That's cool.

Good film. Not quite as good as Drive, but still enjoyable.

Wait... you mean you can watch the film On Demand?

Yes, it's available On Demand.

I bought it on iTunes and really liked it. I'd suggest just buying it if your a Refn fan. The purchase price on iTunes isn't much different than a ticket price.

I'll be buying this this weekend then, closest theater it's playing is over an hour away.

I saw it today in theaters. I have some mixed feelings about it. I don't know if I like it, and I'm not entirely sure if it was good or not. There were moments of greatness, but they were overshadowed by big pockets of nothing. It felt like Refn was trying to make some kind of over the top art film. The extremely slow movements of some of the characters (Gosling and the main villain, I forget the name) became grating after awhile. I dunno, I think I'm gonna have to see it again to crystallize my feelings on it.

Here's my video review for those interested:

I felt like I was watching annoying abstract art and there was nothing to this. Like, it appeared as awesome visual scenes compiled into a 90 minute thing...

I felt the same way. Visually it was great, but there was very little substance.

Another issue I had was Gosling really wasn't in the movie much. In fact, it felt like the only character that got any screen time was the villain cop. It's the fault of the script. None of the characters mattered it seemed. No one was important or did anything of importance.

Everything I hated about Drive times ten.
Felt like the pauses between dialogue were even longer..

"What the **** did I just watch?" - Me after finishing this.

That's because there was no dialogue. I think Schwarzenegger's Terminator had more lines than this entire movie.

No disrespect to those who enjoy or even love this movie(though, how do you love this movie if you do), but I see people deciphering symbolism and meaning behind scenes/characters...

...but I just think people are pulling those artistic assumptions out of their ass. I don't get it.

This movie is actually playing in St. Louis to my great surprise. None of my friends care to see it due to a lot of bad reviews, I may seek it out by myself.

I think it just tried so damn hard to be artistic and whatever that it completely missed the mark. This is definitely a miss. I may change my feelings on it with time or another viewing, but as it stands now I'm not blown away by any means

All readings and interpretations of any artwork have far more to do with what the audience brings to the material.

I could see some symbolism here and there, but it was bogged down by some heavy handed art film stylings. I just watched a brief clip of it on my computer and it's just two characters staring at each other, without saying a word. Cutting out the dialogue works in Drive, because the characters that needed to speak spoke. In this it seemed nobody was talking. You didn't get to really know the characters because how much can you learn from someone who never talks, or does anything but stand and stare?

What did you think of Valhalla Rising? Think of that mixed with Kubrick and Lynch.

Seen it twice now. I love it.

Reading some of the compiled critic reviews this actually seems like a candidate for worst film of the year?

I'm pretty sure sharknados reviews were more forgiving.

Now Now, that distinction belongs to R.I.P.D. Don't take that way from Ryan Reynolds.

That probably is the worst film of the year but my point was how vitriolic some of the reviews for the film were. Some of the critics seemed legitimately angry at the film...well it did get booed at cannes.

Tbh I almost respect a bad film that sort of knows its limits vs a bad film that really thinks it's something else and above it all and is "art". Pretentious bad is really the worst kind of bad in my books.

May i ask somethin to understand where you coming from. Have you seen any other Refn movie , besides Drive ? Because everything i've read from reviews , comments , opinions , etc , is that Refn made a ...Refn movie. Not that it makes it instantly good or anything. I just don't understand the surprise.

I'l be seeing it in two weeks. It finally opens here
