It saddens me to know how great some of these series were. Until they had to make an infinitive number of sequels to all of them.

For me it's hard to choose just one particular horror film you know? Exorcist, Halloween, Childs Play, Nightmare on Elm Street, and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre all freaked me out when I first saw the films.

But if I had to choose just one? I'd have to say Halloween too. That was truly the first film that actually scared me. The music, Michael's breathing, the fact that he knew how to drive, and the overall atmosphere made me literally sleep with the lights on.

The original Amityville Horror and When A Stranger Calls also scared me as well.

I like movies that are scary, but not slasher films. I like to be on the edge of my seat, but I don't like anything demonic or anything with chainsaws. They're all old but Child's Play, Halloween, When a Stranger Calls .. all of those scared me but weren't too gory.

This thread deserves many sexy replies...

so...pity bump #2...

John Carpenter's Halloween.

It's not necessarily just a poll, but a discussion where you can chime in about anything relating to horror films.

If that helps get this thread going more. Where's everyone's holiday spirit? :)

Oh and here's a great vid from AJ Johnson (hitmanyr2k on here) WARNING: Graphic Violence...so don't watch it if you're squeamish...

The Exorcist, for me. Other than J-horrors, this is probably the only film that still scares me. Watching it at a young age scarred me for life.

I used to be afraid of Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellraiser II, but I got over my fear of Pinhead and the Cenobites. Now, I enjoy them because apart of me actually enjoys Clive Barker-type horror. As for the slasher films, I enjoy me some Freddy (A Nightmare on Elm Street, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors), Michael (Halloween, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers), and Jason (Friday The 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter, Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives). While most of their sequels are horrible films, I still enjoy watching them with friends (particularly Jason). We also can't forget the classic Universal monsters, too.

Oh yeah, Halloween is my favorite time of the year. My birthday is 4 days before Halloween, and I loves me some horror films. :)

John's Halloween..

DAMN YOU TO HELL ZOMBIE!!!! :cmad:
Zombies was okay. The motivation for Michael being crazy kinda' sucked tough. It was better when you jsut see him as a crazy kid who kills his family and then cut straight to him escaping. makes him seem more hollow to begin with rather than becoming a shallow person who can be dealt with (the doctor pleading with Michael and Michael not killing his sister straight away).

I find the original Halloween a brilliant film, but as a franchise? Eh. I mean, how good can a slasher franchise really be? Same with The Exorcist and Amityville Horror. The originals were masterpieces and the sequels were just not needed. I guess I'll go with the old Universal Monsters. Not really a franchise, but as a whole those movies are better than most actual franchises.

I see Halloween the same as RoboCop. a good stand alone film that detatches itself from the franchise.

The Fly and The Thing. Awesome movies from awesome directors!

I hated John Carpenter's The Thing. Give me Christian Nyby's The Thing From Another World any day  That film gets no love :(

Yeah, both movies were so different I doubt Carpenter's version can even be called a remake. That's cool, we both like the different movies for the different reasons. By the way, any of you John Carpenter fans ever read the short story "Who Goes There?" It's the story The Thing is based on.

Excellent short story.
