You guys, I LOVE lists...now that you popped the cork...can't...resist...posting.........

1 - Link's Awakening
2 - Breath of the Wild
3 - Wind Waker
4 - A Link to the Past
5 - Twilight Princess

While now that Oot has been dethroned by BOTW I had to make a new list. I don't think I have ever seen LA that high before lol.

Its the only LoZ I play every year. I can't tell you when I last revisited OoT, 3D, Master's Quest, or otherwise, same with TP, or even WW, and I love those two.

Link's Awakening wasn't my 1st Zelda (Zelda II was, then ALttP), but it was that Game Boy Zelda that...clicked the hardest.

Oh TP is the Zelda I have beaten the most like 6 times and its lack of difficulty is the only reason I have it below Oot has 2nd best. BOTW just man what can I say. I am having a blast and I have not even gotten to a dungeon yet the best part of Zelda games and after like 10 hours I have only beaten like 10 dungeons and seen like 2 villages. ALTTP was my first Zelda game then WW but Oot is what got me like hocked. LA was the first handheld Zelda I played. I don't play a lot on handhelds only have a 3ds and Gameboy color.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s Director Discusses Various Ideas Cut From The Game. March 8, 2017 . 8:00am

In a recent interview, Breath of the Wild’s director Hidemaro Fujibayashi discussed the different features cut from the game, including items and open treasure chests.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been out for less than a week, but it’s already claimed the title of Nintendo’s best-selling standalone launch title. Now, Kotaku has caught up with director Hidemaro Fujibayashi to talk a bit about different features and ideas that had to be cut out of the final version of the game.

First off, when asked why the game offers the rune-based abilities as opposed to various items and tools acquired over time throughout the game, Fujibayashi explained with the following response:
“Hookshot was [one] we experimented with and tested, as well as [the] Beetle from Skyward Sword. After a lot of experimentation and testing, we weeded out all the ones that had potential to detract from the gameplay and enjoying the game. What’s left currently, the four items, were really what would draw out the fun of the game.”

However, in earlier stages of development with the game, Fujibayashi and the development team tried making certain items only obtainable after completing specific dungeons. Ultimately, this approach used in previous Zelda’s was too limiting and restrictive, as Fujibayashi said:
“We did at one point test what it would be like to be able to obtain some of these abilities in some point in the story. But when we do that, you are pigeonholed into having a specific order of dungeons. We did have ideas [that] if a certain dungeon needs bombs, for example, we might put a little bomb icon on the dungeon walls or somewhere on the ground.”

Next, Fujibayashi talked a bit about changing up certain familiar aspects Breath of the Wild, such as the Heart gauge:
“We had talked about the idea of maybe — usually the heart gauge decreases from the right, having it decrease from the left. Or have it naturally regain over time… We actually did that with a number of things in the game that don’t look like they changed in the final product. Actually, during our experimentation we tried to change them, and then realized, ‘Oh, this is actually really well thought out.’”

In addition to altering the Heart gauge, Fujibayashi also talked about an idea with treasure chests in the game, which they eventually cut out because it confused players too much:
“We thought maybe there’s something we can do differently with these. You’d find a treasure chest in the game that’s open. It’s just open, and that’s the end of it.”

Lastly, Kotaku asked Fujibayashi what was next for him and the Zelda team now that they had created “the best Zelda game yet.” The director replied with the following:
“Every time we put out a Zelda game we feel like we’re at the top of the mountain [and] this is the best Zelda game. But we realize there’s a taller mountain behind that. And I feel like the minute you feel like this is the tallest mountain there ever will be, then you’re not being a good Zelda director.”

Last week was a huge week in Japan, as well as the rest of the world, with the release of Nintendo’s newest console, Switch. Here’s how the Nintendo Switch and its launch titles performed in Japan in the latest from Japanese sales tracker, Media Create, with a look at software and hardware sales from the week of February 27 through March 5, 2017.

At #1 we have The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with 186,379 copies sold on Nintendo Switch. The game also took the #4 spot with 44,602 copies sold for Wii U. The combined total is 230,981 between the two versions, making it the fourth highest-selling debut for any Zelda title in Japan in the past 15 years.

Here’s a look at some data showing how The Legend of Zelda series has performed in Japan:

  • [2002] A Link to the Past and Four Swords – 89,900 (GBA)
  • [2002] Wind Waker – 407,700 (GameCube)
  • [2004] Minish Cap – 96,981 (GBA)
  • [2006] Twilight Princess – 139,011 (Wii)
  • [2007] Phantom Hourglass – 302,887 (DS)
  • [2009] Spirit Tracks – 291,496 (DS)
  • [2011] Ocarina of Time 3D – 164,110 (3DS)
  • [2011] Skyward Sword – 194,978 (Wii)
  • [2013] A Link Between Worlds – 224,143 (3DS)
  • [2015] Majora’s Mask 3D – 230,065 (3DS)
  • [2017] Breath of the Wild – 230,981 (Switch – 186,379|Wii U – 44,602)

[Data and chart courtesy our good friend Ishaan. Hit him up on Twitter to bug him about all-things sales and Zelda.]

Do keep in mind that The Legend of Zelda was never considered super popular in Japan as it is in the West. While it can be considered a “console seller” in some parts of the West, in Japan it’s always been a pretty popular title but not enough to ever break the domestic 1 million milestone. It did, however, pick up a following with its many handheld titles over the years in Japan, which certainly helped bring Link to the spotlight with our friends on the other side of the pond, and it’s pretty evident seeing how it is now one of the series’ best debuts on a console that hasn’t even been out for a week, meaning that it certainly picked up plenty of new fans along the way.

While Nintendo Switch-owners are enjoying the open-world goodness that is Breath of the Wild, those with PlayStation 4s aren’t left out as they got Horizon Zero Dawn that also released in Japan to take #2 with a nice 116,997 sold in its debut.

Moving on, we have 1-2-Switch take #3 with 79,536 copies sold for its launch week. This debut isn’t nearly as impressive considering the amount of marketing Nintendo had going on for the game in Japan, and it reminds me a lot of Nintendo Land’s debut of 72,121 copies sold when it released on Wii U back in December 2012. They’re both pretty similar in many ways and failed to perform like Wii Sports that sold 176,167 copies for the Wii in its Japanese debut. Again, the market is different and software sales are on the decline in Japan, so I think it’s fair to say that 1-2-Switch has a bit of an edge on Nintendo Land, but not by much.

Next up, we have Super Bomberman R at #6 with 36,623 copies sold. It may not seem like much, but it’ll have to do for a franchise that has seen more explosive days in the past. Dragon Quest Heroes I & II also debuted in Japan and it sold 25,606 copies. It’s definitely on the lower end, but understandable considering the Switch version doesn’t exactly offer anything new and it’s a bundle featuring two fairly recent games that released on several platforms. Same could actually be said for Puyo Puyo Tetris S which charted at #10 with 12,854 on Switch.

And finally, we have Winning Post 8 2017 at #19 on PS4 with 5,793 copies sold, and Doraemon: Nobita no Nankyoku Kachikochi Dai Bouken at #20 with 5,481 copies sold.

Since it’s not every week that we have new console releases, let’s take this opportunity to see how the Nintendo Switch stacks up compared to the last few major console launches in Japan, with numbers provided by Media Create:

  • (2006) PlayStation 3 – 81,639
  • (2006) Wii – 350,258
  • (2011) Nintendo 3DS – 374,764
  • (2011) PlayStation Vita – 324,859
  • (2014) PlayStation 4 – 309,154
  • (2017) Nintendo Switch – 329,151

As you can see, it didn’t reach Wii or Nintendo 3DS levels, but it managed to narrowly beat out the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 to make it the third best major console launch in Japan in over a decade. It’s also worth noting that its top-seller in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sold 186,379 copies, beating out the Wii U’s top-selling launch title New Super Mario Bros. U that sold 163,528 copies in its first week.

The top-20 chart for the week is as follows:

[FONT=&quot]Throughout game development, features, characters, plots, and more get cut from the game. Sometimes someone comes up with a really cool idea on paper but the developers can't find a way to fully execute it in the game or feel it doesn't match well with the actual game.
It's no surprise when The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's director Hidemaro Fujibayashi admits that the game had a lot of features cut from the final game. After all, the game was in development for a VERY long time. Some of the things may surprise you though as the team was considering adding fan favorite features and even changing a bit of the Zelda formula.
“Hookshot was [one] we experimented with and tested, as well as [the] Beetle from Skyward Sword,” Fujibayashi said, referring to the flying mechanical insect that you could use to grab items and drop bombs on enemies. “After a lot of experimentation and testing, we weeded out all the ones that had potential to detract from the gameplay and enjoying the game. What’s left currently, the four items, were really what would draw out the fun of the game.”
The team wanted to change how health worked in the game by changing the way the hearts decrease as you take damage and even add the ability to regain health over time. Ultimately, this was scrapped due to the harder difficulty in Breath of the Wild that gives you a survivalist feel.
“We had talked about the idea of maybe — usually the heart gauge decreases from the right, having it decrease from the left,” Fujibayashi said. “Or have it naturally regain over time... We actually did that with a number of things in the game that don’t look like they changed in the final product. Actually, during our experimentation we tried to change them, and then realized, ‘Oh, this is actually really well thought out.’”
When originally announced, Breath of the Wild was only going to be on Wii U. Sadly, as time went on Nintendo began developing the Nintendo Switch and told the BotW team to also release it on Nintendo Switch. Due to this, the team had to scrap some Wii U features in order to make the game work on the Switch.
“We felt that the way the Sheikah Slate is represented in the game and how we use the GamePad in real life synced really well,” said Fujibayashi. “So when we had to remove it, I did feel like, ‘Oh, it’s too bad we had to do that.’ And because it was so tied into the scenario, we did have to go back and redesign and rethink the scenario, which was a little bit [of] hard work.”
Additionally, Kotaku's Jason Schrier talked about how he was able to cheat his way through a puzzle and Fujibayashi encouraged this kind of thinking. They want players to think in other ways as it adds to the fun and makes it so there isn't one set solution.
"So I want to tell you a story. I got to a puzzle shrine in the game and it was the one where it was a maze and then a ball dropping into the maze and you have to move your controller around to rotate the maze. So instead of doing that, I turned my controller around and used the back of the maze to skip the whole thing and drop the ball where it needed to go. Did you guys know you could do that? Does it feel like cheating? How do you feel about players breaking the game?"
"First of all, yes I did know you could do that, because I did that too. (laughter) What I realized when I did that was that cheating is really fun. And so for dungeons and puzzles that have multiple ways of solving it, we definitely intentionally left those, what seems like cheating ways of doing it. Because it’s fun."
The critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is out now on Wii U and Nintendo Switch.

£115? Geez, I feel incredibly lucky to have gotten mine for the actual price and not had to deal with the BS prices people try to sell them for. Isn't it possible to acquire the pieces in the actual game without the amiibo though?

The only way I've seen people obtain the pieces is through the use of the ambiios. If there is another method then nobody has discovered it yet :/

If you complete all 120 shrines then you are given BOTW's version of the green tunic... but I really wanted those classics :(

10 COMMENTS[FONT=&quot]You can unlock Link’s classic green tunic in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

It’s been part of the look of The Legend of Zelda going way back to the original NES game: a dorky green tunic that protagonist Link somehow manages to make look heroic. But with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild adding a huge variety of equippable weapons and armor, that classic look seemed to be left behind. Or perhaps not! It turns out Nintendo has hidden a special method for unlocking the old-school green tunic. It’s just gonna take some time. The Tunic of the Wild comes with a hat and pants as well, of course, completing the set and giving Link a lovely ‘80s look.
If you like the green look but are seeking something slightly more modern, you can unlock other versions of the green tunic via amiibo. Using certain amiibo will spawn a treasure chest in-game, which has a chance of including pieces of individual outfits. Here are the outfits available from those (via RPG Site):

  • 8-Bit Link amiibo - You can unlock a similarly old-school outfit through this amiibo, called the Armor of the Hero.
  • Ocarina of Time Link amiibo - In honor of the Hero of Time from the first 3D Legend of Zelda game, this amiibo can score you pieces from the Armor of Time.
  • Toon Link amiibo (both Wind Waker and Smash Bros. versions) - On top of earning you a bunch of fish, these have a chance to drop the Armor of Wind
Rumors have pointed to further armor sets on the way from unreleased amiibo — including sets tied to Majora’s Mask, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword — but for now these are the choices you’re stuck with.

I honestly can't remember if it was anywhere in the intro, its not on the main menu, and the music throughout the game is very quiet and subtle for lack of better words.

oh. that.......kind of sucks, tbh.

I really don't miss the old tunic or classic Link look. In fact, let the BotW blue tunic hatless Link be a character in a SSB game.

I agree. I kinda prefer it to the green elf hat look. At the very least I'd like to see this Link outfit be a costume in SSB.

Bit of a correction on that article, the Twilight Princess outfit is already obtainable through the standard Link amiibo.

this game is freaking massive. im very surprised at how big it is and how 'technical' it gets compared to other games...

is there an eagle eye like in Twilight Princess? that would be sweet.

Accidentally discovered Shield surfing. Was fighting a moblin i guess, it was one of those tall motherf*ers with clubs going down a path and tried to do a jumping strike while Z-targeting and instead jumped on my shield, went over the monsters head and surfed down the path.

Hold you shield, jump, then press A. It wears out your sheild quickly.
