why do Nintendo release a new Zelda game at the very end of a console departure?

It will still sell, and so will the Wii even after the new system comes out. The Wii will drop in price and they'll still get sales. The new game will no doubt play on the "new" Nintendo also. It's a win-win. Holding the game back will only make it look (possibly) sub-par to the new system, whatever that may be.

They wouldn't hold Skyward Sword back what will probably be a full year just to release it on WiiU... they learned their lesson from doing that with TP.

It better not be necessary anyway as a launch title... if Nintendo learned anything this year it's not to rush a system out just to do it. Retro Studios announced months ago they were working on a big game for WiiU that "everyone wanted them to do"... so I'm betting that's a return to Metroid and it'll be a launch title.

Rumors are that Retro's Wii U title is a sequel to Eternal Darkness.

It's pretty surprising they put Zelda on the cover. Not counting anniversary issues or other special issues, the last Japanese game Game Informer had a cover story on was Blue Dragon in 07. The last Nintendo published game was Metroid Prime 2 in 04, and the last Nintendo developed game was Yoshi's Story in 98.

25th Anniversary of the series AND the next big game in the series... not too surprising. That's a big deal.

Saw this on Facebook earlier... I want that cover as a poster, right now. That is awesome

I can't wait to get Skyward sword and the Gold Wiimote

I just got the Collector's Edition of Ocarina of Time in the mail yesterday :)

I didn't know that was a collector's edition thing. I just thought all the carts in the first run were gold.

I remember my box saying collectors edition, and having the Gold Cartridge....but maybe there was something else added but I don't remember it.

I thought the same too Soapy, I thought it was with half of the first launch back in 98. I remember I did not pay any additional for it when it launched. Even though most 64 games were like 70 bucks. But with that game it was worth every penny and then some.

I remember looking in catalogs and seeing Super NES games for 70 bucks or more, the Super NES itself going for like $300... even today, catalog prices are ridiculous. I was looking in one we got in the mail the other day, and they were selling Wii's for $250... when you can go to Target and get the Wii Mario Kart bundle for $130. Xbox 360 and PS3 were still at $400 and $500.

epic mickey had a cover too.

Did Nintendo publish that?

Edit. In Japan. Whatever, my point still stands. Nintendo covers have been few and far between the last 10+ years.

So happy with my Wii right now...... because when I traded it and all 7 of my games in, i got about 500 bucks worth of in-store credit. It paid for ALL of my pre-orders. I knew it was good for something...

Er? Wii's only trade in for like 40 bucks here.

Eb had this awesome sale where you got like 40% extra from trade ins if it was going towards a pre-order, plus i had my edge card which gives me an extra 15% from trade ins. Pretty happy.

I never play my Wii anymore, way I figure it if I stuck with Nintendo I'd only end up buying the Wii U anyway, so may as well sell the Wii whilst it was valuable and get the Wii U further down the line.

Ah, I often forget he's an Aussie.

Yeah, those deals are the only time I trade stuff in anymore. We often get an addition 50% here... but it's only like once or twice a year.
