I hope that despite the recent drop in sales from the clone saga mini, ben still gets his own ongoing series and remains as the scarlet spider.

While some of the dialogue was corny as hell (a constant in this series) I approve of how it ended.

Yeah, the ending was sooo much better than the original one. I wish this was current continuity.

What was the point of this in the end? If it's out of continuity? It's not like Marvel's gonna put out another ongoing in a alternate universe.

They've already got Spider-Girl for that. So really, what was the purpose of having this, but having it out of continuity?

Having fun :)

anyone consider that the tale in web of spiderman 5 is actually a recent story set after bens "death" hence not using the name ben reilly?

unlikely but you never know

The story opened up with "Several years ago...", so take that however you like.

Yeah the Web of Spider-Man 5 Ben story is firmly set in past Exile continuity. Though, I will consider Peter's last line from Clone Saga 6 as a wink and nod to the fans. Your move Marvel.

The same reason we have X-Men Forever...

Great news!
Writer Howard Mackie just sent me a note thanking Zack and my site for the nice reviews of the recent Clone Saga mini-series.
He said that he and Tom DeFalco have pitched a solo Ben Reilly book to Marvel. Here’s his quote.

Thanks, Brad. I truly appreciate all the kind words, and that Tom gets all the blame for the minor negatives! Tom and I would LOVE to continue with Ben– and have pitched a series– but that is Marvel’s call. Maybe a grassroots movement would help? Thanks again.

Thats great news! I really wanna see Ben get his own title and I'm willing to organize a movement to make this happen!

oh well I was thinking storming Marvel and taking Joe Q hostage until we get a Scarlet Spider ongoing but I guess a letter would suffice. Put my name on that letter aswell dude.

Beyond sending in constant calls to the marvel offices for at least a week on end until they submit to our will? Got me....

But why does it have to be limited to just a single ongoing title? Cant we give ben his own set of multiple titles? That way we get 4-5 issues a month featuring ben on top of the regular spider-man titles?

I think the way to go about it, is to say you are a new fan who had never heard of Ben Reilly before, until the Clone Saga mini, and you think it would be a great idea for them to create a Scarlet Spider book or something.

I don't know if thats the right way to ask because the only answer you'll recieve is a terse "well read the books that were produced in the 90's" They're not going to produce a new storyline if its only purpose is to act as a substitute for the first one. If you want to convince them that the scarlet spider should come back, then tell the editors exactly that. if you evade the issue it wont help anything. Tell them what you want and stick to your guns. These guys are buisnessmen. they know the difference between a fake plea and a real one. They respect honesty and a little bravado. Trust me, it goes a loooong way when you need to make a convincing arguement. Especially in a situation like this, when we've practically been handed what we want on a silver platter.

Yeah but this Fans of Reilly thread has been around since 2005.
Marvel knows there are existing Reilly fans. They need to know there is a new base of fans.

Hey Reilly fans. Updated the site with some Ben Costumes, Art and figures. Please e-mail me anything you can find that I don't have.

Great news about the ongoing Ben proposal.

Do you guys think they should keep Todd Nauck on as the Artist? He did a bang up job on the clone saga mini and call me crazy, but I think he has all the flamboyance of a 90's comic book artist. He has all the Pazaaz of Roger Cruz's or Mark Bagley's typical artistic style. I think Marvel should keep him on board.

My thoughts exactly.

Ok I just read issue 6 and all I gotta say is that Marvel has seriously redeemed itself in my eyes lately. First the considerable increase in quality in the Ultimate titles post Ultimatum and now this. I absolutely loved this mini and I really hope that a Ben Reilly ongoing picking up exactly where this left off is approved.

I agree with you, but for vastly different reasons. It's not Roger Cruz or Mark Bagley's artistic style he reminds me of, but the MUCH missed Mike Wieringo's cartoony, irreverent style he's reminiscent of. I loved 'Ringo's Spider-Ben. :csad:
