I'm making a Youtube tribute of 'Revelations.' I'm currently painstakingly photographing panels from the TPB. I'm about halfway through, just finishing Sensational. Sometimes I have to take 2 or 3 pics just to get it looking right.

I'm going to have a sad slow song accompany it. I have some songs in mind, but if anyone has a suggestion I'm always open to that too. I'll put the link up here when it's done (hopefully by the end of the week).

Nice! I was hoping someone would do something like that...

I recommend "Heart" by the Canadian Indie Rock Band, Stars. The first minute or so sounds lame but 1:15 from 4:25 (which is the end of the song) sounds really sad...

It's okay. A little too poppy and upbeat for what I'm thinking. Plus, the lyrics don't really fit, but thanks anyway. :yay:

Gary Jules' Mad World is one of the songs I was considering, but I might go for something a little less exposed and original.

Some other songs I'm considering... Sia- Breathe Me, Akira Yamaoke- Room of Angel, Moby- God Moving over the face of Water.

You should use "Mistunderstood" by Dream Theater. It's got slow parts and more full parts of the song which are perfect for a tribute video. Check it out if you're still looking for one.

WHY!? WHY Won't Ben come back! He was a great guy... and -- and....

Sorry... I reread Revelations too and... It's ok... I've got control of myself again. Sorry.

It's all right....you're just suffering from the after effects of Clone depression. We all go through it at some point and time. You will learn to control it.

I had my Clone depression a few years back while doing research for a Spider-Man story I was writing. Reliving how great a character Ben Reilly had become. How well he and Peter interacted. It was meant to be but I like to blame the insane Spider-Man fanboys because it's fun and makes me feel better about myself. :oldrazz: :oldrazz:

Oooh! I found the perfect song today.

EDIT: I spilled the beans on the song originally, but I'm editing this because I think it should let it speak for itself when I pair it with the video. :-)

Clone Depression is a nasty thing. I've had mine since Mid-1997 when i first bought my Revelations TPB. I've read that thing soooo many times when i was a kid....damn.

I end up resenting the fanboys who hate it and the few things about Spidey they hold dear (like Gwen Stacy...) and Todd McFarlane art (it's oooook). Sometimes I think it isn't fair that guys like us can't enjoy our favorite character while they get to see their favorite character (the most overexposed Marvel hero not named Wolverine) in EVERYTHING. I mean, damn, I love Spidey too but let us have a Ben Reilly MINI or SOMETHING!!! Fer chrissakes...:cmad:

Just....breath....go read the first few appearances of Kaine in Spider-Girl and you'll feel a bit better. Drink some water...it helps.:woot:

so true:csad: seriously marvel must know the demand for ben to come back.

I've had clone depression since I picked up PPSM#75 during a chilly October wednesday in 1996. That's almost 11 years!!

And I agree with freemadison about the whiney fanboys. Ben Reilly is 100 times the character Gwen Stacy is. In terms of depth, Gwen is a puddle. Ben's an ocean. The worst is 'Wizard' magazine. What a bunch of overgrown geriatric fanboys. They always piss and moan about how Spidey has changed since 1982 and ten years after the clone saga they still make fun of Ben Reilly like they have a secret crush on him. **** them. Reilly should wear their disdain as a badge of honor. What a rag.

Ben was alrite, the only problem i had was that marvel tried to pull he is the real spiderman. I still like gwen better because she came first. I thought the character was great i think at the time writers just didnt have any ideas for her. What i liked about ben was two bro to bro relationship he and pete had. Pete finally understood that him and ben were in it together.

For me Ben Reilly worked best as the one perfect clone, who has the same memories and powers as Peter, but his life went in a different direction making him a different person.
And when he and Peter worked together, and they chose different solutions to a problem, it was great to see what 5 years can do to a person.
This difference, and the fact that they became best friends and were so close like brothers made the stories so unique and heart warming.

The day Ben Reilly died was the last comic issue that really transported feelings. After that, nothing really touched me as much as that or Aunt Mays death in ASM#400.

It feels like since Ben's death Spider-Man is living in a parallel world and nothing that happens really matters. At least that's what I feel when I read the books today, and when I read the clone saga again and again.

If you mean that by "clone depression", then I know what you feel.

Bring back Ben!

Yeah, i think it's a great story and one of the more unique and interesting ones in all of comics. It's the story that brought me into comics. Sure, they clearly dropped the ball by trying to impose their agenda (Ben as real Peter) on the fanbase. But maaaaan, there was so much potential there for good.

dude, that's exactly how I feel. Morlun, Sins Past, Back in Black...none of it really matters. I mean i'll still read it but it's not NEARLY the same anymore. It's like by avoiding the clone saga, the writers and editors have decided to rewrite the Spider-Man universe. What a joke. To me, continuity doesn't REALLY begin again until Ben or Kaine comes back and the events of the Clone Saga are seriously addressed

.

I want Reilly back, more badass and in-your-face than ever, and making tons of flippant comments about stupid fanboys who hate stories they've never even read.

By the way, how goes the Revelations vid?

I hope that our long wait for a Ben return is rewarded by having his return be ON PAR with Kraven's Last Hunt as one of the best Spider-Man stories of all time. now if you'll excuse me i'm gonna go find a paper bag to breath in.

The Revelations video is going to be badass. I'm messing with it in iMovie right now. It's actually the first Youtube video I've ever tried to make, but I got tired waiting for other people to make a Revelations video. :-) I took around 200 pics of those four issues and I just hope I can fit it all in to a four minute video.

I miss the guy so much... As I'd say before I'll even take a powerless Ben. So far we've got lots of crap like: Super powered Goblin babies, super MJ, Wolverine knock-off Pete and last but not least Hell froze over...Peter unmasked... What's next for 2008 Optic Blasts!? or being able to toss a Web shield with perfect accuracy... or maybe He'll be able to grow 16 feet... I don't know who's he going to knock off in the powers department... But freemadison, dued!! Don't diss Gwen... If it wasn't for her we wouldn't have Ben... Remember that Gwen obsessed Jackal made the clones... so show some respect for the skank...

I don't really have anything against the character...as far as i'm concerned she's just another "Girlfriend in Refrigerator" (i know, i know, she's the FIRST...what a lovely trend) and i think she's more important with regards to how Peter (and Ben :woot:) feel about her. She never had an opportunity to flesh out her character much which surprisingly doesn't make me too attached to her.

What i meant to say is that I get sick of Spidey fanboys *****ing about Gwen Stacy (especially when they want her to return...i'm normally okay with "returns" but in this case...just tasteless) or MJ not being "as good" as Gwen...Besides, she gets sooooo many flashbacks that she might as well be alive. The Memory of Gwen ought to be a supporting character cause it gets more face time than Betty Brant and Flash Thompson these days.

Which brings me to the fact that I get annoyed that Peter obsesses over Gwen 40x more than he does about Ben's death or Baby May. I know, i know, it's the writers but still! It gets annoying after awhile. I understand that the writers are in their 40-60 somethings and grew up with Gwen which also represents the generational gap between most Ben Reilly fans and Gwen Stacy diehards. A lot of us grew up with Reilly but he gets killed, dissed, and dismissed without a third of the respect that Gwen gets from the older writers. She even gets mini's like Spider-Man: Blue (which i liked) but Ben (a character who's much more fleshed out) and Baby May (a STRONG female character who we're more attached to because of 100+ issues of her own title) get gypped in the 616.

*whew*

in conclusion, i don't really mind Gwen. But I find that the fans who REALLY love her often come from a different school of thought than i do that frowns upon the introduction of major new events in Spider-Man continuity. I find that most of these fans pretty much hate everything after Harry Osborn's death which includes my beloved Clone Saga. :csad: It's a generalization but there are some elements of truth in it.

Btw, Doc, are you still mugenizing Ock? I've seen sprites around. I've pretty much have handed over the reigns to my Scarlet Spider character to pychewing from scruffydragon.com. He's a way better artist than I am and he has more free time.

Well the video's done, but its taking forever to upload. How long does it usually take for these damn things to get uploaded, cuz it seems like its been 15 minutes.

Oh well, as long as I can get it up you guys will see my Revelations video soon.

Meh. It wasn't really the fans fault or anything. The fans were just expressing how they felt at the time, which there is no harm in doing. Honestly, it was the head honchos at Marvel during that time who didn't have the guts to just go through with their plans. They changed them and we got what we got.

But Marvel could easily have someone whip up a Scarlet Spider miniseries, or an Untold Tales of Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider. There are a ton of stories still to tell within that time period.

I think what truly jabs into my heart of hearts is that the Clone Saga is just like a joke. I don't think I've ever truly seen it referenced seriously in a Marvel comic except in that issue of Civil War where Peter looked like he wanted to kill Reed Richards when he found out about the Thor clone and in the Marvel Knights Spider-Man run when Peter talks about all the people who have died in his life and Ben Reilly was one of them. What is it with Mark Millar? He must have dug the Clone Saga too. heh. But, yeah, it would be nice if someone at Marvel did a revisit to the Clone Saga and sort of tired everything up nice and neat for newer fans...let them decide if Ben Reilly should still be around.

Because if those fans who threw their fists up in anger knew the state of the Spider-Man comics now...HA! They'd be BEGGING for Ben Reilly to be the one true Spider-Man. And that's the fact.....:oldrazz:

This is all true, an' Tom DeFalco is the only one who takes it seriously over in the pages of Spider-Girl. Plus, Sacassa in that final issue of Sensational. Would it kill them to do a mini or take advantage of all those alternate universes they handbooked about?

I think that the thing that hurts the most is that the clone saga is treated like a joke... Ben Reilly, the guy who was at times an even better Peter Parker than Peter himself is treated liek crap, while we've got even lamer crap going around... *cough*Jackpot*cough*Goblin Babies*Cough*Stingers*Cough*

A stinger free/masked/non-totemistic Spidey... *Rips off shirt and screams to the heavens* BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!! COOOOOOOOMMMMMMEEEEEEE BAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!

I know...it's just that sometimes when i think about how much the Clone Saga is ignored I want to lash out at other fans (who hated it and probably never read it) even if it isn't their fault.

I agree completely. There's technically 5 years of Ben Reilly stories that could be explored. In Spider-Man comics, those 5 years have been more than 20 real years of stories. So can't we have a mini? Or a tale within Spider-Man Family? Or SOMETHING????

Yeah, my favorite moment of Civil War was when Peter reacted to the Thor clone. Of course, it all went to **** from there...And I loved Millar's MKSM run because of all those Ben Reilly references and hints that Reilly may have been the Aunt May kidnapper. Even though he wasn't, it was great to see him recognized (I've heard that Millar is a continuity buff).

I feel like Marvel knows that Ben Reilly will sell but they're keeping him in their back pocket JUST IN CASE they run out of their own ****ty stories and need to boost sales in some sort of event. So I really feel like it's a matter of JQ running out of bad event ideas, which makes me very sad :csad::csad::csad: and gives me little hope for the future.

Even if JQ gets replaced, he might be replaced by someone a little less sympathetic towards the Clone Saga...maaaaan....i don't wanna wait 10 years for a Ben return. I'm tempted to drop Spidey comics until I get word of a Ben Reilly return or an event that could likely bring him back. But at the same time, I wanna be there for when the surprise happens cause I feel like it's a secret they wanna surprise people with and not something they'd advertise.

BTW, nice video JJ's Ulcer, I already commented on your youtube but thought i'd mention that it's cool that you spent the time to make a Revelations vid.

Picked up the REVENGE OF THE GREEN GOBLIN trade last week finally, and was pleased to see Ben visually featured in Spider-Man's thoughts, in one of the chapters.
