I don't buy the 'production sheet' is because I couldn't find a third act productions listed at 4000 Warner Blvd, maybe it's a dummy name, but I doubt that.

Also, why not just film in West Africa instead of filming in the Middle East if the plot is based in West Africa? It's not like you can't substitute Ghana for Sierra Leone.

The real world reason can be summed up as such: Harry Potter. The studio’s cash cow ends in a couple of weeks, and they need something to replace it. Christopher Nolan is being a bit *****y to them and making sure that his Batman franchise won’t be that moneymaker, since he’s looking to end it with The Dark Knight Rises. There’s hope for The Man of Steel, but the Superman franchise has been tricky at best and as of right now nobody is completely confident in the script they have.

Regarding that completely ridiculous story the other day about a GL sequel in the works, that led to a fanboy making a pipe dream statement, that only a slow child would believe, about no one "being comfortable with the MOS script" -

To each his own, but if there was one superhero movie I found boring, it was SR. Not only because the plot was a partially dull rehash of Superman '78 but because Superman himself was so lifeless. I'd honestly watch GL a hundred times before I'd sit through SR again.

And yet, the irony here is that SR was better received and reviewed by critics than GL was, and I wouldn't be surprised if GL ends up up with a smaller BO return than SR did in the long run.

It might have something to do with the business changing since then too. This is just speculation but it looks to me that the business has been constantly evolving in the past decade. Different factors are probably taken into account now than back in 2006(wow it's been a while). I think a SR sequel was a bit more of a gamble simply because they didn't know what they were doing. Thats not to say that GL isnt still a gamble, but I think they have a different mindset than they did back then.

True; I do agree with that. Honestly, I think a sequel to either SR or GL (at this point) would be weighed down by the cons that were presented by their respective first films. With SR, a person can get into on how Superman’s character wasn’t clearly established (as well as many would have liked him to have been), and that the whole issue of Jason being Superman’s son with Richard White being the only father that he knows and how he’s currently engaged to Lois would have made things very messy to resolve. There are other issues I’m sure, but I won’t get into that here.

Then comes GL, a film that cost 200 Million to make production wise, and a film that will most likely not make that much more than its productions costs. From the bad characterization of characters, to the misusage of the budget on things like a CGI costume, there’s a lot of mess to clean imho.

I think for any franchise to successfully be ignited, the first/frontrunner film has to really do its best on establishing the basic tone and foundation for things to evolve from in the right way.

SR was both critically successful and it made decent money despite what people say. It nearly made 400 million with Zero action and a average cast.


I am not sure what GL's failure has to do with Superman anyway, the general public prolly doesnt even know they are from the same comic company. And these rumors that they arent confident in the script just sounds like a fan's opinion from something they read a few months ago. I just doubt Nolan would attach himself to something he thought was possibly bad. And Jon Peters has nothing to do with this film as well so theres that plus.

I think it made that kind of money just because it was Superman. Once people saw it wasnt a good movie or even a good representation of the characters, the movie didnt make profit to warrant a sequel. Also, the huge budget didnt help.
