Sequels New Raimi Interview

I can't wait to see who they choose as the Villians. As i have said before, I would love to see Lizard and Kraven.

The new writer would have to be crazy to not want the Lizard...

The more I think about it, the more I don't really want to see Kraven in SM4. I'm thinking Vulture or Electro now.

What if Raimi doesn't like the two villains, how would Raimi have the passion to make a good movie then.

Then Sony will hire someone else to direct, assuming Raimi is even directing this. Nothing has actually been confirmed yet so anything can happen, regarding his involvement.

Personally...Raimi's stories are done. ***** continuity! Raimi's films revolved around Peter/MJ and the Goblin legacy and it ended there. With all this talk about taking any direction, even restarting is a clear sign that the studio want a massive shake up and want something different from Raimi's stories and ideas. With that said, characters who were thought to be dead, such as doc ock can easily come back...as long as the story is good BUT I hope the writer delivers one hell of a kick ass story that doesn't make as many compromises and take as many liberties as Raimi did....oh and TMags aint coming back either. I can feel it.

It still needs to be connected to the first three in some shape or form.

I don't know if the Goblin Legacy is EXACTLY over. Let us not forget about Hobgoblin :o and I don't see Peter dumping MJ for Gwen.

I can see that as well, but Spidey 3 is STILL the highest grossing movie of 2007 so I don't think they'll go in an entirely different direction.

I can feel it as well.

Didn't DAD make a tonne load of dough but that was a huge dissapointment and then Babs and co had to drastically take Bond back to Connery-times and what we got was the glorious CR.

Die Another Day made 160 million domestically and 431 million world wide.
Spider-Man 3 made 336 million domestically and 890 million world wide.

See the difference?

Secondly...everyone hated Die Another Day. Spider-Man 3 atleast has its supporters. And another thing, Raimi already proved himself and his approach with the first two movies. Yea, Spidey 3 may have disappointed many but most people love the first two. Die Another Day, on the other hand, was directed by Lee Tamahori (sp???) who everyone dislikes and didn't prove himself.

See the difference?

SONY may wanna take a different approach with Spidey 4, but I DOUBT it will be completely different from the first three. Spidey 4 will SOMEHOW be connected to the first three.

Yeah, you dont really have a restart as a direct sequel to a hit film just three years later. The only thing that could be different is that some continuity errors could be allowed, just to not have the writer be restricted. But its pretty certainly going to be a part of Raimi's Spiderman universe.

I think it's obvious that The Lizard is the next villain, but I'd like to see Raimi return and prove to everyone that without the meddling of Avi Arad, he can make a fantastic film.

LIZARD!!!!!!

Sorry my turn to be hopeful. :p

Anyway, Raimi's interview was quite interesting. It shows he does have a great deal of interest in SM4 still, that he mst likely isn't doing The Hobbit and we now know that he didn't even remember what happened in Superman III when he wrote the early drafts and plot of Spider-Man 3, so that old argument can die.

I also thought it was funny when he was complimenting superhero sequels, he complimented Bryan Singer but didn't even mention Ratner or X3. Makes me happy.

Yeah, i noticed that and was glad he didnt mention the trash that was X3, we all know why he didnt.

But, and i may be alone in this, but i got the vibe from Raimi in this interview that he wont be directing, dont know why.

Me too. He seemed like someone who was like "Yeah. I wish them all the luck in the world." - He did, however, say he was going to work with the screenwriter on Spider-Man 4 after the strike is over. That surely doesn't mean he will be directing, it's definitely a start though.

Hi guys, great to see such a response to the interview that was posted over at CSBG. Just a quick note: the interview was actually for an Australian publication called Scene Magazine, not CBR- it was just posted there so that international Raimi fans would be able to see it, since Scene is only distributed in Queensland. If any of you happen to be Queensland residents, I urge you to pick up next week's issue for the Raimi story.

Since I'm here, I figured it'd be helpful to respond to some of the interesting comments and maybe help clarify some things:

It also sounds like he's working on ideas (but not writing them down) and hoping he can find a writer to work off of that framework. Just my assumption of course. :)

Actually, and this is just my interpretation of what Sam said, it sounds like he's deliberately avoiding working on ideas, in the hopes that the new writer can bring a fresh approach to the film. As a Raimi fan, I'd love to think that Sam will have a strong influence on the story (I loved SM3), but that appears to not be the case.

LOL, even Raimi is opposed to Peter being married.

I actually thought Raimi's aversion to the Spider-Marriage was one of the more interesting things to come out of the interview, and it's hard to fault his logic.

As someone who's wondered about the Spider-Man/Superman connection for awhile (I think Ebert may even have brought it up in his review of Spider-Man 2), I found his comments about the Superman franchise fascinating.

Regarding his comments about the X-Men franchise, it's absolutely worth noting that the question related to the influence other superhero films had on him when he began to approach the sequels, and at the time Raimi began work on Spidey 2, X3 hadn't actually been released. I didn't get the impression that there was any snark towards Ratner from his tone of voice.

Thanks again for the interest, guys!

So, Rami is going to force Toby and the girl who plays MJ (sorry, I can`t remember how to spell the girl who plays MJ`s name) to come back for part#4 like the female producer(can`t remember her name)did with Bryce on Spider-Man 3?

For villians, I want to see CARNAGE!!!(not the form of dying but the villian)
And return of VENOM!

I wish they would have continued with JJ's son but Man Wolf is a downgrade from Doc Ock.

I'm ok with Carnage, but Venom is so dead.

I think if they bring back the whole cast and Raimi for the sake of the storyline they should be married. Who really wants to see more of the MJ and Peter on and off again stuff. They missed out on the creepyness factor of Venom because they introduced him before MJ and Peter lived together. There are some good elements to them being married.

But for once I agree with Mr 7000+ (which is scary). They should let this franchise rest for a few years and let someone else come in and do a different take. Spidey is by far my favorite comic character and I would hate to see him get played out in the movies like Batman and Superman did.
