Cano has a -0.6 UZR and -0.9 UZR/150. Basically, he's average.

Orlando Hudson and Mark Ellis both had UZRs over 9.8 and UZR/150 over 12. Hudson had the worst of the two (by less than 1 point) but I included him since he played more innings.

Mark Teixera had a -2.9 UZR and -2.4 UZR/150. Daric Barton 12.1 UZR and 14.2 UZR/150.

Only reason Jeter, Teixeira, and Cano won was because of name recognition.

I'd look at more than just UZR though...How about fielding percentage, DP rate.

Its debatable and close.

Should Longoria have won (14 errors! But great in double plays)? How about your boy Hunter not winning? Happy with that?

1. It's actually not close. At all.

Teixeira, as pointed out earlier, had an UZR that was better than only Glaus, Konerko, Howard, and Fielder. None of those guys are good defensively so that should tell you something right there. His range was way down this year. By all rights, this one belonged to Daric Barton.

Even the simplest of advanced defensive stats shows us that Cano was nothing more than average. Let's compare UZR again:

Mark Ellis: 9.9
Orlando Hudson: 9.8
Robinson Cano: -0.6

Cano won for the exact same reason that Jeter did. High fielding percentage, which is about as useful as pitcher Wins and Losses.

2. Beltre probably deserved it over Longoria, but at least their numbers were close. No other third basemen even approached them.

3. Hunter clearly didn't deserve one. He didn't deserve it last year either.

Fielding percentage is based on errors which are a crap stat. DP rate relies on too much. You need a runner on base, 2 other fielders to make the play, and 2 umpires to make the calls.

Utley better win the Gold Glove for the NL :cmad:

I'm sure they'll give it to Brandon Phillips.

Not surprising that Yankees GM Brian Cashman is meeting Cliff Lee in Arkansas.

Lee is staying in Texas. He bought cowboy boots. No one buys cowboy boots and then goes to New York.

Scott Rolen was awarded with his eighth career Gold Glove on Wednesday.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the group, as many expected the award to go to Ryan Zimmerman. This is his first Gold Glove since 2006. Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzalez and Bronson Arroyo rounded out the first-time winners, while Albert Pujols took first base back from Adrian Gonzalez, Brandon Phillips won at second base and Yadier Molina won his third straight Gold Glove behind the plate. Shane Victorino and Michael Bourn rounded out the outfield as repeat winners. Nov. 10 - 3:40 pm et

Phillips was good this year, just think Utley is pretty deserving these last couple of seasons.

Another good read on Jeter's fraudulent gold glove award. Hits many of the points that Kingfish and Spidey brought up:

http://mlb-facts-and-rumors.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22297882/25756723

"You know how many times you see Jeter go into the hole and doing that leaping throw, but doesn't quite get the runner? Oh, what a gutty play, he doesn't get an E. Thing is, most other shortstops don't have to make that jump and get the runner."

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who sees this.

Kingfish and I should have our own radio show.

S'true. If there's one thing Derek Jeter can do, it's look impressive while actually failing.

Spidey and the Fish. Has a nice ring to it.

The A’s acquired David DeJesus from the Royals for right-hander Vin Mazzaro and left-hander Justin Marks, the teams announced today. Royals GM Dayton Moore says Mazzaro will join the team’s rotation and Marks will start the season at high Class A Wilmington.

Mazzaro, 24, posted a 4.27 ERA in 122 1/3 innings for the A's this year with 5.8 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9. He became expendable when Oakland won the bidding for Japanese right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma earlier in the week. If the A's reach a deal with Iwakuma, he'll join Brett Anderson, Trevor Cahill, Gio Gonzalez and Dallas Braden in the team's rotation.

DeJesus batted .318/.384/.443 in 394 plate appearances this year, but he missed the final two months of the season because he required surgery on his right thumb. The 30-year-old, who has spent all of his eight-year career with the Royals, has experience in left, center and right. He joins Rajai Davis, Coco Crisp, Ryan Sweeney, Conor Jackson and Jack Cust in a crowded Oakland outfield that could clear up if Jackson and Cust are traded or non-tendered.

Marks, 22, posted a 4.87 ERA as a starter in the lower minors in 2010. The 2009 third rounder posted 9.5 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9 as he picked up his first significant experience as a pro.

DeJesus will earn $6MM in 2011 and qualify for free agency after the season. Mazzaro may qualify for arbitration as a Super Two next winter, but he cheap for now and won't hit free agency until after the 2015 campaign.

It's a good move for the A's. If the Angels don't sign Crawford, he's the guy I would have liked them to trade for. Especially for the nothing that the A's got him for.

Well, The A's need hitting. So good choice

Seriously, if they get some good young hitters, and their pitching prospects progress well, watch out.

Their pitching is very enviable. They led the league in rotation ERA last year and Vin Mazzaro was hardly part of that. They still have Cahill, Anderson, Braden, Gonzalez, and now Iwakamura if they can sign him. The trick for Oakland is always hitting, since free agents are hardly falling over themselves to get there.

Well, I suppose they could just trade for good hitters. Don't they have the best farm system in the league? Surely they could get some good hitters and try to make a run?

Actually, most reports rank the Royals as the best farm system in the league. Which of course you should know as a fan of said team.

Didn't you two have a blog or something for like...five minutes?
