I really hope this game doesn't have a slow-as-hell start. That is what ruined any chance of me replaying Twilight Princess.

You gave up on Twilight Princess because of the start? Man, what a waste.

I didn't think the start was that bad. I played it 3 times, twice on the Wii, once on the GC. It's more replayable than Wind Waker which has unnecessary stealth early on and the horribly tedious Triforce fetch quest right in the middle.

Who said gave up? I said I never replayed it. I beat the game, and wanted to play it all over again. But having to got through an hour of little tasks and introductory bs all over again was a dealbreaker.

Zelda games either let you get into the main story/game very quickly (Link's Awakening) or had preliminary stuff at the beginning that was truly worth going through (ALttP). TP failed to keep me interested in fishing and herd-wrangling.

Ah, my bad, I misread 'replaying' as 'playing' :P

I found Wind Waker to be far more replayable than Twilight Princess. It had a lot of tedious moments, but it's soooooo much better than Twilight Princess.

That said, I just got started with Skyward Sword. It's so far shaping up to be one of the best Zelda titles. It takes the best of what worked with the Wind Waker and Twilight Princess along with it's own innovations. The art style is the perfect blend of the previous two console Zelda titles, the controls work great, and the story has started off beautifully.

What made Mario so successful (and famous) was bundling the games with the consoles. They just need to have the games ready for launch come next console.

Granted, Super Mario World would have still sold millions, but being bundled with the Super Nintendo helped both the game and the console sales.

Remember when they launched the Gamecube with Luigi's Mansion? That didn't help.

Very true.

man......been reading the reviews of Skyward Sword.........

I'm really tempted to get a Wii for this.........

The art style is a bit overwhelming at first, or the colors are anyway... Probably because I was playing Twilight Princess earlier, with its drab colors. It's quite impressive at night though.

What stands out the most so far is the music.

I have mixed opinions on the actual gameplay / controls. The sword mechanics are complex, but it's rather annoying to not be able to swing the sword while running.

So I've played to right before entering the first temple. I think the game so far does seem pretty different from the last couple in the series. Skyloft is much bigger than the opening cities in the past games and you so have a lot to explore right off the bat. Things like the energy meter, upgrading weapons, no more night and day changes (as far as I can tell so far, time only changes if you go to sleep) as well as the landscape which seems more Mario-like, go a long way towards making this feel different than past Zelda games. And the control scheme I think has changed a lot (although it's been awhile since I've played TP so I may be wrong). All of this, along with the swordplay and flying, make the learning curve somewhat steep, but that's okay, I'm sure I'll get used to it.

The art style is pretty great so far. I don't know about the story yet though. I like some parts, like the characterization and the fact that you start off as a knight, but I haven't really gotten to the crux of the story yet.

Yeah, I'm surprised about that. I think they added that in TP, so I'm surprised they would back track here. The swordplay does take some getting used to. But so far I appreciate the fact that they try to get the player more involved in combat. It keeps you attentive when you're battling and actually takes advantage of the Wii Motion controls.

Just started Faron woods. I feel like I need a walkthrough in case I missed something or an upgrade.

Definitely need more items to upgrade my shield.

I would play the game more but I hate having to drawn batteries. I wish a classic controller was an option. Have to limit myself to 1 to 2 hours.

Well, they had to get rid of some things to make the new system work, but it does take a while to get used to. I have a few issues with the system. Though, it does make the game more engaging. Shielding is actually fun.

I haven't made up my mind on the art style. At first I thought it was too bright, but it works better once you're out of Skyloft. Kind of ironic since a lot of people complained that Twilight Princess was too dark.

1 to 2 hours? Sounds like you just need to stop buying ****** batteries.

Oh yeah, he shield thing is another thing that makes it feel very different. It not something you take for granted anymore and you actually have to use it (with the shield bashing). It's great that the remote is the sword and the nunchuk is the shield. I wonder if they have parry attacks in this game like that did in WW and TP. I thought those were good.

I think the brightness of the game took me aback too at first. I just recently played OOT (on 3DS) and this is much brighter than that. But it is probably just as colorful as WW.

That giant whale thing looks really cool:up:

Have played this game for 4 hours now and it's great. I still have to reach the first dungeon or real temple (not counting the one with the old lady [spoilers]that will turn out to be Impa[/spoilers])

The only thing I'm having trouble with is that my shield breaks so quickly. :-(
I'd love to have an indestructable shield like in the previous games (okay, Ocarina had a burning wooden shield if hit by fire, but at least it didn't break.... I think I have to get used to this change).

And I have the feeling that the batteries dies more quickly with the motion plus fully being used.

The town in the sky is already so big that I have a feeling that I have missed many things there. But fortunately I can always go back. This feels like a huge game!!

After your first temple you get to by the iron shield which is much stronger

Starting out in Faron Woods...its insanely amazing...beautiful colors, the lands, the people, everything...music is great...question though...anybody have any idea if and when the "overworld theme" that we all know and love shows up? dying to hear it....

Well maybe i'm just being Stingy. They're brand new Energizers. I'm sure I can play longer. 1 to 2 hours is probably exaggerating on my behalf:)

I played for about 5 hours with the batteries that came with the remote and they seem to be fine so far.

I have the nyko rechargable packs...will they work on the wii plus remote?

OK, I've played a marathon of SS. I gotta say, I like it, but the WiiMotionPlus controls are killing it for me. I really would like this game much more without them. The standard TP Wii controls (MotionPlus-less) are sorely missed.
