I didn't think it lived up to my expectations or the hype. Anyone else agree/ disagree?

Totally agree! This movie turned out to be such an incomprehensible mess, I wanted to shoot people in the face!! Aside from some rather inventive subtitles, there's nothing about this movies that's very interesting. It's slow, disjointed, poorly-shot, and ends in such way as to feel far too incomplete, Even with trilogies, there should be a sense of finality to each film. Each film should serve a purpose while telling a larger story, and Night Watch fails at doing that. And on top of all that, the main character, Anton, is a selfish prick!!
It's hard to feel for a guy who tries to use magic to kill his unborn child!! To say nothing of the poor setup of the 12 year-old he was trying to protect ending up being said unborn child. Gee, I didn't see that one coming!!
I don't see what anyone saw in this movie, and I feel cheap for thinking it would be cool and innovative. Outside of Ultraviolet, I can't think of the last time I saw a film so shockingly derivative and boring.

I loved the film. I thankfully didnt read a lot of the hype, but i think all those who didnt like it might like it better when the trilogy finishes.

I kinda agree with KenK that there should have been some kind of closure. I understand you had something against the twist with the child (it was pretty transparent from the start), but i thought the curse twist
where Nightwatch was trying to cure the curse from the woman when it was her who cursed her. That was pretty good

Those are pretty much my feelings also.

So what did you like about it or think was original?

I just enjoyed it. I like those types of supernatural-styled movies.

I think that there are good elements to the story:
1) I dont think Anton was selfish, I saw him as tragic and flawed.
2) I liked the Pr. X/Magneto relationship the leaders of the dark and light had.
3) I like these types of movies and i didnt read a lot of the hype. I saw the trailer, so i saw the movie.
4) I liked the cursed woman aspect of the movie was original (at least the outcome)

Its not without flaws but it still left me wanting to see more of the trilogy. Maybe saying I loved the movie is an exagerration, but with everyone syaing they hated even on other boards, I thought i'd step up and say I liked it. I enjoyed it.

I thought it was an amazing film.

I thought the film was ok, i see it as a part of an on going story this ones just setting it up for the other 2, so they better be amazing OR ELSE!

and it had some pretty cool effects for a "Low budget" film

It was visually stunning, it did a great job of conveying the tone, the story was great (even though you could see the
bit about the kid being his
from a mile away), and it was just overall well done.

I've just finished watching it and I thought it was pretty damn good. It's true you could see the twist about the kid a mile away but I still really enjoyed it.

Is it true that the third movie is being made in America with an American cast?

^^^I dont know about that one. I really like the cast right now

Yeah, me too. But I could've sworn I read that somewhere.

I just read that the 3rd will be in English, nothing about the cast though, i would like it to be kept in Russia

I liked the fact that if gave an old and tired plot and story, a pretty nice spin and came out with something amusing, entertaining and most of all pretty compelling in many different way
which is way more than what the usual hollywood movie does for me

is this out on DVD yet?

i remember being reasonably interested in seeing it.

Yes, I paid 14.99 and I at least was disappointed.

The third one is being made partially in America and will be in English. Apparently, it's the biggest departure from the books.

Hey what are the exact title of the books?

They translate to Night Watch, Day Watch, Dusk Watch (that's the name of the movie; the Russian title translates to Twilight Watch), and Final Watch. The transliterated titles are Nochnoi Dozor, Dnevnoy Dozor, Sumerechniy Dozor, Posledniy Dozor.

KenK pretty much nailed it... this movie's horribly overrated. :down

Glad 2 people agreed with me. I was starting to think I was wrong.

Which never happens!!! No really it doesn't, except about half the time. :)
