Miyamoto And Aonuma Discuss The Storytelling In Breath of the Wild . February 17, 2017 . 9:30am

Game Informer has been featuring month-long coverage for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild all this month, and the latest part of their coverage is now available. This time, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and producer Eiji Aonuma sit down to discuss the role that narrative plays in the upcoming Zelda game.

Additionally, Aonuma also hints at a “trick” he devised about 20 years ago that he finally got to implement in Breath of the Wild. He last teased this idea in a previous article from Game Informer.

You can watch the whole interview in the following video.

Back while waiting for Pokemon Sun & Moon I watched a video series from Gnoggin with some theory crafting about the story. There were atleast 2-3 others in the Pokemon thread talking about the videos as well. He was right, and wrong about various things, but the series got me hyped for the lore of Pokemon more than I usually get.

So with all that said, he did a video about current theories on where Zelda BoTW fits in the split timeline. He debunks a few things, and adds a few other ideas. Either way I enjoyed it, and it got my creative thinking flowing towards Zelda. Personally, I'd really like it if the theory he tosses in at the end is true. If anything, it'd feel like it's writing a wrong where the 3 timelines originally split.

By that I mean the Ocarina of Time Link gets the shaft. He dies in one timeline. Ceases to exist in the one where Zelda sends him back, but the timeline continues forward. Then in the child timeline he has all of his heroic deeds erased, and dies on the battlefield as a well known soldier, but not as the hero of time. So if, big if, that's Ocarina of Time Link being brought back to life, it'd be justice for the character, IMO.

Zelda Artists On Not Using The Realistic Graphics In The Spaceworld 2000 Tech Demo For A GameCube Title. February 19, 2017 . 3:30pm

In the new Zelda: Art & Artifacts art book, two artists shed some light onto what became of the tech demo debuted at Spaceworld 2000 and why Nintendo ultimately went in a much different direction with Wind Waker.

42 comments Read >

Back at Spaceworld 2000, a videogame trade show hosted by Nintendo, the company revealed a tech demo of a confrontation between a realistic looking Link and Ganondorf. However, this ended up never becoming anything but a tech demo, and the next game Nintendo released a few years later in the Zelda series was Wind Waker which boasted a much more cartoonish style and cel-shaded graphics.

Now, with the release of the new Zelda: Art & Artifacts art book, an interview with artists Yoshiki Haruhana and Satoru Takizawa has shed a bit more light on wait became of that tech demo from Spaceworld 2000. [Thanks, NintendoEverything.]
Before we get into how Toon Link came to be, let’s talk about the promotional footage from the 2000 event. It featured a realistic Ganondorf and Link fighting with each other. The footage was created by Haruhana-san and Takizawa-san, correct?

Haruhana/Takizawa: Yes.

And everyone who saw that footage believed that the new Zelda title coming out for the GameCube would be realistic looking. So tell us: what happened?

Haruhana: Well, as we created that footage, we came to the realization that the realistic route wasn’t the way to go.

Takizawa: [nods deeply]

So it was creating that footage that made you realize the realistic route wasn’t the right course?

Haruhana: That’s right. We were asking ourselves, “If this the right direction to go? and “Does realistic equal a good game?” At the time, as the console’s hardware specs went up, many games were heading in a more photorealistic direction.

They were.

Haruhana: And, at that time, when I was flipping through a game mag, all I saw were really similar-looking games, and I began to worry we would be making one of them. So we thought about what we needed to do with our art to make it stand out. How could we make the readers of that magazine stop and look at our project? We decided that making a realistic Ganondorf and Link wasn’t it…

So you felt that a realistic-looking Zelda would be lost in the sea of many other games?

Haruana: Right. So we cleared our heads of everything and thought about all the other games in the Zelda series. Toon Link came out of process.

not that anyone will like this explanation but this is what was said about dlc for breath of the wild

Nintendo’s Bill Trinen Explains Why Zelda: Breath of the Wild Will Be Getting DLC. February 20, 2017 . 8:00am

When asked why Nintendo made the decision to create DLC, Trinen noted the company’s desire for players to keep exploring and keep enjoying the massive world of Hyrule.

Last week, Nintendo announced that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild would be getting an “Expansion Pass” for $19.99 when the game launches on March 3, with two sets of DLC that will be available later on in the year. However, not all of the reactions to the announcement have been favorable.

During a recent interview on the latest episode of IGN’s Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, Nintendo’s Bill Trinen stopped by to talk a bit about the Switch, and the question of the Breath of the Wild DLC came up. When asked about the fans’ reaction to the additional content and why Nintendo felt the game needed DLC, Trinen explained with the following response:
“It was tough, because we actually had a lot of debate in terms of do we announce it, how do we announce it. I think one of the things that’s unique about the way Nintendo develops games is when we’re working on a game, and certainly just knowing the history of Nintendo games, you guys know that it’s essentially we use every last minute to make the game as good as we possibly can, and really what that means is that the dev team was working on the main game, finished the main game, and as they’re starting to get to the very end and wrap it up, really they said, ‘You know we’ve made this massive world of Hyrule, we’ve spent a long time building it.

It would be a waste to just make one game and have that be it.’ We want people to be able to enjoy exploring this world, and so they started thinking about, ‘Well, if we were going to do DLC, what would we do, how would we do it?’ And you can see that in the fact that it’s not… the DLC is not launching the day after the game or the week after. It’s coming out several months later in the form of the first pack and then several months after that in the form of the second pack. And that’s because the content is in development.

And so I think from my perspective, obviously if we were able to share more details, that would have been easier, but I think if you look to the example of something like a Mario Kart-type of a DLC approach, really what the goal is is let’s give people the option to purchase it when they’re at the store buying the game and give them something to look forward to, and kind of let them know there’s more to come in this world. And if you’re a Zelda fan buying Nintendo Switch at launch and really you’re buying it for Zelda, I mean how happy are you to know that hey, I’m going to be able to play more Zelda in this world again later this year.”

[FONT=&quot]It's coming! The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a mere week away! To channel that hype, Nintendo has posted an unboxing video with producer Eiji Aonuma to show what's inside the $130 limited edition of the game.
In the video, Aonuma, wearing an awesome Shieka themed t-shirt, shows off the box, which includes a model of the Master Sword of Resurrection, the soundtrack, and more. Do you know the significance of the flower next to the sword on the pedestal? It's actually called the Silent Princess.

Producer Eiji Aonuma Says Tri Force Heroes Is The Most Underrated Zelda Game. February 23, 2017 . 9:30am

Eiji Aonuma was asked to rank his top three favorite Zelda titles, as well as name what he believed to be the most underrated of all the Zelda games.

56 comments Read >

With Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s release just on the horizon, Game Informer asked producer Eiji Aonuma about his favorite games in the Zelda series as part of their month-long Zelda coverage.

Firstly, Aonuma ranked Twilight Princess at number three on his list of favorite Zelda titles, noting that he “wanted to create something better than Ocarina.” Next, he listed Ocarina of Time as his second favorite, noting it was “a game that gave me the opportunity to create a 3D world.”

At number one on his list, Aonuma picked The Phantom Hourglass, mentioning that it was his wife’s favorite as well:
“This is something my wife also likes, Phantom Hourglass. That’s number one. I was developing Twilight Princess, and the goal for that was to make something better than Ocarina. But then that game was something I proposed as a new style of gameplay, and I was a producer on that game for the first time, so I have a lot of sentiment for it.”

Lastly, when asked what he thinks is the most underrated Zelda title, Aonuma went with Tri Force Heroes and said the following about the game:

“The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes. I wanted the users to play a little bit more of that game and have that experience. I love that game.”

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will release for the Wii U and the Nintendo Switch on March 3rd, 2017. Tri Force Heroes is available for the Nintendo 3DS.

Back in Stock! Legend of Zelda Breath of Wild Special Edition for $99. February 24, 2017 . 4:30pm

Update: Getting reports that Dell is cancelling order. Looks like they don’t have enough in stock so we’ll strike out the link below.

Nintendo Switch’s upcoming The Legend of Zelda Breath of Wild is a hot commodity this week as many retailers are out of stock on the game, particularly the $99 Special Edition. The good news for Zelda (and Switch) fans is that an unexpected retailer now has plenty of item in stock. Over at Dell.com, you can pre-order The Legend of Zelda Breath of Wild Special Edition for $99 – no strings attached.

Dell also has the standard edition of the game at $59.99, though this isn’t anything particular noteworthy as the game isn’t exactly experiencing a supply issue as its collector’s edition (except for Amazon which doesn’t seem to carry either in stock). When you pre-order from Dell, games are often ship before release date so that it’ll arrive as close to release date as possible. During checkout, we suggest you opt into Dell’s “Advantage” membership, which is free to sign-up. With this perk, you’ll receive free two-day expedited shipping on pre-order games, giving you an extra chance to get Breath of the Wild that much earlier.

The Special Edition, in case you’re out of the loop, comes with:

  • Nintendo Switch Sheikah Slate Carrying Case
  • Sheikan Eye Collectible Coin
  • Relic of Hyrule: Calamity Ganon Tapestry and Weather-Worn map
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sound Select CD

Whether these phsycial goodies are good enough for the extra $40 would be dependent on you – in either case, this is a far cry from the $600 price tag some eBay scalpers are trying to offload for. The more “reasonable” ones are at about $150, while the Master Edition which is completely sold out is being sold typically for $400 on eBay. Tsk tsk.

The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild amiibo’s Bonuses Revealed . February 24, 2017 . 9:00am

Nintendo has revealed what items and equipment people will receive when they scan the five The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild amiibo into the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Wii U game.

Here’s a list going over each The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild amiibo and what it offers when you scan it into the game.

I made that decision a while ago, and I am very happy about it. Though if you are looking, apparently Amazon is cancelling and delaying a lot of orders.

I placed my order with Amazon on January 2016. It might have been the earliest when they started accepting orders. I'll be pissed if they don't ship it on time.

I hope it works out for you man. That would indeed suck.

you should be first in line to get it shipped!

I took a chance and got Zelda preordered and paid off for the Switch. I'll take my chances hunting for a Switch out in the wild this weekend. If not, I can always cancel my Zelda preorder.

I hope you find one Knight. This one looks too good to miss.

I hope so, but it won't affect me too much since I don't have my WiiU in my apartment. I'm just getting sick of Amazon's bulls***. They had the spat with Nintendo years ago and stopped carrying 3DS and WiiU hardware and they never have release date shipping for Nintendo games. Now they're in a fight with Disney. Doctor Strange isn't for sale and Rogue One doesn't have a pre-order option. Never see any other retailer pull this nonsense.
