There was the rumour of it being based partly on "Birthright" but Snyder has said that it is not based on a specific comic book story/plot.

Goyer never mentioned anything, as long as I know. Everything is based on rumors so far.

I personally don't believe this Metallo rumour, seeing as it came from that little known website saying they knew the plot, when it actually just sounded like the "Secret Origin" storyline.

Snyder and co. have not released any details concerning the plot for Superman.
There are two kinds of rumors: rumors that come from respectable web movie news sites (like superherohype and deadline) and rumors that come from the typical run of the mill movie web sites who make up stories to generate hits to provide income.
Respectable movie news sites don't print BS rumors.
Notice that SHH and some other sites did not carry that fake BS Sam Lane/Metallo plot (no matter how many fanboys provided them with a lead) while others did.
Credibility matters.
Check where your rumors come from and you will soon be able to discern the credibility of a rumor as well as distinguish a real rumor from a I-need-hits-for-my-site-so-I-made-it-up ******** rumor.

That's why I partially blame 'comicbook movies dot com'. Sure they tend to have the best links to news, however, they'll POST anything. Stuff like this, where there's no weight to the rumor.

-The Dark Knight Rises' Joseph Gordon Levitt's role is revealed. But I doubt it IF he's Alberto Falcone, an obscure character. Sneider specified that this news will make people very happy and excited unless Joseph is revealed to be Black Mask or even Robin.

-The Avenger's other villains get cast.

-Wolverine gets a new director.

i think he's gonna take the best parts of the various stories about Superman's origin and combine them. just like Batman Begins wasn't a direct translation of Year One. he just used Year One as the primary basis while utilizing other stories and characters.
