The Wolverine News & Discussion Thread

What I love about Mangold is how passionate he is about this character. That's something you really need for a film like this to succeed. A lot of times when you have an up and comer directing CBM's it's basically just a way for them to get their names out there. Mangold is an already established director, so he doesn't NEED a big film like Wolverine to get noticed. That tells me that he's doing this because he really wants to.

Loving all the stuff he's tweeting (maybe we should start a separate "Mangold's Tweets" thread LOL).

James Mangold‏@mang0ld
Sorry can't answer all the great questions now. Crazy busy with movie. But stay tuned. More info/images from #THEWOLVERINE in days ahead.

@mang0ld is the glass a VFX add in for post or are you just shredding legit glass?

James Mangold ‏@mang0ld
@andreweplotkin Legit tempered glass. Doing are best to make the action real, analogue, hard core old school intense. Actors training hard.

Pictures soon?

Fox is finally learning that the marketing needs to start early I see?

Something just feels right about all this...

Agreed with both of these.

Also, all those tweets have me incredibly excited...bub.

so has it been explained how exactly does FOX have Viper? she's not a mutant, and while she's tangled with wolverine... she's far more associated with captain america, shield, and hydra

Fox and Marvel share a few character rights. Not sure exactly how it works. They will more then likely just drop Hydra connections.

She'll be a mutant, just like Juggernaut. She was featured in this story, under the name Viper, so FOX can use her.

Marvel can use her under her actual name, Madame Hydra.

I have no idea if true or not, or source, but I thought others on here mentioned it was confirmed Wolverine was the only mutant in the film. Not the case?

since when does "because she was in the comic story" mean anything with film? So if the next Daredevil film decides to use the story "Guardian Devil" that suddenly gives them the right to use Mysterio? no.. nor does it give them the right to use "Quentin Beck"

Viper has been featured In Wolverine and X-men comics. Most likely they can use her
as long as her connection to Hydra Is not mentioned.Marvel can use quicksilver and scarlet with as long as they don't mention being mutants or being connected to Magneto.

but that's kinda asinine. by that logic Beast can be an Avenger... and Ms Marvel and Namor can be in an X-men movie...

majority of the Marvel Universe has been featured in an X-men comic... and Mutants in others... the marvel rights didn't magically become some sort of wading pool

You asked, I gave you an answer. Why are you getting in such an uproar over this. They're using Viper because the CAN. The end.

Well for some strange reason Marvel has rights to Cable.Avi Arad said Sony loaned rights to Kingpin to Fox.Somehow Viper was secured by Fox.

Marvel and Fox share rights to Skrulls.Fox has super skrull rights solely but both could use Skrulls.

... i'm not in an uproar. I want "the" answer.. not "your" answer. Marvel's been pretty specific on which characters are "first come first serve" (Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and Skrulls) and the rules behind them...

Viper has never been in that discussion.. nor should we assume anything... considering marvel can't use Galactus and Silver Surfer either... who've been featured in many non-fantastic four comics...

I was curious as to if marvel has answered this because I find it odd, (and i'm not the only one), and wanted to know if there's been any rumblings on information upon it. Not just assumptions.

see i've actually never heard Fox or Marvel say that one.. so i think that's just some weird rumor personally... it pops up time and again, but neither studio has really confirmed anything

Drew from HitFlix likes the first half of the script.

Drew McWeeny ‏@DrewAtHitFix
May not have liked the "Robocop" script at all, but after reading the first half, I'll say I'm all aboard for "The Wolverine."

No, it's just Drew having a way to get these things.

Just to leap in here, there's been no official public answer or statement regarding Viper. The Scarlet Witch/Quicksilver stuff was only clarified when someone asked Kevin Feige about it at a press event, not because a press release was issued.

The assumption is that since Viper is in the film, there must be something that allows use of the character. We don't even know if she will be called 'Viper' in the film.

But, obviously, there are many, many studio conversations and agreements reached that the public never knows about. Studios are under no obligation to tell us everything - which is why the internet is a tangled mass of rumours and lies.

The same question could be asked if the X-Men ever want to show Rogue getting superpowers from Carol Danvers/Ms Marvel or want to include Danvers' mutant identity Binary in the films.

cant have a copy of something no one has lol

anyways anyone shocked lol darren even said he loved the script

In other news, if you ever wondered what Wolverine would have looked like in high school, here you go: :funny:
