Psyched. All I want is just ONE panel of Ben in either his Scarlet Spider or Spider-Man costume. Thats all. *fingers crossed*

Okay, so the whole "cousin" angle just went out the window? Plausible explanation there, Pete. Not to mention the fact some of Spidey's supporting cast met said cousin. Not to mention no mention of Seward at all in the flashbacks. We'll see how it progresses.

Incidentally, today's Official Index deals with most of the Clone Saga Amazings (most of them written by me) so be sure to pick that and #9 up as well!

Some people are never satisfied. :whatever:

Ben Urich is an old, grizzled guy with a thousand problems who saw Ben Reilly (with BLONDE hair) maybe twice very briefly years and years ago. He was always a bit self-involved, so it's possible he just forgot. People beg Marvel for years "BRING BACK KAINE!" and cry "WHY DON'T THEY MENTION BEN REILLY/ THE CLONE SAGA?!" and they finally do, and then it's just off to more complaints. Why not at least balance out your complaints with positives like scenes with Ben Reilly on the road and Kaine's comeback? I think you want to dislike this because it's a BND story and even if it did everything right, you would still find something to complain about.

Reading the issue, I don't think Peter really needed to mention any of the cousin stuff precisely for the reasons mentioned, not to mention that if he did, then the police would want to know "where" the cousin is... I'm not sure if anyone knows that he died at the hands of the Goblin since there was no body found/left, and it would have tied Peter up some more...

The art wasn't terrific, but it's nice to see Marvel finally acknowledging some of it's rich history, even the stuff that some people didn't like.

:yay:

Bub, if they did everything right you wouldn't hear a peep from me. Yeah, I wanted Ben back, but I'm not gonna praise it just because if it's not worth praising. That ain't doing anyone a service. "Yay! Ben's back! It's crap, but he's still back!" No.

Like I said, we'll see how it progresses. I'm reservin' all absolute judgment till the final issue. And even if it wasn't a BND story, I'm not a big Guggenheim fan. Dude's writing is seriously questionable.

Thanks Matt Adler.

Why didn't Aunt May recognize the voice and speech patterns of Peter in Ben? Maybe Ben put on an accent?

Didn't they have a funeral for Ben though?

No but they did have a wake. Is that what its called? Tons of people came over to May's house and gave their condolences to Peter and MJ for Ben's passing. I think Urich was even there. Of course... this was a directors cut scene.

I posted a small review over in the bought thought but to make it simple... I was disappointed.

I wasn't going to buy these Ben Reilly issues due to my disdain of BND but decided to go ahead with it in favor of my Clone Saga love. Nothing new came out of it and what could have been an amazing shocking moment in the end with Kaine's return has been ruined and plastered all over previews since the story was announced.

And if it ends up that Kaine killed Raptor's family, then this will have just been Peter Parker getting in trouble because he was confused as the killer when it was Kaine who really killed... though Ben Reilly was he original suspect....

And I believe we called that story 'The Trial of Peter Parker' in the original Clone Saga. Save that it was an Detective's partner, not an old lab partner's family.

But I'm holding off judgement on that one until we get the end of the story. I'm hoping it's not that predictable, because everyone's predicted it since day one.

I really want to like this story, but this first issue was a big let down for me.

I will say that whoever did the art on the Ben Reilly scenes is fantastic.

Yeah I think I'll wait untill the last issue before I judge the story, and where its going. So far, more gaps of ben's exile filled in. Cool. Let's see where it goes. Kaine is back. Also cool. Was it a surprise? No. Still cool.

I dont really remember the Directors Cut but I do know that Ben's body disintegrated after death and Peter scattered the "ashes" at the Brooklyn Bridge.

In the thumbnails gallery of The Ben Reilly Tribute are all the pages of the directors cut... on page 70 of this thread are all the pages but two.

I think Urich is even one of the people shown at the wake.

He's been doing his own stuff... especially away from Marvel & DC...

SPOILER FOR CLONE SAGA #1:

I just read it. It was enjoyable and thrilling at parts - especially Ben's exit from that diner on his motorcycle. It was very fast paced but then again this was all about trimming all the fat so that's only to be expected - plus it's a miniseries. Can't help feeling the original for all its flaws will be better than this despite some really cool set pieces in this retelling. I think it's because of the sheer scope of the original Clone Saga [again, even though it was flawed].

Some very nice back and forth between Ben and Peter though I was surprised to see Peter making jokes and not doing his man on the edge schtick from the original saga. They are just trying to stick to the absolute essentials I guess, but I really did like the 'dark' Peter as it makes perfect sense for this to be the straw that breaks the camels back and sends him totally over the edge.

It was so awesome to see Kaine in the shadows though!

Web of #1 was both cool and dissappointing. Ben was in it, with his 90's long hair, but wearing the normal Spider-Man suit. The whole issue takes place in Kaine's head, with Ben, Peter and the Jackal offering their perspectives on his life. Also, Louise from the Lost Years story makes a cameo. Still managed to be dissappointing. I hate comics with back up stories.

I kinda think this is Marvel trying to quiet the upset fans by giving them Kaine. But I still think it's awesome.

I sitll think if sales dictate Ben could come back in some capacity. Be it Lost Years type of thing... or brought back from the dead.
