New Live Action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie In The Works?

The original live action turtles movie is still one of the best movies ever imo. I can't imagine a new one actually being better.

Agreed.

It was decent, but honestly it does not have the same kind of nostalgia for me since I didn't see it until I was a lot older, and by then it seemed more loveable for its camp value than legitimately great.

I think the first movie was a happy accident, like Pirates of the Carribean 1 or even The Matrix..where things fell into place: good chemistry, good humor, good script, good flow, good direction, etc.

The best part about the movie was Casey Jones and the very young SAM ROCKWELL.

I know that it is never likely to happen but how about an adaptaion of The River or City at War? Both stories are amazing. Instead of retreading ground that has come before give us another story. Everyone knows the orgin of the Turtles and their fight with Shredder so why not do what the Hulk did and just jump in and go?

Hopefully with the sequel they'll explore some new territory. Just getting Baxter Stockman and the Mousers will be pretty fresh though, since Shredder was the only comic / cartoon baddie in the original movies.

What's the red headed youn vampire chick from True Blood named ? I think she would make a good April O'Neal.

what's the latest news?... and is there confirmation that it'll be actors in suits with cgi heads?

So I was reading some of the issues off of the main site and just realizing that maybe the zack snyder approach might be the best one for this series to reboot with. I mean just using the the comic panels as your shots. It is written very theatricaly all ready. I know that Snyder is a polorizing director and his style isn't for everyone but I think it would be very cool for our green friends.

I was also thinking, what would you guys think of a B&W version of all the movies being released as a special kinda of thing?

I honestly believe Snyder could breath a fresh breath of life into this franchise, but I honestly think other directors could do it as well.

I once spoke doubtfully about the possibility of using perfomance capture on the turtles' faces since they don't have particularly human-shaped faces. However, that was before I saw the trailer for Avatar, and I see now that the technology is actually pretty flexible in adapting to different facial structures, since the Na'vi in that movie don't exactly have normal, human-proportioned faces. If they are to design the turtles in a way that's similar to that fan-made concept image that I love oh-so-much, then I think it's quite feasible that a human actor's facial movements could be adapted to the turtles. It may turn out that the turtles look better when their faces are animated by hand, but performance capturing the actors' faces would at least be worth doing a screen test for.

I was hping they'd adapt the City at War storyline, but set 20 years after the first TMNT (Skip the second and third, they don't need to be canon). The turtles are now highly-experienced adults in a post-9/11 world. Elias Koteas can still portray Casey Jones, but as an older, embittered vigilante, married to April O'Neil (portrayed by Paige Turco, I liked her better). Splinter is dead, or at least wayolder. Shredder is alive.

I've dug all of Snyder's films and think he could make a really cool TMNT movie. His sensibilities and style would go well with the property. Not to mention he grew up reading/collecting the original Mirage TMNT comic's and is a big fan, so there's definitely a chance he would be interested. Unfortunately, he's busy at the moment with other projects, so I don't think he's an option.

Here's an interview with him, where he mentioned TMNT:

ZS: The only title I really collected to this day is the original TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).

NRAMA: The Eastman and Laird black and white series from Mirage?

ZS: Exactly. All that stuff, what’s the guy’s name they always fought?

NRAMA: Shredder.

ZS: Right, I loved him! As I’ve told the story, I was a Heavy Metal fan (magazine, not music style). My mom got me a subscription to Heavy Metal when I was really young, not really knowing it was adult oriented, so I would read it and not let her know what was in it.

I’m sure if she saw some of the stuff that was in it, she would have been freaked out and appalled. She would just see the covers and say, “Oh Zach loves this stuff, this is perfect.” So it was hard for me to go to normal comics because I was a little bit broken and spoiled—when are they going to start &#@!ing or killing each other! So that kind took me out of comics for a little while.

It’s weird, TMNT was the one that kinda hooked me, you know? I guess at the time in high school, I was into renaissance artists and all that. And then a few years later, Dark Knight and Watchmen were really when I got back into comics — not heavily, but they were the ones that got me to believe again if you will. I think that’s a common story. But it’s mine as well.

NRAMA: How old were you when you were reading Heavy Metal and the Turtles?

ZS: I was in high school, so I guess Heavy Metal from about 14, maybe even before that, 13 to the present. Turtles were 17-18.

If they were to bring back Tatsu, which I would like, would anyone be against Ernie Reyes Jr Playing Tatsu?

Tatsu was a cool character for the first two movies but in a faithful restart he really doesn't have a place. Unless well they make him an elliet Foot Soldier. I guess that would work. I just want to see them do the Turtles right.

Tatsu was an awesome character.....don't know if he's needed in a sequel though. Out of the three original films, the third film was by far the worse.

I just got the collected book 4 today, Return to New York, and have to say it is freaking amazing. After reading it I had a thought on how I would like to see a Trillogy structured.

The First Movie: The Turtles battle Shredder and kill him. They save April from Mousers in the sewer and learn about Stockman. They deffeat him. When they return to their home Spilnter is gone and the home is in ruin.

The Second Movie: The Turtles are dealing with Splinter missing and trying to find him. Casey is introduced. The Foot attack them in revenge for the death of Shredder. They discover the T.C.R.I building. They get sent into space fight Triceratons and the Utroms are able to get them back. However a Triceraton escapes into the sewer. Family reunited.

The Thrid: Open with Leo getting the crap kicked out of him. The turtles escape after being deffeated by Shredder. They flee to the Farm house and heal. Raph gets feed up with hiding and goes back. He fights some foot before meeting up with the Triceraton from the last movie who is dieing cause our air is poisen to him. The others show up Raph tells them about Zog and how he is going to help they attack Shredders base and learn how he was resurected with worms. Leo fights him and he is killed.

Of course that is just a real quick overview. It would keep a trillogy close to the orginal 12 issues Liard and Eastmen did.

That's exactly the turtle movie I want to see Darth. And after watching Hellboy 2, Hollywood has the technology to bring the Triceratons and Utroms to life on the big screen. Sad thing about it though, so many on this thread is against seeing the Triceratons in a movie, which I still can't understand.

That's what I would want from Tatsu,to be "The Most Elite" of the foot.Shredder's apprentice, his second in command.

How are you a big TMNT fan who collects all the comics to this day yet don't remember the turtle's arch villain the Shredder?

I like Snyder, but that's just weird.

Me: Yeah I love Batman, grew up with it, I'm still an enormous fan and have a lot of the comics. Who's the guy Batman always fights?

You: The Joker.

Me: Yeah, that's him. Man, I loved Batman my whole life.

You just sound stupid.

It doesn't have to be him but how he approaches comic films I like. You have your big dramtic shots all ready just have to link them. The first issue is very theatrical all ready just needs someone to film it. I was very sad when I heard they where going to do a CGI movie of the first issue but due to buget and such couldn't. Instead we got Turtles Forever, which I can't wait for!!

So I got the Return to New York collected book in the mail today and read it four times. It is an amazing story and deals with the dynamics of the guys very well. It is also a very violent tail as they kill a lot of Foot Soldiers as they storm Shredders headquarters to get to him. It really would make the best end of a trillogy of movies.
