Off To California: Any Ideas?

Have you never noticed one of the running jokes of Hollywood is how absolutely everyone down there has got a script to submit and wants to become a famous Hollywood actor.

I'm being negative here but you don't seem to have much more going for you than hope, and that won't get you much further than a drug addiction and unwanted buttsex.

that wasnt what i was trying to say. i know there are rejections, i understand. but this is a dream, i can try. im trying to be nice enough by asking people and all you do is avoid the positives and shoot back to negatives. it is not impossible

From what I've heard, in Hollywood it's all about the connections, ie you know someone who is a friend of someone important, and you can get through easier that way. If you are going to go from door-to-door or audition-by-audition, expect to face alot of rejections. Even today's A-list actors have had to go through the same thing before they were famous, and most of them had to do soap operas and B-movies before they got their big breaks. It's great that you're going to go for your dreams, but like C.Lee said, one does not simply walk into Mordor. If you would do some research and find out more about what it takes to make it before you go to Hollywood, I think it will help you alot more than just show up there and expect results.

How about a time machine movie? 1 or 2 people go back in time to do stuff, and then when they return to the present, things are different.

funny you should say that: i had an idea about a year ago called "Time Runner: Author of Counter Earth". its set on the date 12/21/2012 (supposed end of the world) and they send the first time traveler to the beginning of time to discover the true start of the universe. the result ends up throwing all of history off course and sending it into a different dimension. Time Runner is a local of Counter Earth, the new home after the twist in time. He has no history of his past or who he was and believes the man from regular Earth when he says he does not belong here. So, Time Runner gradually goes through each point in time, fixing what needs to be fixed. And he runs into something that reveals who he truely is, but in the end, its his decision to return Earth to its normal state or send it into yet another version of Counter Earth. i wont spoil that part

like i said, i wasnt going to just jump into it. im not an idiot, i know the consequences

Are you really going to California with nothing but the dream of being an actor and a handful of script ideas? I wish the best of luck to you on that journey, you're gonna need all you can get lol.

For serious I recommend you audition for stuff locally and start acting before you make the move so you can put together an audition reel to show you have some credibility. If you've got the chops it will help you get work.

However if it all falls through, turn to gay porn.

hahaha i wasnt being in detail enough, thats my fault. i do perform in my local theater and did take Theatre Arts I and II in high school, i do stand-up at our music hall, i went to improv camp, and i did Communication Systems and did a short film called "Inevitable Pursuit for Sanity", which was a sort of Shutter Island/Nightmare on Elm Street type of thing. it was fun

Yeah, that's sounds really cool.

I always had an idea for a movie about the mafia and like doing about the head of a mafia as he struggles against other family heads in CA.

that sounds pretty cool, i never saw "The Godfather" believe it or not, but i do watch Sopranos every now and then. thats an area i will have to look into a lot more

Why am I reminded of Dirty Steve's repeated quip about Billy in YOUNG GUNS?

Best bet is meet up with YouTube stars & intern with them. KassemG for example. These guys are the future. YouTube spends money to keep guys like him.

ive looked into Youtube recently, but recent to where im still waiting for a reply. i thought about contacting Scott McClure, the guy who did The Joker Blogs and the snowman samurai short film

do you guys want samples of what i can do? i can voice record and/or film something small

i just noticed there was only one guy who threw out an idea. LOL

My advice is much the same as the sensible advice already posted, don't go out there, you will be eaten alive.
At least give yourself a few years in your own backyard, making short films/videos, writing your own screenplays, getting better at acting in the local workshops or theatres.
Concentrate on your own screenplays, your own original ideas, there is not much point submitting speculative scripts for already existing characters, yeah, some spec scripts are picked up by studios, but I think it's rare.

Sure, do your fan fiction scripts, any kind of writing will help your writing skills, but don't just think up ideas of your own and put them on the backburner while you do your fan fiction, actually put a lot of your writing time into your own original scripts. If anything is going to get you anywhere it will be a good original script, because producers are always on the lookout for good scripts.

Just spend your time right now making yourself a better artist, as folk have said, making a showreel and a portfolio of scripts.

I live in California(Culver City)and I have a few movie ideas, too.I need to find a good script writer and maybe if all goes well, they can be made into movies.

Knight Rider--a script needs to be real good,if anyone can make a movie out of it.

There are literally millions of people in Hollywood trying to become actors, if you're serious about this, stay in your hometown and try to be the "big fish in a small pond". Meet people, volunteer in theaters, indie films, read books on everything industry related and basically completely immerse yourself in the industry there as best you can. Then hopefully you'll make some connections that will help you get your foot in the door in Hollywood. My .02.

Best of luck.

This is essentially what I am doing.

hey guys, ive decided im going to head out to California in a couple months to see about becoming an actor. I was wondering if you guys wanted me to bring a couple ideas for films you'd like to see in the future to show or write up a screenplay. ive been noticing people are becoming dissappointed by the new films coming out so i wanted to at least get your guy's ideas as a start. I've already done "David and Goliath" for a start. so if you happen to think of anything, let me know because i'd be happy to devote to it. Thanks!

Awww, you're just a bright eyed kid with a dream in your heart, aren't you? Bless.

Aw, I thought this was going to be more of a "I'm taking a vacation to california what should I do out there" Kind of thread. Those answers are simple, San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Disney Land, Knotts Berry Farm, Sight see Hollyweird, then head north for San Francisco for a few days, but be sure to stay away from Oakland.

The real thread though, like so many before me, stay the f away. Any preperation you think you got, you are unprepared. Hollywood sucks. Los Angeles sucks. Its super expensive and there are a million more little bright eyed kids exactly like you.

Or don't, I don't really care.

Don't forget the wine vineyards in Napa.
