Nicolas Winding Refn's Only God Forgives

Ah yeah, can't wait.

What happened to that better Blu-Ray of Drive Refn was talking about?

No, it doesn't. It's a couple of strong individual scenes (robbery, motel, etc.) and a good lead performance surrounded by inertia and lazy storytelling.

Yeah, no. The party scene has more to it then most films, and that is just a starting point.

Drive pretty much bored me, never got the wankfest over it. This looks like more moody dreariness but the visuals are cool.

:lmao: Damn, never knew we could get away with "wankfest" on here.

As for the trailer, I thought it was very interesting and creepy. I bought Drive on Blu-ray last August and still haven't watched it.

"Wanna fight?"

Drive has a great soundtrack, that's for sure.

Looking forward to this.

Drive is one of the greatest movies ever and the trailer to this film is amazing. I cannot wait for this film.

Seriously, Drive is a masterpiece. Love it so much. It's not supposed to be carried by an elaborate narrative. And that's part of what makes it so fantastic to me, how it's a crime thriller done mostly as a mood piece. Laced with bursts of individually very memorable and strong scenes. The plot is not lazy, it's deliberately thin to get a certain feel and to highlight other things. It's part of the inherent experience. Whether you enjoy said experience or not, or whether your think the execution is worthwhile or not, is a different thing.

This looks similar in many ways sure (silence, Gosling etc.) but in other ways it also feels like a more stylish version of the mood and world in the Pusher films.

Seriously. I held off on buying the Drive blu-ray because of this. What happened? It was supposed to come out this past fall, but it never did. No updates or nuthin'.

Brilliant! And Kristin Scott Thomas... MILF! :yay:

i guess the old guy beats the s... out of him?

Seconded, I admit to being sweeped up by it originally, but in hindsight it's not something I have any desire to re watch.

I don't think Refn's intentions particularly relevant. For atmospheric mood pieces well-done, I would point to most of the works of Roman Polanski. The Ghost Writer is even more beautiful to the senses, while possessing none of Refn's juvenile, hipster disdain (or incompetence) for rhythm and story. What I disliked about Drive was what I perceive to be a conceptual void at its heart. If you're satisfied with it, fine, but Drive only left me impressed with Refn's great potential as a stylist and curious about what he might accomplish with a real script or more substantial drama.

Drive was like the 8th or 9th movie of Refn. He has already accomplished a lot.

Hipster disdain (?!) , juvenile...have you seen his filmography ? Or just is last one ?

This looked like Refn channeling his Seijun Suzuki fandom.

Drive was alright. Didn't particularly like it and this looks the exact same but with some Asian influence. No thank you

I like Drive and Bronson. Valhalla Rising was awful.

I thought Drive was by far the best movie to come out in 2011. I loved it, instant classic. However, this looks more or less the same based off the trailer. There is nothing that seems to distinguish it from Drive besides that it takes place somewhere in Asia. I hope I am wrong, either way I'm seeing it.
