Sequels New Raimi Interview

I love it that no matter what Spider-Man fans think, I have the creator of Spider-Man on my side, who agreed with the R-rated elements in a Spidey film...and that's good enough for me.

And please, don't be sorry to say. I'm finding out a lot about fanboys, and why we should prepare ourselves for songs like THREE BLIND MICE or LONDON BRIDGE IS FALLING DOWN, as we watch Peter Parker never grow up like Peter Pan. Yeah, let's keep our mentality set to a 4th grade level as the next film rolls around. If nothing else, at least we'll have another plush toy, from another Spidey movie to rival that of Elmo's toys.

Ummm...if he thought that Cameron's movie was a proper Spidey movie, he was sadly mistaken

Also, I don't care about his opinion on this. I am more focused on mine.

Let him want his R-rated comic book movies.

Its not going to happen any time soon with the Spider-Man franchise anyway.

There is much more to a movie than sex and extreme violence anyway (unless you're a horny 13-year old kid).

Batman on the other hand, I could see being R-rated. I'd love to see an R-rated TDK (violence only no sex please).

Leave sex to porn.

It's not going to happen ever. Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, X-Men, etc. all have mass market appeal. It would be counter-productive to release those movies with an R rating.

Exactly.

In the end, no point arguing about it.

Those who want a darker, more mature movie can complain about it for the rest of their lives- they'll never be satisfied.

And in the end, it doesn't really matter what they want since they are in the minority.

You're comparing Lee's characters outside of Marvel's, come the hell on, that has nothing to do with Spider-Man. I never said an R-rated script automatically makes a great script. I've already told you why I wanted an R-rating, because we're heading into Disney area with the films. To me, its becoming a bit too childish. Basically, there are PG rated films that are written stronger.

Speaking of NOT expanding characters, we're pretty much in the same spot we we're during the first film. Thanks to trying to keep the films family friendly, we don't have any real villains in the damn thing. We have a Peter who's still a nerd and practically a monk. Let me take a guess, there's going to a villain who kidnaps MJ towards the end of SM4 for the fourth time, and a love triangle, right? Now that's what you call NOT expanding.

If the new writer can bring about a change I'm all for it, even with a PG-13 film. But with three movies thus far and Broadway Musical being made. I just don't see the the mindset of those involved allowing the new writer to create enough change under the current PG-13 rating, and namely Sony/Raimi/Arad with their kiddy ideas at the ready.

I've heard the same thing said about Sam Raimi many times.

In the musical there will be more mature themes including sexuality.

I personally just want a toned down version that embraces more of the '80s Spidey than the '60s Spidey. Which means he is still playful and fun but the stories can have a little more of a kick to them and Peter is more mature and less geeky.

Oh and Lizard and preferably a marriage. ;) :p

I mean the only great "R-rated Spidey story," is Kraven's Last Hunt and really that can be done in a dark PG-13 pretty easily and would compliment Lizard, nicely.

P.S. I wish they allowed the implication Peter and MJ were adults in SM3 and...had sex (oh nos, yells Sony!) but as long as they are unmarried it ain't gonna' fly with Sony. But I cann't say it is really needed either but a nice mention like in the web scene at the beginning would've worked like a fade out of them rounding more than first base as the meteor falls (which would explain why they weren't paying attention to it :p )...but again, Sony won't let that **** fly in am ovie that parents can write angry letters about.

Still, it ain't that big of a deal anyways because other than a few VERY subtle implications with MJ and BC the comics never really portrayed Peter having those urges until married, either.

Can we discuss the interview now. Visionary I'm sure there are those that might agree with you but it doesn't matter...it's not happening. However you can create a thread for those who'd like to see an R rated Spider-Man film and you could discuss it there.

One of the things I liked about the comics was Peter's normality. In the comics he was very human in the sense that he had needs and urges and one of those urges was, the affection of an attractive girl, in which there were a few. These movies have made no effort to establish a realistic Peter Parker with realistic feelings and believavble passion and emotion. These movies have his urges directed towards the paramount of all importance, Mary Jane. Ugh

The fact is, these movies are playing it too safe and it's ridiculous. What's even sad or even pathetic is, I can find more and stronger violent scenes in a single episode of Tom and Jerry than in three 2 hour spider-man films.
The fact is, an R-rated spidey film just won't happen BUT R-rated scenarios can happen within the confines of a pg-13 film. Movies do it all the time. The fact is, spider-man can get away with a lot more stuff that its afraid to do but Raimi and co just don't have the balls to go through with it.

If you want to debate something at least make sense.

As much as people want an R-rating to happen, it's not going to. It's just not meant to be and it never will be IMO.

Clearly you don't understand what I've said and I don't see how because it's as clear as day. An episode of Tom and Jerry is more violent than three 2 hour spider-man films. What don't you understand? Makes perfect sense to me. Honestly, these spidey films make Tom and Jerry look R-rated.:whatever: :o

Who are these people you speak of? Vis is the only one who wants an actual R-rated movie. There are others, including myself who believe that these movies can benefit with a few R-rated scenes to really stretch and make maximum use of the pg-13 rating. Like I've said before, the movies can depict a whole lot more but Raimi and co lack the testicles to really put in the effort.

To whoever wants an R rating:

First off to the post above (I know you don't want an R rating) A few R rated scenes make for an R rated movie bud. The boundries of PG-13 are flexible enough to allow for an intense action film. The topics that bring a film from PG-13 to an R rating is Gore, Vulgarity, Nudity, Drug Use, and extremely intense sequences of a long duration. For instance the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan.

It's like you want an R rating just for the sake of an R rating without even thinking about it for a minute that what you want will fit fine within a PG-13 rating.

Again...if you want to debate this make sense. Otherwise you're just laughable. Howabout you go to the Tom & Jerry Forums then if you need an R rating to be happy. LOL

R-rating isn't what is needed then. What is needed is, the stretching and making full use of what can be done in a pg-13 movie and that is yet to happen in these spider-man movies. These movies are too soft and tame. If we get the lizard for sm4, I look foward to the people who'll blindly defend the lizard running around scaring and just roaring at people instead of making kills and leaving a body count, bearing in mind that these movies are allegedly focusing on keeping things grounded and realistic. More needs to be done, fact.

That makes sense even if I don't agree with your opinion of the 1st 3 films.

I would got to the Tom and Jerry forums but we don't have one.:o
At least there I could discuss the brutal violence and occasional more mature themes that go on in that cartoon, that parents for over half a century havn't fussed about. Yet, we can't get a ghoulish green goblin because kids will be scared. Whatever:whatever:

The spidey movies are pathetically soft and full of sugar coating garbage. I won't be surprised when TMags gets replaced, they'll get half the cast of that bloody disney high school musical crap and have pete dancing and singing after MJ.....without the aid of the symbiot.:whatever: You people have praised this crap for so long and what did it ultimately result in? The "critically acclaimed" spider-man 3.:whatever: :o

A shake up is what's needed and hopefully this new writer can deliver and not pussyfoot around, turning these movies into some crying care-bare crap.

I want to see a new cast and new director but I enjoyed all 3 films. I'm over this interpretation now and want something new. I could deal with the current cast for 1 more film I guess but would prefer not to.

Regarding Tom & Jerry.

Outside of ASM #150 show me on issue where he "has these urges." There are metaphors for it with BC and hints like her making breakfast for him, but you never actually see in the comics any semblance of "sexy" until after he is married when it is okay, then.

P.S. Now I think the tone can be pushed much darker and more serious but the action is pretty big in all three movies and the Doc Ock fights and Harry fights in SM3 had a brutality to them. Even if you disagree there, the climax of SM1 did push some PG-13 limitations in how much you saw a guy getting the **** kicked out of him including deleted shots of him spitting blood (turned to saliva due to studio demands) and him coughing blood after his hand was smashed into the ground (due to MPAA demands).

I'm pretty sure that ass whopping Spidey took was more violent than anything seen in a T&J cartoon.

I guess everyone is in agreeance that the Spiderman films that have been made by Raimi and his neo-con team havent exactly delivered what modern fans of today want, Though I still think an R-rated Spiderman movie is a stupid idea, it would be pleasing to see more advanced themes and ideas and not the closed minded subject matter that we've gotten. Raimi tried to make the first as violent as he could, its the studio that wont let them get away with everything, but he also hasnt tried to put in any liberal or progressive ideals that I think would add some depth and reality to the film universe.
