Has it been confirmed yet as to whether this film takes place before or after the first X-Men movie?

Any Wolverine stories are probably going to be prequels to 2000's X-Men. Just random points in his life that he doesn't remember.

She has plenty of history with Japan and Japanese characters. Shes been in an asiain body for quiet some time since all the Kwannon stuff. Psylocke was also essentialy trained by the hand, the hand destoryed her british body, she killed Matsu'o Tsurayaba to spare him from Wolverine endlessy torturing him after what he did to Mariko.

Psylocke is a freaking ninja when it comes down to it. With her connections to The Hand, having her in a film that takes place in Japan would be a great choice for introducing her,its an easier way to explain her complicated backstory. Most of her backstory connections come from there and I doubt we will ever see The Hand in another X film. I also highly doubt her start from the Captain Britain family side of things will ever be shown on the screen. Dont think Fox owns the Braddock family besides Betsy. They would need to simplify her regardless of what X Men film she does show up in.

Why do you think Im debating her relation to Cap Britain and comparing her and Logan? Im not doing either. I said she has had history with Logan and the Hand in Japan. Which she does. Her and Logan have been there together. She has also visited Japan because of her Japanese body to re enter her original form. The hand then destroys her British body in an arc which ties to Mariko and Wolverine. With Wolverine fighting Betsy at the end because Matsu'o Tsurayaba wants her to kill him.

A film version of Psylocke is tricky giving her complicated backstory, and she has yet to be introduced as an actual character in X movies, if they were to have her being connected to the Hand that would not be a far cry and rather you think its relevant or not she has indeed traveled there with Wolveirne in the comics and fought the hand there. She would also be put in an environment where she can actually use her combat skills in a place against others with the same martial art skills. Its not out of place for the character in any way. She is directly tied to The Hand. They have had an extreme impact to do with how she fights, looks and has grown as a character. It may have to do with her body switching and Kwannon but that is a huge part of Betsy's Psych and character traits as well, those things cant be ignored as part of her history in comics. Her connection with them still gets mentioned in the most recent book runs. I really dont see how any of that can be looked at as unimportant or not a strong tie for the character, but hey to each their own.

but how will they deal with the idea that he is a man with claws and healing ability? is he the only mutant in the univese that this film is set in? do they call mutants mutants?

it will be a film about wolverine only. but i'm curious what they will do to make it seem like it happens in a separate continuity.

in the original script wolverine is in a canadian jail and a japanese man approaches him telling him he will tell him how he got his claws if he follows him to japan.

should they make his claws alittle different looking this time? more like the comic this time.

Where are you getting this idea that the movie is set in a different continuity? The term 'standalone' merely means that it's not going to reference anything that would have come either before or after it chronologically. Unless there have been specific comments made specifying that they're starting a completely different continuity with the film, there's no reason to assume that it's a separate continuity just because it's a 'standalone' film.

Standalone means just that. It doesn't mean the other **** didn't happen, but that this is a separate story. Like we mentioned earlier, most of Wolverine's stories are like this due to his memory loss. He doesn't even remember most of the adventures he's had over the decades.

^ That's pretty much exactly what I just said. The Wolverine being a standalone story doesn't mean it creates a completely new continuity... unless we've been explicitely told somewhere that James Mangold and the other PTBs behind it intend for it to do so.

If the Hand is in the movie then yes it does. Which was my whole point. If you personally dont like that connection then thats cool but it is there and a big part of her comic history. As far as these movies go having Psylocke being associated with the hand in a film is in tune with the comics. This is all going off If they wanted to add another X Men character to the mix. Which I dont think they do.
