Dofp easily. It was the most emotional of them.

Great year for CBMs, but my vote goes to DOFP.

As many have stated, the film wins on its acting alone. Lot of great performances to enjoy throughout and some great action sequences

The acting was amazing in DOFP, I think thats what contributed to the movie having so much emotion.

Is it just me or is GOTG slowly but surely catching up to the other two?

Seems that way, I am glad, thought this would be much of a 3 horse race.

Really??
I mean, I always have to give it to McAvoy and Fassbender (hence why the airplane scene was the best acted moment of the film)
but nobody else exactly jumped out as putting in much effort, even Jackman seemed kinda bored for half the movie
I get differing opinions and all but curious, what made the performances superior in you guys' eyes?

a dickish CG raccoon made me more teary than most of those academy award winners Fox packs the films with

I just thought the acting all around was great, McAvoy and Fassbender were the standouts, but I thought Jackman, Stewart, McKellan, Page, Sy and Hoult all did very well in their roles. I thought Dinklage and Lawrence were really good also, as well as of course as Peters. And then the supporting characters were very good also, despite having little to work with. I think out of all the CBM's this year, DOFP had the most powerful moments, and a lot of that was down to the acting.

Fassbender, Evan Peters and especially Mcavoy were fantastic. Patrick Stewart was great as always. Not that any of the other main players were horrible, just wasn't impressed too much cause I've seen them do better either in this franchise or other roles.

The scene where future Xavier is explaining the plot at the intro still feels extremely rushed to me with the actors, like they are reading lines on a teleprompter. Someone really needs to give the supporting mutants more lines in a conversation. Feels completely unnatural and just sticks out way too much. They are phenomenal actors but this was far from Dinklage and Lawrence's best work imo. Though I thought Lawrence was better here then in First Class at times.

Was the airplane scene really the best acting of DoFP?

If so, that's not good, because it's young Magneto responding to events that happened off-screen, in between the two movies.

It was one of several scenes in the movie were the acting certainly stood out. It's certainly Fassbenders best moment in the movie, and he gave a good performance all around.

I don't see what difference him talking about off screen events makes. In Jaws, Quint's speech about his experience on the USS Indianaoplis and how the sharks came when the ship went down and he and his men went into the water was one of the best scenes in the movie and Robert Shaw's best piece of acting in it.

The Joker gives two stories about how he got his scars in TDK and they're two of his best scenes in the movie. It's all about the passion that actors put into these speeches. Not that they're talking about something we have or have not seen.

I disagree. Jackman was on top form in DOFP. It was a step down from his performance in Wolverine, but that is to be expected, he had way more to work with.

Jackman was the highlight of DoFP for me. He has really grown into the role of Wolverine. He looks more like the character now than ever before.

um...I'm not drawing the same connections as you are. Maybe it's because I don't have a PhD.

Wow. Big Hero 6 over DOFP. must've been one great movie

I have the exact same rankings as at least as far as the top 4 go.

I put it over DoFP and I didn't think BH6 was great. It's quite good but The Incredibles it is not. It's just that I also thought DoFP was just good and a bit less so than BH6.

McKellan wasn't given as much to work with as Stewart. Kinda wasted actually. There was no meeting of the Magnetos(something I would have liked to have seen even though I admit to having no idea how to make that work within the context of the movie). Stewart was solid. Fassbender as well. But I think McAvoy was the real standout above and beyond anyone else. The only other notable performance to me was Dinklage. Peters to me was just adequet. Sure, he had the flashiest and most entertaining scenes but aside from that he really didn't stand out to me. Not to mention the utter lunacy of telling such a useful character 'thanks for your help. Couldn't have done it with out you. Well...see ya! Go home'. At least ROTK had Gimli address the elephant in the room.....er, battlefield.

I agree. It can feel like verbal diarrhea. Obvious exposition for it's own sake is a big pet peeve of mine. Pulls me right out of the film. At least it's good that here it was mostly all at the beginning so they got it out of the way.

Cap2 and DOFP were pretty good, the former in particular. Well constructed stories, really well told, exciting set pieces. But GOTG felt like a cold grape soda in a scorching hot day, loopy straw and all. :awesome: So GOTG it is.

I have now saw GOTG again, and yeah, DOFP is still top for me, its standing upto repeat viewings a lot more than the other two have for me.

Brilliantly put. Sometimes an actor doing a great job of relaying something we havent seen is better than seeing the moment playout for ourselves. The plane scene was one such scene.

I thought Jackman was great in DOFP, I wish he would have had a bit more action, but his acting was top notch in the movie.

Maybe one day we can see Wolverine have an actual battle with a Sentinel, metal claws and all.

I have to admit, that was one of my major disappointments in the movie, though in the context of the movie I understand why we didnt get, I am sure they could have sorted something, though they probably had to do the movie that way to get the future ending.

Either way though, for DOFP stands up to repeat viewings a lot more than the other two.

Wow, I'm shocked that there doesn't seem to be any love for Edge of Tomorrow :shr:

Anyway, for 2014

1) Captain America: The Winter Soldier (as of this post, this is the best comic book/superhero film ever, in my opinion)

2) Edge of Tomorrow

3) Guardians of the Galaxy

4) X-Men: Days of Future Past

5) The Amazing Spider-Man (my favourite superhero and my favourite Spidey film of them all, but even I must admit that he was outclassed this year)

6) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

7) Transformers: Age of Exttinction

Big Hero 6 isn't out in the UK until January, but I reckon that would have placed highly. Oh well, that'll have to settle for the 2015 list lol :oldrazz:

Just saw Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

TWS, DOFP and GOTG are still the better CBMs this year.

Sin City, 300 and TASM2 are about average.

T4 is the worst one so far. I'm sure TMNT will be about the same.

I really can't choose. So far, I've seen GotG, DOFP, CA:TWS and ASM2. All four of those were outstanding. Big Hero 6 was also quite well done despite it's deviation from the source material. 2014 has been the best year for comic book movies, eclipsing 2008 and 2012.

My ranking would have to be..

1-Captain America:Winter Soldier
2-X Men: Days of Future Past
3-Guardians of the Galaxy
4-Sin City:A Dame To Kill For
5-300:Rise of an Empire
6-TMNT

Haven't seen the rest.

DODP and GOTG definitely haven the most replay value for me. I have found TWS doesn't really stand up to repeat viewings as well as those two.
