Now you see, now you don't: Christopher Eccleston as Claude Character Discussion

Oh come on, you must be able to tell the difference between Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and Newcastle accents. They're so different it isn't funny! :p

You should go to an American school or at least talk to one of there "English" Teachers. The have the worst gramar ever. They can't spell either always with there "Theaters" (Theatre) and "Meters" (Metres) and "Centers" (Centres).

Yeah, now I can but for a couple of days I got confused, being a usless southerner. :whatever: You're right they are pretty different.

Back to the character. The new preview on the website sounds like he might be using his naturalish accent, but since there was only one line its hard to tell.
Also looks like Peter is the only one how can see him- because he picked up the same ability? Which could be kind of interesting

that was intentional

when America became its own country, we wanted to set ourselves apart from Great Britain
so we "American-ized" the English language with new spelling

watch him get killed off for being so awesome....

I don't think they will kill him off.. it would be a bad move.

Alot of TV Shows/Movies/Comics will kill off a likeable character to build suspense and whatnot. I think its a bad move too, but you never know....

I'm sure what ever the producers decide this will be a very memorable character. I only hope he will stay alive long enough to show other heroes how to control their abilities.

Different reports seem to have his character being in a handful of episodes to the rest of the season, but my guess would be shorter rather than longer. If [BLACKOUT]Peter is the only one who can see him as it seems in the promo and that continues to be the case, then it kind of limits the storyline after he has been sucessfully mentored[/BLACKOUT] and then dies in the traditional mentor manner, but I'm just guessing about that.

I didn't think of it that way. In absorbing Claude's ability, Peter is somehow able to counteract it and see him.

I'm still unsure as to how Claude becomes the mentor. Claude is unshaven, not seen by anyone in a long time, and seemingly a bit all over the place. It seems like Peter is the mentor if anything.

Reports about the character from the writers and producers all say he's come to terms with it, but that doesn't mean he isn't shocked when someone sees him for the 1st time in god knows how long, probably.

There was only a couple of shots in the promo, Peter being the only one to see him is possibly only what it looks like, we'll have to wait and see how it pans out a bit more before we can say anything too definite.

I've never watched doctor who but i think this guy looks like he can be like christian bale and be awesome!

the mentor always dies.....or betrays his student
i'm betting on the first one

Doctor Who probably wouldn't give you a great indication. Doctor Why is generally very happy-go-lucky. Some slapstick moments. It seems like Claude is going to be a much more somber character.

Nothing wrong with an English hero at all. I just don't want him to be the stereotypical English guy that tends to appear in US dramas, ie a bit of a toff. Very few people in England are like that. We have an incredible amount of diversity in terms of culture.
Chin up, old chap! I'm sure the old boy will do a smashing job!

:cmad:

From the sounds of the trailer, he won't be that kind of English guy anyway, for which I am relieved.

This may be dumb but who is Claude? I don't remember him from any of the episodes. Is all of this just speculation from the promo?

^

Claude hasn't featured in an episode yet. We know from the spoilers and episode guides he will be an invisible man who will act as a mentor to Peter. It seems, for now at least, Peter could well be the only person to be able to see Claude.

On a side note, Eccleston was on an ITV drama last night about a family trying to get their child into a high performing Catholic girls school, which all goes terribly wrong. He's a bloody good actor.
