Transformers New, Non-spoilery review on AICN

That's review actually doesn't sound too good. He's pretty much saying he was entertained by the sheer idiocy of the movie.

No damn epic intro anymore??? This movie is just ****ing waiting to blow up...

thank you :up::eek:

actually it's a positive review

he basically says this isn't stanley kubricks 2001

and even the most stanley wanting audience won't be able to not enjoy this film based soley on the fact that this movie is cool and insane...

ahem...superman returns was neither

you got that from reading the review? to me it sounded like he enjoyed it the way most of us think the movie will be (summer popcorn blockbuster). he definitely had his gripes but i didn't feel like he enjoyed the movie because of the "idiocy".

No damn epic intro anymore??? This movie is just ****ing waiting to blow up...

just cuz he didn't mention the intro doesn't mean it's not there (he didn't mention a LOT of the movie's scenes) but then again i wouldn't be surprised if they ditched it either.

What?! He stated that the worst parts of the film are the ones that don't include Shia, The Robots. Only the few that have Jon Voight in them. He stated that it made him feel like a kid again. Like a kid in a candy store with his eyes :wow: . I don't see how he said he was entertained by the sheer idiocy of the movie. I think Cflash that your starting to grasp at straws now. I can't wait to see the reviews roll in with in the next couple of weeks and you and the other detractors try and shred them apart while praising the bad ones.

I know that this is heart breaking to you, but the average movie goer which this film depends on. Has no clue what the scene is or that it was supposed too be there. The 5000 people that know about that opening will just have to wait for the DVD, because we've seen the set shots, they shot the scene. For all we know it is moved past the Dakar air base scene and just a little ways in.

The reason im so hoping for that scene is because in my mind if shot right, it could really be a class scene, epic, tone setting and a great intro. Instead from 2-3 reviewers we hear it starts of with the base scene, so setting the tone that this movie is nothing but an excuse for Bay to blow as much **** up as he can within 2 hours. Scenes like that dont belong on DVD's my friends, thats where Singer messed up (Return to Krypton scene).

"Characterization? - Where? CG? - Everywhere! But I really enjoyed it. "

Almost every line of the review was pretty much "this was kinda stupid, but I enjoyed it!" "The dialog was painful, but Shia manages to save this or that." Yes, it's a positive review. He "enjoyed" himself. Nowhere did he say it was a GOOD movie. In fact, he all but said it's a forgettable ID4-like romp that will entertain you for two hours and that's about it.

Not a classic. SOME of us, kinda expected more. I know... naive, for sure.

Singer messed up more then just one scene. That movie had a poor script and poorly conceived.

I would like to see this scene as well, I'm with you that it could be one epic scene. But I really don't think that its going to kill the movie if its not in there.

Bay has a job to do, and that job is to make a movie that MILLIONS of people are going to go see. Not just a couple thousand fan boys and girls looking to relive the past 20 years ago.

I disagre. I think Superman Returns was beautifully shot. At times downright brilliant. The story was just weak.

Sorry I ment, script/story not shot. There were some great shots in the film.

my bad yo!

It's all in my previous post, this movie needs all the "class" it can get, to be more than just a blow-em-up movie this summer. Specialy to make millions go see it. People wont make it have legs if its just all action and no material. What does your last part of the comment hav to do with anything i said? How is that fanboy-ism?

That was just in general...not toward you.

This is where i differ from you, This film is coming out on one of the biggest movie weekends of the year. It is hot and people are bored. If managing a theater for 4 years has taught me anything its that they want one thing and one thing only, to be kept cool and entertained. And for your average joe movie goer in the summer. That is big explosions cool effects, a story to move the action along and more EXPLOSIONS!

Just what I've noticed in my time at the theater in the summer

Some people read what they want to read because it reinforces their pre-determined opinion. Better to just let it go.

Really great news for Shia!

I loved those scenes the MOST in the script and novelization and probably in the comic book adaptation. Those are the scenes that I always want to get back to because those scenes are really full of life and alot of energy. Sam's story is one of the things I am most anticipating about the film actually, so as long as that and the action is excellent- bring on July 4th!

------------------------

So, the things that I was looking for in the review:

I really enjoyed it. It made me feel like I was 10 years old again. I don't think a summer movie has made me feel that way since The Matrix.

The "human" more comedic side is actually pretty good. Often these days films can't get the balance of these things and they feel forced in and just make you wish they'd get back to big ****-off robots battling (which is why we're there anyway). I think the reason they get away with it is LaBeouf. I had only seen him in Holes and Bobby prior to this and hadn't understood why there was such a buzz on him but his comic-timing is superb. He is just so effortlessly likeable. It's like Tom Hanks in Big, Will Smith in Independence Day, Michael J Fox in Back to The Future, he's effortless and gives a great performance.

Thankfully there's not much of them (President and tech geeks). Shia just brings the whole thing to life, he is a true joy to watch and i look forward to other films he's in. Megan Fox is of course also in most of his scenes and she's fine. She is not bad at all and she's gorgeous but any reasonable actress her age could have done just as well. Shia is working on another level from those around him.

These are the moments that really took me, that transported me back into my 10-year-old self. I got so excited by it. As I say I probably haven't been genuinely excited by watching a blockbuster since The Matrix. It was a feeling I remember having for Jedi as a kid, Batman and T2 as a teenager.

Looks like a great Sam's story with Transformers film to me, and that's what I want to see.

Good point, i keep forgetting its coming out on a long holiday week-end. I hope for once they keep a scene im realling looking forward to in the movie, even when all signs point to a big red NO...:cmad: :csad:

The ice scene? I would have personally loved that scene too- but, in the end all it serves for is "repeated information." Money shot? Hell yeah! Repeated information? Without a doubt. You see this is what Fox doesn't do, the key to cutting a film is deciding what information is needed and what information isn't that important because it's REPEATED later on in the film.

While actually seeing what causes Project Ice Man would be awesome, we learn about all of that information not more than ten minutes later in the film with the whole E-Bay scene. Thus, it's just a "repeat"... if that makes sense?

Saw the cut coming a mile away due to that and the earlier AICN review.

Like I said earlier, I'm with you on that scene as well. the first time I read the script and read that scene my jaw dropped. The possiblities are endless. I guess I'm just not so skeptical yet and more optamistic ;)

PS. I know i can't spell worth a $hit. Sorry to all that have had to read my spelling

Really?

"Transformers did that for me. Best of this years crop so far (not that the disappointing Spider-Man 3, dull At World's End or abyssmal Shrek the Third set the bar high mind you!) by a long way."

I have a *perfect* idea that'll help ease your suffering and allow you to enjoy this iteration of Transformers for what it is...

Starting 4 weeks out (which is next weekend), go see Spiderman 3. Then the next week go see Shrek. Then the next week go see Pirates. By then you'll be so utterly disappointed with Hollywood, and your expectations will be set so low, it'll be impossible not to enjoy Transformers.

That's still not saying it's a good movie. In fact, he went out of his way to say the movie has NO characterization, really bad dialog, and some very painfully stupid scenes. Yet, he enjoyed it. That's great for him. It all goes back to the Independence Day analogy... I think it's downright one of the dumbest worst movies I've ever seen... but many people enjoyed it- event the ones that agree with my statement!

I expect more from Transformers. That's all.

Outside of here I haven't heard one person say anything that bad about ID4. Sure, it's not the greatest plot wise. But, it was a really fun ride of a film that kept and keeps on entertaining from beginning to end.

Yeah thats the kind of reviews I expect. As long as I am entertained and can get past the flaws I should be satisfied.

You are really unbelievable.

Come on. He goes out of his way to say the movie has NO characterization, really bad dialog, and some very painfully stupid scenes. Yet, he enjoyed it.
