. It ended up really silly.

While I agree there was a decline over the years the Buffy relationship woth boys was not the sole reason for this. The mission statement for the show was ordinary girl lives a life with other worldy powers and wins. So the ordinary was always going to be in there. By that I mean relation ships with boys.

But they were not normal etc etc. The angel they tackled with Faith was much more impressive, how the killing and violence would affect the character etc.

Just like Angel, the first series great, then it went in decline rapidly.

the first season of angel is ****ing awesome....

they should have kept the group small and not turned it into another scooby gang

Yes Angel also had a decline then rose with the last season...but then got cancled.

Faith was a nice alternative to Buffy and she and the Mayors arc was great. Evil sides are more interesting sometimes.

Buffy started strong, but ended up covering old ground over and over again with the occaisional pleasant novelty or unusual element, for example the musical episode etc. It burned itse;f out too much, and the least interesting character was Buffy. She was dull and pathetic.

I think the second season of Angel was vastly superior to the first. The third and the first are about even. The fourth was mostly good with more bad elements than usual. The fifth was easily the best of the series.

The thing is Buffys character is still going strong actually. If you read the season 8 comics you can see the growth of this character and the others around her.

Yes the fith is on top for that show.

would you recommend getting the fifth without having seen the majority of the third or any of the fourth?

Absolutely. It's a totally new status quo, and you can pick up on the continuing character stuff pretty easily.
