Notre Dame Cathedral on fire

Was watching MSNBC when this broke. It looks like it is going to burn down completely at this point.

There has been a pattern in France with Catholic churches. People have been reporting on the vandalism or destruction on this for months. This just happens to be the most renown church.

Man, I haven't ever been and now I regret it that does come to pass.
It's insane. It was smoke to start, but now it basically looks like a wildfire on the roof.

There has been some chatter that this might have to do with renovations they have been doing on the cathedral. But what is even crazier is that it does not look like anyone is trying to put it out. It's just been burning, and burning, and burning.

lol, yeah, and there's "no reason" to claim renovations, either.

We're just talking here. :hehe:

I was just repeating some of the talk they are having on television as I watch. Clearly no one knows what happened yet. This is just a disaster though. It looks so bad.

I guess they're either trying to evaluate it or just saying let it burn because they can't deal with it. It's gonna be hard as hell watching the Disney version after this due to the similarities.

Yeah, that is one bad fire. Not looking good for the Cathedral.

That is just history lost to the ages

I guess. The initial effort seemed to be to make sure everyone was safe, which is exactly what they should have done. But doesn't seem to be they have even used any water yet.

And the spire is gone. That was a trademark thing to see. It sucks but this is gonna be one of those historical things you can say you saw when people ask.

I can't believe what I am watching at this point. The flames, it's so intense.

Apparently firefighters on the ground are being told to just let the fire burn itself out at this point.

This. Very much this. Going to be one of the biggest regrets of my life not traveling when I had to chance.

A tragic loss.

Listening to some of the news, it sounds very unsafe to get to the source of the fire.

Watching this on MSNBC right now....and Tom Brokaw finally explained a point that I haven't heard anyone else say (I admitedly haven't been glued to the news but more having it in the background)....I've hear several people for awhile saying it is hard to get water to the building (and I was wondering why)....he says it is built on an island in the river, so it is hard to get the fire fighting equipment to it.
