New Joss Whedon Buffy Spin-Off confirmed!

I think it's telling that Faith was written better on Angel, than she was on Buffy.:o

"I got mad skills"
I think it's more telling about the fact that Faith just works better on Angel's show. Buffy's about friendship and loyalty and all the other shiny, happy stuff about adolescence with a fair share of darkness blended into the mix at various points. Angel is about people pulling themselves up out of the darkness and redeeming themselves. I personally think Faith should've just stayed on Angel's show. She's damaged goods, so of course she fits in far more with Angel's crew than Buffy's at this point, as the current season 8 arc shows.

Also true.

Eliza Dushku was heard to say that once, in another context, and Joss Whedon liked that, so befitted that same line to her character.

Faith had two different templates to work from on two very different shows, and she suited them both for different reasons, which is an even more of a testament to not only the strength and endearance and flexibility of the character, but that also of writing on, again, two very different shows.

I just her dialogue was weak and a little uncharacteristic, especially compared to how she was written on Angel.

I agree with this. I think there is a pretty vocal group of people who'd want a Faith spin-off series on television more than any other character. For one it would afford a far more complex and different perspective of being "The Slayer".

I think a spin-off for Faith might be too similar to Angel.

Maybe but I don't really see it as being as dark as Angel. Faith as gone through the light to dark and back again story so to make her character go down to a dark edge again seems unfair. Now a spike spin off would be fun.

theres talk about a Faith series? Man I hope this is true! Joss would have done it years ago when Buffy ended but Eliza signed on for Tru Callings

With Spike as a cameo I hope....:woot:

Meh, though I love Faith and Eliza Dushku, I don't think a spin-off would work.

I don't, either. It'd just be like recasting Angel's show with Buffy. Faith herself never really struck me as a very strong character, to be honest. She's always been "dark Buffy," a character whose sole purpose is to be the cautionary tale about what Buffy could become if she were irresponsible with her powers. That's not to say she's not an enjoyable character, but the fact remains that she works best as a foil.

I just think a Faith spin-off would run the risk of turning her into Buffy with an edge, while treading on Angel's redemptive theme. Sort of been there, done that, kinda thing.

and I dont necesarily see that as a bad thing

Yes been there done that but if they did it better. What we really need is some sort of Buffy, Firefly cross over.

In a good way or bad way? I thought Angel wouldn't last more than a couple seasons, and it became my favorite show out of the two.

Good for you. I also fell on the Angel camp after watching the first few seasons. So much more adult.

I can see a Faith spin off perhaps see her unwillingly taking on slayer responsibilities while actually trying to lead a normal life.

No matter how hard she tries, she always gets pulled back in.

Although i can't think of a reason why she would consistently carry on, unless perhaps buffy got kidnapped or maybe spike lost his soul for a bit and flipped.

saying that souless spike and soulful spike aren't really that different. Maybe they could rectify this by making him a proper antagonist.

Saying this, it just sounds a lil too close to buffy for me.

ultimately i think faith works in small doses, over usage of her character makes her lose her charm. just bring her in when all else fails...

although telling her tales against kikistos would be pretty sweet and her early slaying days...

Yes show her before the drama. Leading up to her original watchers death. To highlight the happy care free Faith before she get the slayer power. Very good idea.

Faith's personality leads me to believe that she was definitely not happy or carefree before receiving her Slayer powers. There are more issues than just dealing with a crazy, ancient vamp going on in that head of hers.

Well yes I guess like her parents etc...

Her father was absent, and her mother was an abusive drunk and probably ****ty too.

in a repetitive way.

Faith's boobs do top some of the other boobs on the show.
