Were people seriously doubting the Spider-Ben costume appearing in this mini?

Yeah, I was concerned they might omit it, based on the covers. It was a reasonable assumption.

A couple of teaser images of my "Scarlet Spider" costume I'm doing for my work's New Years Fancy Dress Bash...

Well people, it seems like Ben Reilly is on his way back! Here is the preview for Web of Spider-Man 6 with a new Ben Reilly story by J.M. Dematteis.

WEB OF SPIDER-MAN #6
Written by FRED VAN LENTE, Tom DeFalco & J.M. DEMATTEIS
Penciled by BARRY KITSON, Ronald Frenz & Chad hardin
Cover by JELENA DJURDEVIC
Look! Up in the Sky! It’s a bird…it’s eating brains…it’s THE VULTURE! While a brand new Vulture terrorizes Spider-Man and New York City in the pages of Amazing, the original Vulture, Adrian Toomes, reflects on his past as Fred Van Lente and Barry Kitson bring you the Vulture’s origins. Then, BEN REILLY! You asked for him, and J.M. DeMatteis and Chad Hardin got ‘im. During his years on the road, Ben finds himself in Oregon…and up against a desperate man. Finally, in THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-GIRL, a gang war heats up…and May doesn’t know who she can trust when the BLACK TARANTULA strikes!

I'm pretty excited as well. It seems like its going to be a Lost Years type thing. According to Life of Reilly, there were plans to make Lost Years an ongoing series if Ben was going to remain as Spider-Man, but the plans never really got off the ground. I think JM Dematteis may have been the guy trying get this idea going, so maybe these are old stories he had planned, or something totally new. Hopefully it will become regular in Web of Spider-Man.

Now that would be something if they filled a regular spot in Web with a Ben Reilly story.

Let's recap this awesome year of Ben Reilly...

It started with X-Men/Spider-Man #3 which had Spider-Ben and the X-Men go up against Carnage and Mr Sinister in Ravencroft.

We then got the Amazing Spider-Man annual #36 which had Peter tangle with a foe from Ben's past named Raptor. This continued in Amazing Spider-Man #608-610, that showed the looooooong-awaited return of Kaine and flashbacks of Ben fighting Raptor (also in Oregon).

Meanwhile, Kaine also appeared in 'Web of Spider-Man #1'. And the clone saga is currently getting revamped and rebooted in the six issue mini-series 'Spider-Man: Clone Saga'. Plus there were those pics of Spider-Ben and Kaine appearing unconscious in an upcoming gauntlet issue.

Now, we get word that we will get another awesome flashback story by the man JM in 'Web of Spider-Man #6'.

All in all.... a damn good year to be a Reilly fan!:woot:

what did people think of clone saga 4???? i thought the guy at the end of 3 was osborne but clearly not - harry maybe? that dosnt make sense either though hmmmmmn

I think Norman just cloned himself to have a perfect body. Anyone know why Norman's Glider impaled chest scar is never drawn on him anymore in recent appearances?

Because a lot of artists forget about it...

You know as much as I like the spider-ben costume, I was really hoping reilly would wear the Scarlet Spider suit for at least another year. Especially if marvel decides to turn this into an ongoing run. Maybe we'll get lucky and Reilly will swap costumes from storyline to storyline, that way there's a little something for all the fans.

SPOILERS!

The mastermind of the Clone Saga mini is Harry Osborn. We can know this because of the "Gotcha!" at the end of issue 3. For some reason, Harry always said Gotcha whenever he hatched an evil plan against Spider-Man. The most prominent appearance is at the end "Pursuit" in Amazing Spider-Man issue #389 when Peter discovers that his robo-parents were a posthumous plot set in motion by Harry.

This past issue was a little better, I guess because it is moving into different territory. I like the art, but overall, the mini is a bit disappointing.

And I agree it looks like Harry is the big bad guy.

We'll see if it's Harry, he looks a little too... big to be Harry. Plus, having Harry be responsible for the robo=parents and THEN the Clone Saga? This was supposed to be the original, better thought out plan? Highly doubt that. This is just a re-imagining... and not exactly for the better.

Actually, I don't think Harry or Norman was in their original plan. When the fan outcry was great and they wanted to revert Pete to the original, they try to think of a number of ways of doing it (including Mephisto! can you imagine such a horrible idea?). It was then that they thought of bringing Norman back. So, I have to agree that this mini seems more like a streamlined reimagining than the original plan.

Actually, Gaunt was supposed to be the MAIN mastermind of the 90's Clone Saga, and it was supposed to be Harry.

Is that true? I thought I remember Gaunt only coming in the picture when they started to try and undo the Clone Saga.

Yeah the original plan was for Harry to be Gaunt, and then they decided it was a bad idea and scrapped it, adding another layer to the mystery and it became Norman who was the mastermind.

I always thought Doc Ock would have been the best "mastermind" behind the clone saga, and this was before the Ultimate version mind you. I can't remember who it was, it might have been Kaine, but a few years ago, someone posted their alternate version of the Clone saga, kind of a "what if." In that, he streamlined the whole thing, and ended it with revealing Doc Ock to be the main villain. It was pretty good.

That costume would actually be bad ass if you gave it gloves, booties and covered up the eyes.
