Shooting Myself in the Foot

...metaphorically, of course.

After 3 years of passed up promotions, ass hat assistant managers, b**** supervisors, angry customers, and unholy levels of bureaucracy that somehow cause managers to "forget" to give you the vacation you put in for, I have finally quit my job in sales & lower management at my local Fry's Electronics.

:applaud :woot: :applaud

And I did it during one of the biggest economic slumps the US has seen in years.

:facepalm

So as of this week, I am back on the job hunt... along with countless other people across the nation. I'm sure the search for work will be unbelievably competitive, but believe me, after working retail during the Thanksgiving Weekends and Christmas Seasons several years in a row, I'd be willing to take one of the jobs from that TV show Dirty Jobs.

Anything to keep me away from "Excuse me. This $5 DVD has a slight tear on the corner of its shrinkwrapping. Can you take $3 off its price for me, even though there are no indications that the disc has been damaged or tampered with in any way? If you say no, I'll ask to speak with a manager, who will tell me 'no' until I complain to both you for 10 minutes straight-- after which, I'll receive a $2 discount just to shut me up. I'll reject this discount, however, and tell you I'm shopping at Best Buy. There goes roughly 15 minutes out of your day. I hope you didn't have anything important to do that will require you to work a few minutes overtime to complete, causing you to get yelled at because you have 0.25 hours of overtime on your next paycheck."

nothing like a job in retail to kill your faith in humanity. between the people who are just plain stupid, and the scammers sometimes I want to just beat some asses into the ground

Most frustrating part of my retail experience was when my manager told me I couldn't chase after shoplifters b/c they could sue the store if they got hurt during the pursuit

W T F

Well, I've got an upcoming interview with UPS.

Best of luck with the interview.

My wife used to work at a Wilsons Leather. People would just walk in and take things, and walk out, and they weren't allowed to do anything. The lawsuit potential is part of it, but I understand that it's more along the lines of, if the shoplifter is armed and kills you, the store would tend to be held liable.

I got a buddy that works for them, he seems to enjoy it. Good luck with the interview.

And as for you quitting, I had a job like that about 3 years ago. Got treated the same way, and pretty much the same stuff happened to me. So when they were really busy one day, I just up and walked out. Was working a 12 hour shift, and hit my 8th hour without a break. That happened alot. So I up and left.

I can relate to your situation, and I think you did the right thing. I just hope you can manage to get a job soon.

They won't care when I'm dropping that hot leather s*** on 'em.

Besides, if this interview goes well, I'll be pulling in Delivery Boy money. I'll be a catch.

A shoplifter would have to have some serious balls to shoot/stab a store employee in the middle of a crowded mall.
