after watching this films trailers and especially drive i want refn to do a sci fi film the dude just understands atmosphere and tone

Refn said that Valhalla Rising was his take on a sci-fi film.

If they've filmed exactly what the 2nd draft of the script was without drastically changing the plot, I can tell you this film will heavily divide audiences. I still don't know how to react to what happens. It's a crushing frustrating suffocating read. It just really goes to places one cannot imagine it would go and the strangest things happen. The level of violence as well in this (at least in the script) makes Drive look like Schoolhouse Rock.

The ending as well is something well I think will really piss a lot of people off. I won't say more but it's really really one hell of an oddball frustrating read. Just don't go with any expectations in your own mind as to how the story should go, you will otherwise come out horribly disappointed and pretty peed off.

Just saw the red band trailer, it looks ok, kinda reminds me of the movies I used to buy from HKL.

I'm really excited to see this anything with Gosling and Refn I'll watch.

Eh 2 movies in a row with this same character for Gosling. I'm already tired of it. Pass.

So... you clearly haven't watched any of Gosling's work since Drive. That is nice. There is also the fact that this doesn't look like the same character.

the awkward moment when your mother is nitpicking the size of her own son's dong in comparison to her other son...

Passing on a Refn film is just wrong. :oldrazz:

And it's like trashing the Dollar Trilogy just cause Clint played the exact same type of character in all three. If it's great it's great.

Drive blew me away insanely much, so I'm actually trying not to expect this to be THAT amazing. But it's getting harder and harder. Aesthetically it looks, if possible, even more pleasing than Drive. The colors, the framing and overall compositioning makes sweet love to my eyes. It's all drenched in entrancing atmosphere.

And that clip with the mother talking to her sons girlfriend is just pure awesome that makes me grin hugely. Scott Thomas seems to be a show stealer in this one.

I watched the clips and that Kristen Scott Thomas one was uncomfortable to watch. Taboo, in the vein of Game of Thrones.

Just from the brief clips it's very obvious that Gosling is playing this quite differently. Subtle but different.

Also, much of the silence in Drive was used to depict an intimacy beyond words. The silence here is incredibly uncomfortable. This is my #1 anticipated movie of the year, no question.

Yeah, he exudes much more coldness here than in Drive to me.

Watched the clips they were great.

The shootout/chase one was awesome.

The dinner scene was so uncomfortable to watch. Brilliantly shot and acted though. Kristen Scott Thomas is amazing. She's like a modern, female Tywin Lannister.

After watching that scene, I have to ask... is there some sort of incest subplot in this? I really hope not. Eww.

it could be that the mom is just a sociopath but then again, Gosling's character doesn't say crap to her so obviously the family is screwed up.

True. He's clearly able to handle himself so the fact that he doesn't say sh** to her when she's ripping him and his girlfriend to pieces right in front of them says a lot about the kind of power she holds.

They are mafia family so like most movie criminal familes they are probably dysfunctional.

I'm definitely getting tragic shakespearean family vibes from the movie.

If thre is any actress that will b awesome at playing female crimelord its Kristen Scott Thomas.
