I'm sorry if this has been posted somewhere, but I didn't see it when doing a search.

Without further ado, what do you guys think?

https://www.dol.gov/whd/overtime/final2016/

So far, I'm salaried, and do enjoy the minor perks of what it offers with I thought was a pretty decent company. I work about 50 hours, which, while annoying I understand and I am pretty fairly compensated. Vacation, sick days, bonuses, and all that jazz.

Now, none of this is set in stone, but our boss got told by his supervisor that they will cut our pay to hourly (That's cool), but in effect will cut it minimum, and make us work 50 on overtime to make what we are making now. I'm thinking this is pretty scummy, and we are having a meeting on it on the 1st. I'm sure the backlash will be pretty big, and I'm sure I'll be looking for something else at this point.

Anyone else having similar issues, or has it helped you?

That's what happens when government tries to over regulate labor. I wouldn't be surprised if this is going to happen a lot of places though. It's really for the managers at fast food chains and in customer service that are salaried and then don't get overtime pay for working those jobs. It's going to hurt those in the middle class with salaried jobs like yourself.

No, this is what happens when businesses f*** over their employees! They find ever loophole they can to pay as little as possible. Then, when the government or a union try to hold them accountable, the hunt down new loopholes. It's disgusting that businesses are allowed to operate this way. Sadly, though it just shows that they can't be left to their own devices and be trusted to treat their workers fairly.

We are talking about unskilled labor though here with little bargaining power and when the government intervenes in one area it causes problems for another group. It's a free market if workers feel they are being treated unfairly they can look for work elsewhere. Just like the OP said, he's going to start looking for other jobs because of how his employers are now treating him, the problem is that now the government has placed these new regulations he may not be able to find a job that offered the same type of benefits as before the new law.

That's also part of the problem. "Oh, you don't like how I'm treating you? Go work elsewhere while I find someone who will bend over and take it." Then the worker they find get to be mistreated until they can't take it anymore and try to find another job. However, if no one ever hold employers accountable, there is no other job to go to.
