You can make the same case about the Giants until this year.

McCovey, Bonds, Clark, Kent, Marichal, etc..

They never had all of their great players at once like the Mariners.

we are starting our victory parade at ten in sf...bonds better not show his big headed azz there...cheatin sob

They don't have a more famous fan than Rob Schneider?

TV ratings for World Series equal record low

NEW YORK (AP) - Television ratings for this year's World Series equaled the lowest ever.

The San Francisco Giants' five-game victory over the Texas Rangers averaged an 8.4 rating and 14 share. That matches the record low of the 2008 Phillies-Rays World Series, which also went five games, with the decisive game suspended then completed two days later because of rain.
The average rating was down 28 percent from the 11.7/19 for last year's Yankees-Phillies series.

The Giants' 3-1 win Monday night on Fox earned an 8.8/14.
San Francisco averaged a 35.3/61 for the series, while Dallas had a 30.9/48.

Ratings represent the percentage of all homes with TVs tuned into a program. Shares represent the percentage of all homes with TVs in use at the time.

I never watch college sports. I only am interested if I'm involved in some sort of NCAA March Madness tournament.

I went to an Engineering school, and can't fathom cheering for a school even if I was in the vicinity. Maybe if I had a kid who went to the school but I know people who cheer for schools who's never even set foot on the campus. I know it's like that in Big School areas but I just wouldn't give a s'.

My feelings exactly.

I might like potential players (NCAA basketball only) and watch draft picks and whatnot but watching actual games, I'm cool off that.

Don't care, never will. I'd rather watch an entire 40-inning game between the Pirates and Mariners than one second of a BCS game.

You should care, and here's why. In a day and age where TV contracts, more or less define the financial success of a league, that's a kick to the nuts for Bud Selig and MLB. Also has a down-the-line impact on advertising, revenue sharing, etc.

Frankly, MLB and Fox were out of their minds having two WS games go up against the NFL in prime time, and are now paying the price for it.

Selig and the MLB deserved it for the lousy product they have been putting up in recent years. It's no wonder the fans are dwindling while NFL and NBA are flourishing.

This ratings talk is just non-sense. The playoffs will ALWAYS be on television. If the poor ratings mean Fox won't renew their contract, I won't shed a tear.

It being on TV or not isnt the issue. MLB has it's own network now so that would never be an issue.

The issue is that the league and it's teams will define their health by the money they make from TV. And when the ratings are low, the advertisers wont pay as much to the Networks, and in turn the Networks wont pay as much to MLB for the broadcast rights. And when MLB is making less, the teams are making less. Not every team is the Yankees with their own cable TV network.

Milwaukee Brewers World Champions 2011. So let it be written. So let it be done.

I still don't care. Baseball will still be played, it'll still be on TV. It's not football or the NBA finals, but people are trying to make it out to be as bad as hockey which it clearly isn't.
