Did they make fun of the Clone Saga while they were in the middle of it/ a year after?

I don't think "101 Ways" counted because it was the actual architects of the Clone Saga poking fun at themselves (that's the right spirit!). Plus it was a fun insight into the would've-beens of the storyline (funny that as outlandish the ideas they thought of, they absolutely ruled out bringing in Mephisto!!!).

Did spot a joke/ref not too far removed from the Clone Age - in the issue of Deadpool where they ape an old Amazing Spidey (Deadpool goes back in time and has to pose as Peter Parker). There's a clone sage reference in there along the lines of "unless I have a clone, but that would be crazy, right?"

Even that joke, I can laugh at, because of the context. But all these cheap shots writers in the past 5-7 years have taken at it, suck. It's usually either a slap at clones in Spider-man's own dialogue (shameful, since he had such a bond with Ben), or with the word "hate" in the line, or a writer/creator trying to get street cred with the press by "I promise, no clones".

Y'know what? After over 10 years of hoping Ben would return some day, today I realized that this will never happen.
I don't quite know why I gave up hope today. Maybe it's because of the Mephisto thing in Sensational #41. The continuity I loved is gone and Ben with it.
Or it's the disappointment everytime Marvel announced some Ben Reilly stories (Ultimate Clone Saga, FNSM 14, MKSM, new Scarlet Spider,...).
Or it's the ongoing clone jokes.

I don't know, but today I feel like Peter in ASM 50. Spider-Man no more.

True, they were poking fun at the crap that Marvel had to deal with but there was one cheap shot at ben.... it was hidden in the book wanna hint?
How about the crazy idea of 101 uses for a dead clone that they pitched within 101 ways to end the clone saga... Using Ben's corpse to bring flies then swat them with him... That's the hint... But that's tame compared with the recent attacks...

We may never see Ben Reilly again but Dan Slott did a very nice ode to the Scarlet Spider in The Initiative. The three Scarlet Spiders in the series happen to be...well, clones. Nice little nod to the past and combining it with a newer idea.

I think that's about as close as we're going to get right now. Kudos to Dan Slott, as always.

Thanks! I'd never checked out the first page in the thread, so I didn't know there was a list there.

Also, is anyone selling any of their clone saga books? I went to my local comic shop and he only found three from the first 40ish books that began the clone saga

With Harry back I think it's a pretty good indication that Ben Reilly is back. Because what reason did Norman Osborn have to extract vengeance now?

But I doubt it because Quesada is being such a poo face about this.

Just think of all the other tiny implications it leaves on the Spider-Man mythos. Whew. It'll give you an instant headache...

at least ben being real peter didnt actually delete 20 years of stories, they still happened to clone peter, seriously i think if they had just said ben was the clone and made him new spiderman and did something that made pete HAVE to retire (like blow his mofo leg off mc2 style) pete and mj could have been good supporting cast, it would have been a great progression for 616, I now consider mc2 the proper marvel universe

they should have gotten brubaker to write this story hell if he can bring back bucky, make him a bad ass too, kill cap, and make bucky the new cap and have it feel like its not a big earth shatering event for cap. he could have broke up peter and mj no problem and people would have loved it like that vetinamies hooker form full medal jacket thats right "long time".

According to this, and from an official source who has said Marvel editorial has completely abolished Baby May from EVER happening, it looks like the Clone Saga has been entirely retconned save for the early ASM issues. Which means there will NEVER be a Ben Reilly again in 616. Or, 617 as I now call this POS universe.

they have also said all events happened the same but without mj and pete being married.....so the clone saga would have .....actually I can't make sense of this stupid retcon it is stupid as hell I really don't know what else to say

Yeah, but Tom Brevoort has said that there NEVER was a baby May. She will be written out of all future handbooks.

If there was no Baby May, then Ben and Pete wouldnt have gotten ambushed on the way to the hospital.

Ben is still alive.

And Ben Reilly would never ever make a deal with the devil. He is a true hero.

I like the Planet of the Symbiote stoyline a lot.

only thing i don't really like, is that cover, they made Scarlet, um, area, a bit too developed.
