Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

http://www.superherohype.com/news/supermannews.php?id=9101

All this talk about the WB going with a reboot, now this news about no reboot. I don't like that we are not getting a reboot, I want to be introduced to this new Superman, not just thrown in my face like Brandon Routh....

Since there is no origin, you can't consider this a reboot in my opinion. A reboot is a restart, which this is not

Huh, it sounds like a reboot to me. Just not an origin reboot.

What are you talking about? This is totally a reboot.

No Routh
No Singer

Just not an origin reboot. He is established. I'm sure there will be references here and there to his origin. But yea, this is a total reboot, bring it on!

It is getting rebooted, just not restarted.

did you not read the article? at all? i mean, this is baffling.

I'm just glad even studio heads wanted to cut through the BS and just give us a straight up Superman adventure

A reboot doesn't have to be a restart.

Exactly Showtime. This is a reboot of the franchise not the character.

In an alternate world where Burton's Batman existed after Nolan's, would you not consider B89 to be a reboot? It has NO connection with the previous material, in cast, crew, or story.

Where the story begins has no consequence as to it's role as the beginning of a new franchise. This is reboot all the way.

Can a mod change the thread title than if it's confusing? Change it to "No Origin.... Confirmed by Latino Review"

I think reboot and restart is the same thing. When we all here were talking about reboots, we were thinking about the WB making a movie about the origins.

I think WB is making another mistake with this one. People don't want to see Superman without knowing the man behind the suit, which is what we loved about Christoper Reeves, we see him becoming Superman.

Reboot and restart are not the same thing. People already know Superman and his story, and it doesnt exactly rule out a quick origin like in TIH,which is all thats necessary IMO

You can learn about a character without seeing his origin. In fact we've seen too many Superman stories that explain exactly how he came to be but very few that explored the character.

The Incredible Hulk was a reboot that wasn't an origin story. Casino Royale rebooted the Bond franchise, and even though we see him granted OO7 status we still don't know anything about how the character came to be.

I'm sure they will show his origins in some fashion, probably through flashbacks. The basic tenents of Superman will still be there but it will be tweaked. This is totally a reboot. It has no connection to the Reeve or Routh movies.

If people already know Superman and his story, aren't people going to be confused with a new actor playing Superman, without his origins.

No not at all because they know the origin of SUPERMAN not Brandon Routh. You dont give enough credit to the audience. Theyre not stupid. Most know Supermans story. Plus, they'll probably show a couple flashbacks in the credits.

A few months ago, it was all the rage to bash the idea of not having an origin story, but now people are starting to change their tune.

That little snippet sounds good to me so far.

We will be introduced to this new Superman. Now thankfully it will just be less time to see him in action. Who knows they could be taking this route to skirt some of the legal issues surrounding Supes and his origins.

Hearing that they are setting up a huge Kryptonian mythology sounds awesome!! I am all for injecting some scifi into the new film. They will probably introduce some new info/elements regarding Krypton and it's destruction. Maybe there will be a possible Brainiac connection as well. :cwink:

A little iffy on Goyer, but I imagine his won't be the only hands who touch the script. He can handle the story, but IMO needs someone else to polish dialog. I'm on board with them getting their Bryne on with the restart though----corporate Lex, et al bring it on!

All in all very excited to hear movement on the film front.

I am bummed that Brandon Routh won't get the chance to reprise his role. He was an excellent Superman, IMO. But at the same time, I am excited at the news that we are going to be getting a new Superman movie, and one that hasn't been done on film yet. As a HUGE Superman fan, the news really excites me. Glad to hear that there is movement on the Superman front.

It's legit. I wouldn't pay attention to that AICN piece.

I think you'll still have some fans angry about the lack of an origin. Lol. Seriously though ,if this rumor does pan out , it wouldn't suprise me.

Smallville is still on the air and they've pretty much done Superman's origin backwards and forwards. I can see them not wanting to do that. Plus you have the Donner film which did it pretty well and the last thing they wanna do is basically remake that structure wise i.e Krypton, Smallville, then in the last 3rd go into a Superman story.

If true, This new angle accomplishes several things, amoung them:
1) The story hits the ground running with an established universe ala Batman 89,
2) They don't have to cover the Millar/Gough or Donner stuff concerning origins and beginnings
3)We have the Lex that fans have basically been asking for
4) We have a superpowered villan and we have a Superman ready to go into action without waiting a half an hour before he suits up for the first time.

It sounds like a reboot to me but I'm disappointed it's not going to be an origin story reboot.

If WB hadn't been so ridiculous I could have gotten my origin reboot in 2006...oh well. Whats done is done. I'll accept this disappointment and move on. Atleast it's not another sequel to Donner's flicks.

It didny say it isnt a reboot. Sure with what was said there it could be taking a broad approach at things. For me personally i do want to see a clean and full reboot and no more piggbacking off the other films or what not. But since he was just hired for what we know. who knows how the script will turn out if/when we get to filming stages. The story could easily change. But hopefully it will be clearly a new start and we have some origin told.
